Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

Soo, no blur when upscaled? Haven't been keeping up 100% with this thread and that issue specifically.

Once I get my DSLR back tonight and get home, tons of high res pics. But it did look a little 'different'.

OMG... Why does the last month have to take so damn long! I mean its only 26 days, but it feels like we still have 6 months left to goooo... :(

From what I can tell it's running in DSi mode, it's using my WPA signal on the C-Gear and the WFC settings says to edit the settings in the Settings Menu on the System, it doesn't come up with the typical WFC settings you get in a DS game.
You mean I can finally play a DS game online again? OMG. I have to tether to my phone just to play. Too bad it's only for Pokemon BW.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Truth101 said:
No it runs in DSi mode, I even remember something from Nintendo saying that if you played Pokemon black/white on your 3DS it would still retain all its DSi functions.

Though it is completely possible I'm imagining that that was actually said. But even then I would go out on a limb and say it retains full DSi functions.

I would hope so since the big DSi function is WPA/WPA2 support, and I plan on playing most of my games on my 3DS even though I'll still have my DSi until the Transfers open up in may.

REALLY starting to enjoy SSFIV now. :)

Never really played the console versions much beyond social events and parties.

Love the fact that I can have a full-featured SF4 that looks great on the go.

It's a really great port.

Do the static backgrounds not really bother you much? I'm really hoping it doesn't bother me, but from what I've read not too many ppl have commented on the backgrounds.

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it

I just have two words to say.

Purple. Shadows.

It's not even a big deal. Like I said before, I liken it to playing with figures in a diorama. This is even more expounded when you play 3D Mode.

When you compare it to a diorama, that just seems awesome. Can't wait. Wonder how RPG overworlds will look.

I managed to notice it just once in one particular stage, and initially it's a bit of a disappointing surprise, but then when you realize it's almost never noticeable (which is why Capcom probably decided to it), you quickly move on.

Cool, cool I guess it just stood out to me on videos, but I'm sure when I actually get to play it I wont be focusing on them at all.

They bother me quite a bit but it's not too bad.

It's mostly on levels like the boat one, where the boat no longer rocks when you throw someone to the ground. I loved the small details like that.

Also they did a shitty job actually picking some of the backgrounds imo. If you are going to make it static then why not pick the one point in the SOLAR ECLIPSE level where there is actually a SOLAR ECLIPSE happening!?

So we can now simply scan the barcode with the 3DS camera, and not have to input the long friend codes?

There are, of course, Americans who import Japanese games and Japanese gamers who import Western titles, but those audiences have to be relatively niche by comparison due to the language barrier alone; I don't buy that imports of the JP version of a text-heavy game like Pokemon B&W would ever pose any significant threat to sales of the localized version. And of course, there are only a handful of PAL-exclusive English releases that any American would ever want to import.

Lots of people do import DS games from Japan though.

I could have easily have thrown the roms on an R4 cart instead of importing, but I'd prefer to import and support the developers. Now I won't have that choice, my only choice besides importing a $400 console would be to use roms.

Now that's awesome news. I think SF4 is the one I'm looking forward to. Although I do get Pokemon coming in 6 days ... SIX DAYS!

That makes the 30 or so days for the 3DS almost seem like forever. Luckily I just bought a bunch of toys to distract me.

I just got a pretty sweet idea. Here's Bayonetta's chapter select screen.

Now imagine the map and/or doll comes bundled with the game.

Or as another possibility,

*head explodes* A grid based strategy RPG would be awesome on the 3DS.

No, scanning QR codes simply adds custom Miis to the Mii Studio, not the Mii Plaza or friend list.

Do you get the other person's Mii into your plaza by exchanging friend codes?

No, exchanging friend codes adds a person's Mii and profile to the friend list, not the Mii Studio or Mii Plaza.

Ah ok. If I recall correctly, the Wii has a "send Mii to..." option that you use to send Miis to registered friends. Does the 3DS have something like that available instead of scanning each other's QR codes?

As stated in the FAQ in the OP, there is currently no private messaging in the friend list. The best you can do is export QR codes. Miis for your friends appear in the friend list, but do not automatically show up in the Mii Studio or Mii Plaza.

Oh right, they were send via messages. :(
Hopefully Nintendo could put some people on implementing that function in future updates.

"Lots?" Are there really that many Americans who speak (or can overlook) moon language and are willing to put up with the additional expense of importing games? Because I somehow have a feeling that those who meet both those criteria are a tiny niche that just happens to be disproportionately represented on gaming nerd forums like this one.

I suppose GameStop et al. could argue that importation of unlocalized games like, say, Ouendan 2 and Jump Ultimate Stars are somehow harming sales of games that actually do get localized for the US eventually, but that seems pretty tenuous to me. Absent any data to the contrary, I strongly suspect that the PAL territories are the only countries where imports would actually be harming home-region software sales to any statistically significant degree.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

Lack of Pilotwings in Japan is the only thing that makes me not all that jealous. When are you guys getting that anyway, is there even a date?

I haven't been able to find a date, but it was on the shelf at the store I bought my games from with a tag saying "COMING SOON!" or something

I know Steel Diver is coming 3/17 so maybe around then?

GOD I CAN'T WAIT FOR STEEL DIVER!!!!!!!!!
