If the Racing Course list on the Ridge Racer 3DS Website is anything to go by, there are only 15 different courses, and it's done very much with a Ridge Racers 2-like sequel in mind where there's room for them to add all the ones they missed out...
I counted 16 in the actual game, but not in front of the machine right now. And there may be hidden tracks later, though I wouldn't count on it considering Seaside Route 765 is open at the start.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
It's really tiny when not extended. Useless even. But yeah it feels metal but it's ok to hold.

I don't think it's going to get loose anytime soon in the hole either.

But why?
And what are considered "normal headphones"?

It's likely a cost-saving measure, as I'm sure market research indicated that the proportion of users plugging in headphones with the standard audio jack vastly outnumbered those using the special headset accessory. Why shell out for a fancy input if nobody uses it?

So how does the Stylus feel?

I hate having metal stuff on my hands..

It feels kind of like a hard plastic. It's not quite as comfortable as the softer plastic stylus found in the old DS.

According to those who have the latest Nintendo Power, it says the game has 30 tracks, 6 being new.

I take it sharing a 3DS will be a pain in the arse considering it's one friend code per system? I might have to get my other half her own one since it's her birthday 3 days after launch.

Oh man, Namco totally trolled Iwata with 150 courses*!(

(reverse, daytime/nighttime, mirror, upside down with a cherry on top, finish line moved up 1 inch)

Still awesome to see that Ridge Racer 3D is quite a good game. I've got it pre-ordered along with Pilotwings. Let's hope NST didn't fuck it up.

Sucks, but I'll deal with it.

Thiner than DS (if only slightly). Can't say I'm too bothered as it means more games can fit on a shelf. Well until NOE show thier cases being wider despite not doing the fat manuals anymore.

Not sure how I feel about the game boot icon on the side. Looks tackey and reduces space for the game name leading to crowded feeling. Also not conistent at all. Ridge Racer is the logo and Street Fighter isn't...ugh, I thought we were beyond these days.

Im glad they changed the cases. Having such a small cart housed in such heavy plastic that at times was surprising hard to open that i will touch less than 10 times in its lifetime was such a waste.

Been having the 3DS off the charger for 24 hours now primarily in standby mode and wireless on, walking around at work and the house, with about 20 minutes of SSFIV with the 3D slider on/wifi on/1 brightness in between. It just hit 3 bars on the battery indicator, so people who plan on being away from their chargers for a long time and having light play here and there during their commute shouldn't have to worry too much about the battery getting gassed in one day.

Wait wait wait. Back up. When you say NST are you talking about Nintendo Software Technology in Washington? And if so, are you saying they developed Pilotwings or Ridge Racer?

They did Pilotwings.

I wonder what eShop stuff they have cooking or whether they are on the team responsible for 3Difying GB games.

That's great (EDIT: I see potential in them).

BTW, who did Ridge Racer 3D? I know NST did Ridge Racer DS, which was why I asked to begin with.

EDIT: I went to Wikipedia and it said that EAD is doing Pilotwings. I'm not saying I don't believe you guys but is there a source???

Basically what i understood from your previous post is that the 3DS does not support classic earphones like the iPod ones. (3.5mm)

Luckily that's not the case.

I don't really care about this fancy input:

Ps. REALLY? NST ON PILOTWINGS? SAUCE NAO.

I'm guessing you don't like NST? To be completely honest I'm not the biggest fan either, but I've been rooting for them because I feel that they have the potential to be something big someday. The thought of an American EAD studio makes me happy. :)

I hope you're joking, he never said anything like that.

Sakagami: The game may be for a handheld system, but we increased the volume. For example, there are quite a few more courses. We made several new courses and there's quite a rich selection of cars. There's also a Grand Prix Mode with various race locations. More than 150!

Iwata: Did you say 150?!

Sakagami: I did! So there's plenty of racing to be done!

"Race location" =/= course. It's a poor translation, he meant 150 events.

Excellent! Looks like Streetpass hardly drains any battery power at all.

Huh, NST made PilotWings?

Oh and NST are said to be working on Pilotwings Resort for the 3DS. They had nothing to do with Pilotwings SNES or Pilotwings 64 (Hell they didn't even exist back when they were made!)

About all the Ridge Racer talk, is it a joke that some of the content is from an iOS version?
I'd buy it only if the game is 100% new.

That is interesting but under author is simply states "Nintendo" while with a game like Mario vs. Donkey Kong it says "Nintendo Software Tech."

Nintendo seems to be too secretive with this stuff. You'd think that they would provide this kind of information to the press before the game is released like most game developers do. Instead, we get most of the developer information by beating the game and seeing the credits.

To be honest I'm shocked that Nintendo's even allowing Retro to have their own GDC session on thursday. We practically never hear from them. :/

I've seen some PAL 3DS games in shops and they were still using the fatty cases from before, just display cases though so I'm still hopeful for something thinner. Although they did have what looked like the finished cover art with front back and spine so the hope is fading fast.

Kind-of a moot point since I already preordered it, but it'd be nice to get a review of Ridge Racer 3DS from someone who *isn't* one of the hugest Ridge Racer fans around :)

It actually says 30 tracks with 15 of them being "reverse" versions, so 15 tracks total.

The fishing AR game looks very good.

By the way, I was reading about the Coins you get by walking... I hope developers are allowed to let you gain Coins by doing certain things in the games, kinda like an achievement system.

You can only get them by walking and you can get 20 coins a day I think?

Nintendo seem to crappy with dummy boxes before release as in retailer makes thier own. All the kirby ones I saw were black DVD cases and usually the US boxart with a wrong aspect ratio PEGI 3+ pasted over the ESRB rating.

As for the 3DS cases. The ones I saw in gamesation were probably retail mock ups (forgot to look at back). The spines were like standard DS only with the triangles missing, the game icon was missing too. From the Super Street Fighter 4 boxart NOE showed on Facebook (with the 3D effect so visible spine) the triangle is the wrong way round, there is naff game icon (oddly enough it was M.Bison's face which is different to what we see above) and the game logo instead of spine text.

In short, let's wait 3 weeks. Unless the ones you saw had proper spines like I described.

An achievement system that actually rewards the player with something other than points would be amazing. It would be even better to be able to use the coins you've earned in one game in another game. For example: earn coins in Mario Kart and use those coins to unlock a trophy or CD in Super Smash Bros.

For those of you wh own the 3DS, how do the L&R buttons feel? Do they feel like they are cheap out and die suddenly? I had this problem with both the DS Lite and the DSi. I hope they got their act together on that front.

Couldn't you just change the system's clock so that it thinks it's the next day? That was an easy way to bypass Animal Crossing's "3 passwords a day" limit.

I still haven't been able to figure out whether or not Ridge Racer 3D is 60 fps. Anyone know?

i think it is generally 60fps, but it's not solid - the framerate sometimes drops when you use nitro.

oh and it's nothing like the iOS version, thankfully, which is something that i feared from the first screenshots. it turned out to be basically just RR7 in lo-res, which i'm cool with. if you want a "100% new" ridge racer game, though, you're out of luck - just like you would have been with every single previous handheld version and the last few on console. classic tracks and cars are kind of important to the series.

I can tell you that those are GS-made mockups for our existing DS cases. I don't believe new dummy cases have been sent to stores yet.

Ridge Racer 3D is 30 FPS in both 3D and 2D modes.

The only 3D-engine 3DS launch game I've played that retains 60 fps in 3D mode is Super Monkey Ball...though Monkey Kart is definitely 30 FPS right from the start.
