Nintendo : buy Mario Kart 8 on the eShop or retail, get a free game

Nah, people who registered their Club Nintendo code yesterday are getting their game today without issues.

I registered it today (after 10am) and still got it without issues, retail version, though.

Edit: But I guess a lot of people are trying now, so it might take longer for the free games to show up.

Hm, wonder if I have to register that PIN from the eShop regardless of the automatic registration and survey anyway. I'll try when I get home if it hasn't shown up by then.

why dont people ya know.. play mario kart while they wait lol

BECAUSE I'M AT WORK GAWDAMMIT. My housemate leaves at 12 so I was hoping to text her the code to punch into the system so it's all downloaded.

Hmm not sure which game to get.

or the one I'm most interested in MH3U, looks like it would be something in the vein of a 'souls' game.

The main gameplay could be compared to a Souls game IMO. The hub-world, setting, aesthetics and atmosphere cannot. I love both series, probably partially for the same reason, but bear in mind they are very different experiences.

You also want to play mostly online for the best monhun times I feel

Nintendo Scandinavia has it such that you register, but you'll get to download the game first at the end of August "when all the codes have been checked"

So, haha, no three months.

Yeah, I'm still pondering if I should just use a dummy UK Nintendo Club account for this. Would love to get the free game for the summer.

In the UK? It seems like every country has it's own policy right now.

UK. I bought the game at midnight on the eShop. Only answered the survey after 10:00PM. Tried using the PIN, but it was not valid, as the game had already been registered automatically.

Ah, cheers. Just need to play the waiting game then.

NOE site is slow but my last registered game is showing up as Mario Kart 8 now with the survey link. But since the site is slow I'll leave it for a bit (I'm not planning on getting the free game for a while anyway; my priorities are W101, Pikmin, Zelda).

Weirdly enough I've not yet got the stars for registering the Wii U (supposed to happen when Club Nintendo link is made which given the Wii U purchases are showing up implies it has occurred) and Super Mario Kart has no survey (but maybe they've yet to make surveys for Wii U VC games...)

How is Game and Wario? I was pretty set on NSMBU for a while, but I just finished the Wii game and don't feel like playing any more NSMB for a while. I thought it might be cool to have a party game always available on the Wii U without needing a disc. Anyone else chose it as their free game?

This might sound dumb, but one of my friends is 14 and wants to know if he can download Monster Hunter as his free game, despite his age. Is that possible?

Sweet, was worried I screwed myself out of the free game since I registered at 1 this morning, haha. Pikmin 3 is silently downloading on the Wii U right now.

Very nice promotion! I wonder if they'll do anything like it again in the near future? I can't quite see it for Smash, though I imagine they'll do the "download Smash Bros. and get £5 off the Wii U version" deal.

I've heard that it isn't good, it isn't like the other games.. It just isn't as weird and the there are only twelve mini games , and apparently only 2 are good according to some.

I didn't like NSMBU either though.. Have you played TW101, Pikmin and Zelda? If you haven't choose those, TW101 is incredible .

Been trying to decide between W101 and Pikmin 3 all week. Played the W101 demo and greatly enjoyed the combat and style (surprisingly, as most people seem to have a negative experience with the demo). Never played any of the Pikmin games, but it has always appealed to me and the recent update to enable stylus controls makes it a much more viable option seeing as I don't have a wiimote.

How is the multiplayer in Pikmin? That may tip the scales, as I appreciate any good local multiplayer that I can play with the girlfriend.

Me and my first world problems.

Both are, pun aside wonderful. I tried the multiplayer but I didn't really like it much, others may have enjoyed it more though.

TW101 also has MP but I haven't tried it. You can't go wrong with either of the games though, they're both great.
Edit: some serious auto correct fails which made my post contradictory have been removed!

Pheewwww. Registered my game about 24 hours ago but I'm still getting the banner for the offer. I was super worried there for a while :|

I don't have any of these games except NSMBU. I'm only interested in playing Wind Waker, but I'd rather have a physical copy... I think I'll wait to claim the game to see what happens to the price of Wind Waker physical copies.

I said it above, but there's 3 games in there which stand out quality wise, Pikmin, Zelda and TW101.
If you find a physical copy cheap then go for one of the other 2, the other games are... Well, not particularly good from what I've heard.

I have to say registering your pin# is such a pain. Numbers that look like letters and vice versa. It took me 4 attempts until it would accept the right combination.

Monster Hunter 3 as well if you're in Europe.

Still not got my banner. Think this is pennance for getting my Watch_Dogs early. I would have gladly traded it the other way around, stupid gaming gods!

Oh, the W101 has multiplayer also? Didn't know that! Thanks. I'll read up on that now. May just go for the most expensive option if I can't decide, then buy the cheaper game, as you said.

When you buy MK8 on the eshop, how much time until you get your free game code?

How do they send the code to you? Is by email, or do you need to do something at Club Nintendo and they give you the code there?

Where do you choose your free game? At club nintendo or at the eshop?

All through Club Nintendo. Everyone seems to either get it instantly (log out and log back in after registration) or wait (chumps like me).

I really enjoyed playing G&W but I wouldn't recommend it over NSMBU.

I registered my club Nintendo account right after buying the game in the eshop. So I guess I'm screwed then?

Nah, login and see if you can see the banner now (or after 10am your time if it hasn't hit yet). People who registered yesterday seem to be fine.

i just signed in on club nintendo after downloading/playing the game, it immediately popped up saying choose your free game! success!

(i live in Canada if anyone was wondering)

Oh so people who bought the game online before registering for a club Nintendo account were still able to get the download code? Because it says you have to have an account first on their site?

Got banner as soon as I entered the code from the eShop receipt from UK store, downloading Zelda as I type this.

I tried the code from the (us) eshop receipt and it says its invalid.

So, time for the decision of what game to go for.

For me, I own several already; the list is down to simply four: Sonic: Lost World, Sonic & Mario at the Winter Olympics, Game & Wario, Wind Waker HD.

Wind Waker's by far the obvious choice... except I already own it on the Gamecube, and don't have an overwhelming desire to own it again. Game & Wario might be a bigger draw, I'm okay with party gaming - but I already have Wii Party U, and I think that might be a better party package. Then there's the two Sonics. Lost World has iffy reviews, to say the least. I've not touched the Olympics games in the past, but there's no inherent reason I'd be averse to them.

Thoughts?

I believe stated somewhere, it's never a "o" always a "0" and I want to say they don't use 1s?

But yes its a pain in the arse

I've emailed Nintendo Support, purely because they took 10 days to get back to me last time, so in case of a problem, I may as well get the ball rolling before they get inundated.

If you don't have a burning need for any of the games, I'd say sell the code and buy something else with the money.

Also, can anyone confirm whether the free game counts for Nintendo Network Premium points (i.e. the UK version of Digital Deluxe Promotion)?

I didn't know that. They could print that information somewhere.

Our FAQ doesn't mention it like the US one does, but we won't know until the first games have been registered for 24 hours since that's when they show up on the list.
