Nintendo Characters in NBA Street V.3

Judging from the looks of that "All-Stars" logo in the upper left corner, they might be doing this with multiple sports games.

True. I personally dont mind this, I mean... you dont have to play as them. They are just there if youd like to

I wonder if this'll cause sales to increase for game on the system. Not sure if EA really likes being in bed so much with Nintendo when their games don't do so well on the GC.

Makes sense putting them in NBA Street though. The games were already a bit cartoony.

So, because Mario and friends make an appearance in NBA Street, it's considered gay.

Yet, when the Ape Escape monkeys are put into Metal Gear Solid 3, it's a nice/cool addition.

Monkeys live in the jungle.

Fat plumbers in red suits do not play street basketball.

This is gay, someone get an interview asap and see who is the idiot who made this decision.
Huh? There is nothing bad about this, they are EXTRAS, just don't play as them and ignore them if you don't like it.

That would be cool...

monkeys that wear shorts and wierdass metal helmets?

these are the same morons that said having Link in Soul Calibur was some kind of cheap sellout move, yet had no problems with Snake being a hidden skateboarder in that piece of shit Konami skateboarding game "oh its just a cool little bonus feature..." **cough**solidsnakex**cough**

what makes the game any better cause nintendo characters are in it? its the same game if u replaced mario with some nba guy.... Now all you people want it?

Yeah, but at the same time, there's no point in including NBA stars either. From a functional standpoint, you could replace every character in every game with virtually indistinguishable grey polygon models, and it would play the same.

Clearly humans develop an affintity for fictional and non-fictional characters alike across various entertainment mediums (books, TV, games, etc.). So the idea that the inclusion of such a character could raise ineterst in a release doesn't seem sad or surprising to me.

Heh, yeah, I forgot about that "bonus feature"...

Damn, if the game has the Globetrotters in it, it'll be a classic.

Globetrotters vs. Mario All-Stars!! GOTY!!

:lol This thread is hillarious!

Seriously, I don't see how this is a bad thing, really. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

I'd buy it over the Xbox and PS2 versions just for the extra content (characters), though if it sells you'll see them in everything EA. If the game is online though that could sway me back to the Xbox version.

For what ever reason Nintendo and EA seem to keep a solid relationship.
What if, and this is quite hypothetical, EA and Nintendo formed some kind of merger? My mind couldn't even begin to process such a concept.

Nintendo-EA merger/console would be craziness.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't happen simply because a lot of EA's licenses (I would assume), like the movie deals and the NFL exclusivity are signed under the gauruntee that EA provide those titles on every possible platform.

I don't know for sure if that's the case though.

Man, some of you guys are really reaching here.

This is a great thing - exclusive content in a Nintendo sports title that's near-guaranteed to increase interest and sales on the Gamecube. I'm the first person in line to slag EA for their assorted crimes against humanity, but following in Namco's footsteps isn't one of them. Hell, non-GCN owners shouldn't give a shit either way - it's not like the plumber is infecting YOUR precious console of choice.

As for me? It's not enough to make me go buy another Gamecube, but it's a cool addition for Nintendo fans. Good enough for me.

Weirdest news day ever.

This actually reminds me of something I proposed 7 or so years ago, when my weird ideas were even less likely (or so I thought) and I wasn't afraid to share them all. I basically said that Nintendo should give third parties some sort of licensing fee cut if they'd add in Nintendo characters for cross-promotional purposes, and NBA Hangtime was a recent game where it could've worked. Huh.

Just as an NBA fan would be more interested "NBA Street" than "Basketball Street", a Mario fan would be more interested in "NBA Street with Mario" than "NBA Street".

Not really absurd. They'd compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses quite well.

edit: A Nintendo/EA merger that is.

I'm never going to buy this game but just to see Mario play Basketball with a bunch of other sports stars is enough for me to rent it. Barely enough but they accomplished their goal, it's just too funny to miss.

If you're going to put Mario and co in a basketball game then actually build it from the ground up, don't just throw them in an existing game just for a few quick sales.

I don't think we're far away from Nintendo creating a Mario sports series. Wouldn't actually be a bad idea, I know a lot of people on here would love a Mario Football/Hockey and I'd love to see a fun take on soccer. If they play well and offer a fun alternative to realistic sports games then just go for it.

If EA ever merges with one of the major game companies(Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft), it's GAME OVER for all competition.

I agree 111000000000%. They'd be an unstoppable third party force, controlling the East and the West. Hell, the only market they'd be not dominating is the Eastern PC market, and EA still holds a good share there, mostly thanks to the Sims. All the 1st parties would cater to them. It'd be killer...

I dunno ... if Nintendo partnered with EA and they agreed to say split money from 3rd party licensing fees/accessorie sales/any hardware profit etc. down the line at 50-50, would they make more money going that route?

And would all EA fans automatically buy a Nintendo-EA console?

I would say its probably a "yes" on both those answers, but its still a bit risky, and neither Nintendo or EA are known to take such risks.

Would make the next generation a hell of a lot more interesting though.

OK, if you're talking about one-console exclusive, it'd practically kill off EA. You can forget about that. Especially when their income points are so split up among consoles, investments and such.
