Nintendo Characters in NBA Street V.3

How can hypocrisy be this rampant.

The same day -repeat- the same day that you people find out about EA exclusively buying the NFL rights and come on here to post all this talk of "unfair competition" and "boycotts" and "evil corporations" and crap is the same day people are announcing they're going to support this so called "evil corporation", in some instances for the first time this generation or longer, because of some goddamned roster additions.

It's not gonna make me buy the game, but I support it... why would I have a problem with it? Why this never happened sooner I don't know. It's a nice unlockable, particularly for fans of Mario.

Partnerships on this kind of console specific added value would make even more sense on SEGA games.

"you people"

Can you please SPECIFICALLY list the people who both posted about unfair competition, boycotting, and EA being an evil corporation AND who posted positively in regards to buying this game?

If you aren't able to find anyone by the next time I read this thread, you will be banned.

Killah app!!!11 Ok, that's just sad...it's teh big collaboration to save the Cube.

How is it sad? People are all kinds or retarded in this thread. It's called catering to a specific market. It increases the appeal of the product. It is smart business sense. One has to wonder why more people are not doing it.

I don't buy sports games but now, guess what? I will probably buy this one.

how hilarious. i see some previous EA Haters praising EA in this thread. I wonder why? :lol

me personally, i'm sick to death of mario and friends.

This is cool. Now the pain and embarassment will be x10 after getting dunked on by Luigi or Mario or ...Princess Peach? :lol This is gonna be mad fun. Can't wait.

Awesome, I'll be getting the GC Version for my bro, and the PS2 one for myself. :p

Does Yoshi do the little flutter thing in the air? :lol

This news is both unbelievable and utterly horrible.

Nintendo characters exist in a pure, beautiful, perfectionist universe of their own. Associating them with a bunch of generic characters in a kinda real-world inspired game just breaks the magic. It's almost like seeing the Ron Jeremy lookalike in Super Mario Show and realistic settings. It took thirteen years for me to recover and look at what they did now! You better not do it in 2017 again, Nintendo!!!

:lol :lol :lol Ain't that a little bit extreme?

Anyhu- I think NBA STREET gameplay could merge well with Nintendo characters. Coold turn out cool. Hope they have some of their power ups tough and not just changed skins. Themed Levels cold be cool too.

hey roger rabbit rocked.

Wow, this is some unexpected news.

So where's Mario Volleyball and Mario Football?

Mario in next year's Madden possibly??

But I don't see how this is a bad thing. EA wins because this will garner more sales, Nintendo wins since EA will have a reason to support them with sports games, and gamers win since they get something new.

I'll be the first to say I hate EA, but this is also a move that would make me far more likely to buy one of their games.

I don't think we'll ever see Mario and company in Madden (or any other EA Sports title) but any of the EA Big releases are fair game.

The only other Mario Sports game I'd like to see would be Mario Soccer from Konami.

Really...I am not expecting battles between Kobe and Mario in this thing. I am expecting there to be a special mode with 8 possible Mario characters that has been developed using the NBA Street Engine.

Rather than developing their own Basketball title, they are simply incorporating their characters into the game engines of other titles. I fully expect the "Nintendo All-Stars" to show up in the other EA Big titles, not as part of the main game but as a little added bonus using the game engine.

Generalizations don't pay, people.

Yeah that's one of my pet peevs on mesage boards. I always cringe when people on gaming boards try to point out either hypocrisy or irony.

"How come one set of people said one thing, now a completely different set of peoepl are saying somethnig else? HIPPOCRACY1!!1!"

I think Wario should have a special move where he pins down his opponent and farts in their face while his partner dunks.

Yeah they better give them special moves because if so I'm buying!
Imagine throwing a block party and challenging the dopest baller in your hood to a game of street 3.
After the complaining over the GC controller is over you can shock the world by a dropped banna peal after a dk block and a Wario tackle fart done to shaq clearing the hoop for Mario to bring it home with a double jump jam on christian laetners head into the basket!!!!

Overuse of the licenses hasn't hurt them with their fanbase yet. I see nothing wrong with this. If that's what it takes to sell games to GameCube owners then by all means do it. Every 3rd party game on the Cube should feature their mascots. I mean you have to give the audience on the GameCube what they want. And this is obviously one way to do that. Younger gamers will probably be drawn towards the game now, and that's the market they are targeting with this. Win Win for everyone.

For reference, EA big characters from SSX were in nba street one.
They are not above putting fictitious charecter's in a gamecube game. I feel it's very likely to be mario having the same moves as everyone else but just a three member team. Most likely being Mario Luigi and peach. They also had 3LW in the original street so, don't shoot down a female cast member.

Well, the game sold reasonably well on GameCube anyway (over 100k). All this does is ensure it'll outsell the Xbox version and possibly even the PS2 version (like SC2).

We just had a thread with the numbers.

PS2NBA STREET $55,791,958 1,648,001
GCNNBA STREET $6,925,662 263,732

PS2NBA STREET VOL 2 $47,990,852 1,186,266
XBXNBA STREET VOL 2 $14,940,769 404,440
GCNNBA STREET VOL 2 $7,972,605 253,264

My personal feeling is GameCube owners gravitate more towards third party software which is exclusive/premiere or has exclusive features that are highly appealling.

Putting Mario in NBA Street probably will sell more copies for EA. I still think Darth Maul in Tony Hawk is the weirdest cross-over though.

I don't know if this will cause sales to skyrocket for the GCN version though, I still think the GCN version will sell the least of the three.

One of the appeal's of SC2 w/Link is it brought back the "grown up" Link that people were itching to see in Wind Waker.

I'm kinda having the same feelings. I doubt they are gonna be put up against the real world players, but probably play in their own universe. If not it might be the worst thing since the rappin' Mario commercial.

I fear the worst but I'm morbidly curious to see it in action. Not saying I'll shell out money to do so, but I'll passer-by it.

More details from Matt:

http://cube.ign.com/mail/
Do you have any more details on NBA Street Vol. 3 with Mario characters yet?

Matt responds: A few. There have been a couple of rumors going around that as far as I've heard are false. The biggest and dumbest is that NBA Street Vol. 3 for GameCube features an additional disc with a completely original Mario All-Stars Basketball game on it. That's simply not true. Rather, the Nintendo All-Stars characters and one original court are included in the GCN build of NBA Street. You can play as Mario, Luigi and Peach (no others) and there's a Mushroom Kingdom-style basketball court with appropriate sound effects. For instance, when your Gamebreaker Meter fills up, you hear the Super Mushroom sound effect. The second rumor I've heard is that the Nintendo characters cannot interact with any real pros, and this is also false. You actually square off against real NBA athletes using Nintendo's three mascots and the experience is wholly surreal because Mario, Luigi and Peach stand about half as tall as some of these basketball giants.

If things go well with this game sales wise, we'll probably see a Mario Power Basketball game at some point in the future. They have so many characters that are just crying out to be let in the court.

I'm rather excited about the prospect actually. Giddy you could say. :D
