Nintendo Direct announced for September 12 (6AM PT, 9AM ET, 2PM UK)

So it's called the Super Mario Galaxy movie and thus some kind of Mario Galaxy game is surely happening. Hopefully at the very least a remaster of Galaxy 2. And hopefully very little of the Direct is taken up with a movie when they could just do a separate Movie Direct later on.
I believe the mario movie sequel was leaked as Super Mario World.

This would align with SW1 Lite, it was like autumn of 2019 which was about 18 months after launch.
18 months after NS2's launch would be December 2027, which is obviously not happening. November 2027 is the next option, which would be pretty great if it weren't for the PS6 launch, and I imagine Nintendo would just settle for October 2027 in that case - or in another instance, go Q1 2028 for it -.

Bro why wouldn't you just listen or watch Nate's podcast. 🤦‍♂️ Watching a YouTuber who listened to Nate's podcast ffs 😂 this is what we do now, I guess
? Why does it matter? Dude asked a question, I answered with what I knew. I watched a 5 minute YouTube video instead of an hours long podcast. Thought I was being helpful.

Yeah, Nintendo's first priority is going to be creating a stripped back "lite" revision that they can sell for at least $100 less than the current Switch 2.

The current model's price is fine for enthusiasts and one-per-household buyers but eventually they're going to want to get the system in the hands of younger children and go after the "everyone in the family has their own" level of market saturation that the Switch reached.

A Pro/OLED model is at least four years away.
I honestly wouldn't mind a Lite if only it could dock. I hate that they arbitrarily limit the smaller sizes in that way.

Switch 1 Lite was 29 months after launch. It coincided with the first major Pokemon release on the system, just like the similarly low budget coincided with Pokemon X and Y's launch on 3DS.

Of course, on Switch 2, they have Pokemon months after launch, and apparently the next mainline game will be next year, which also feels too early for a Switch 2 Lite. So I would expect it to be timed with Animal Crossing, which means some time in 2027 or maybe 2028 would be when it comes out.

Did not realize the math was wrong, lol.

I'm expecting a big shadow drop tomorrow. You don't do a general direct on a Friday and not give people a good meal for the weekend.
Two free MyNintendo Mario wallpapers.

On a serious note if we get a shadow drop I'm expecting something small and niche like the online Mario bros game for the 35th anniversary. I would be happy with something like that. I highly doubt but of course would love Metroid Prime 4 releasing tomorrow.

Which would make zero sense to do these days when they already have a specific NS2 Edition line of games. Bizarre.

I think we're paying too much attention to the word "deluxe", this is like a rumor saying we will get a "deluxe" version of TOTK or Kirby Forgotten Land, the "Switch 2 Edition" branding is almost meaningless in the context of the rumor.

I personally think it will be Hades 2. The exact same thing happened with Hades 1. It hit 1.0 on PC and shadowdropped for Switch at the same time. Aren't we due for the 1.0 release on PC like any time now?

That's the whole point of the Lite model though. It's cheaper to manufacture. It doesn't have the HDMI out internals m, smaller form factor, etc. no detachable joy cons… if the Switch 2 Lite docked, it would be more expensive and sort of defeat the purpose of what the Lite is supposed to be. The whole point of the Lite model is to be an inexpensive alternative to help build up the install base to sell more software.

Just…sign of the times, man. We get "news" from a leaker who stated clearly he wasn't breaking or hinting at news in his podcast, that they were just doing a predictions episode. Someone listens to that and cherry-picks stuff and then puts it in their own YouTube video to masquerade it as "news"…it's just like we are so far removed from knowing anything or having sourced, reliable information. And we're so used to it that we toss it around like it's news to discuss. Pretty wild times we live in.

I'm not really up to speed with the Nintendo Directs. Are those in the know expecting big announcements today?

I'd be happy to learn of a new mainline Zelda game tbh. Although, I'm currently stuck in the Fire Temple on TOTK and it's grating my gears a bit. My least favourite of the four main boss areas so far. My favourite is the temple in the sand because it reminds me more of old-school Zelda dungeons the most.

I'm intent on not using a guide though, and haven't done so far, but those cart track puzzles are really twisting my melon. 😂

Correct, I was aware of the autumn 2019 date, meant to say 29ish months, not 18/19. Switch 2 Lite maybe they'll do it sooner because the price of the regular Switch 2 is so high and they've no doubt seen the feedback on the pricing. The goal is to do whatever it takes to grow the install base so they can again break records with software sales. So whatever they need to do to achieve that they'll do.

True, on the point of the device, but are you sure the lack of output from its USB to HDMi is a hardware difference and not just a software block? I thought (perhaps wrongly) that the Lite had the same USB-C setup as the Switch.

I'm not asking them to make detachable joycon minis or include a mini dock, which would, as you say, increase its manufacuting cost. I just wish they'd allow it to output if docked (or, more to the point, plugged into XR glasses).

There are a bunch of different formats Nintendo uses for directs and out of all of those this would be considered the most exciting one.

I'm definitely expecting some major announcements to come out of this showcase.

Although we might have to wait a bit longer for Zelda specifically.

Metroid sounds like a given, but the only game that interests me personally is the Splatoon Raiders spinoff.
Save for some unannounced mainline Mario game.
