Nintendo Direct | Xenoblade 3 announced

I feel that this game has the potential to blow Tales of Arise out of the water.

The discussion about character designs in this game (and other jrpgs) reminds me just how good Tetsuya Nomura actually is as a character designer. People like to make fun of his penchant for belts and zippers, but his characters always look unique and are easily recognizable without being too silly or over the top, and almost never look 'generic' (this recent Stranger in Paradise thing being a rare exception). It probably helps that most of his characters are done in a semi-realistic style, which makes them stand out in a sea of Japanese shonen Anime designs.

I really hope Monolith goes the semi-realistic route with future games (probably on the Switch 2 and beyond); it would be much more fitting for the kinds of stories they want to tell.
In case you forgot, The Torna member in Xenoblade 2 is designed by Nomura, no belts and zipper.

it isn't Xenoblade thread without character design debate lol

Went out yesterday to buy some USB cables I needed... saw they still had XB1 DE on display, so I gave in and (finally) bought it.
I probably won't have time to play it before XB3 releases though, what with my huge backlog and pharmacy exams coming up, but at least I have it.

As someone who has missed out on the Xenoblade games...how good are they as RPGs?

I used to be a big JRPG fan, but I kind of go in and out of favor with them. I had never played DQ until the latest one but ended up enjoying it. I enjoyed Persona 4 but couldnt get over the massive amounts of text of Persona 5, so idk...I kind of have to be in the right mindset sometimes.

This looks intriguing but I don't know how much I'd be missing without playing the first two.
They are masterpieces.

Not as good as my reaction to xenoblade definitive edition. I was watching the Nintendo direct in the break room at work and had to walk outside because I didn't want people to ask me why I was crying. 💪

What's strange to me is even though they are opposing nations with completely different technology being used they both share this same important custom of soldiers on the battlefield "mourning the dead" with a flute. They had to have been united as one before.
Really? in our world most nations mourn for the dead same way, even during worldwar 1&2.

Well, Malos was right. It seems like mankind is destined to fight each other, even without the dark Aegis.

I somehow hope they could being Malos back, he was such an awesome villain. Especially with that charisma David Menkin brought on him.

Now that I've had a few days to stew on the character designs, I'm mostly over it. I just hope the outfits are interchangeable like in XB1, because every outfit they've shown so far has been booorrriiiing. I still opine that the main characters feel like background npcs from XB2, but I digress, nothing I can do about it. Hopefully it's well written and we get some playable mecha suits or something.

Also curious to see if 3rd game going to have season pass like 2nd game did.

I would count on that. Expansions bring in additional revenue and we all loved Torna plus the additions to the base game. I played through Xenoblade 2 twice because of the season pass. One of the few times I've ever done that with a long JRPG.

Yeah, loved how well Monolith soft supported XC2.

Finishing up XC:DE now, does the dialogue get any better? There is a great story in this game but it gets easily overshadowed by tropey bullshit. Morally grey motivated characters that for some reason just spout never ending evil villain monologues about their plan and ideology, grand standing while important things happen all around you in slow motion that seems to affect nobody. I like the game but I want to love it, the plot deserves better than this delivery.

The villains and their motivations are better in Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 2 is a better game all around.

I'm just really glad they announced it for this year. Bonus points that it isn't a December release again. I'm guessing BOTW 2 will be the big holiday title this year, although that would take it out of the running for the awards.

Xenoblade always gets snubbed at those, so it doesn't matter.

Oh right without the god-awful British voice acting (I'm British, it's fucking awful ... not quite as bad as the main character voice in XC2) it actually seems like a good game.
I don't mind the voices, it's nice to hear accents I'm a bit more familiar with ;) Not sure about that gruff, Brummy sounding guy in the trailer though, it comes across as somebody who has watched far too many episodes of Peaky Blinders. The Welsh accent suits the cute cat girls down to a tee.

In Miiks analysis, he said that you can see different outfit for Noah and Mio in the trailer, basically confirmed you can change the outfit

Do you guys thing we might get Xenoblade 3 focus Direct like we got with 2nd game?
Most likely, Xenoblade 2 is currently the best seller in all Xeno series, finally surpassed the sales of Xenogears.
