Nintendo Direct | Xenoblade 3 announced

You think so? Maybe the high entia girl... and that's it at least for me, I'll add that I never liked the Alvis design in X1 due to how "idol-ish" and out of place he looked, maybe I'm just too used to anime that I cannot see everything so same-y anymore
I mean, I prefer the XB3 one but there's a lot of overlap in these designs.

They may look somehow similar for some but I don't get the same "feel" from them, so can't understand, I like the X3 design anyway so I'll be ok anyway, I think it fits the franchise perfectly

Fair to say some will enjoy those design and some won't but thankfully for me I do so the designs will not stop me from enjoying the crap out of the game like I did with first two games.

Xb2 for best story? Get out of here. The ending was a cop out and xb1 story is just overall better. I hadn't touched a jrpg in years before trying xb1 and that's the game that got me back into the genre. Mostly due to the story. I love a good plot twist she xb1 was full of them.
I found Xenoblade 1's story pretty forgettable overall. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For instance, imagine The Last of Us 2 scenes but with cute lolis and cute stylized faces. Yeah, that would creep people in an instant.
I already don't take TLOU2's story seriously even with realistic visuals.

Like I said before I have zero issue with character design in XC3 and if I like the characters and the world then I take story seriously regardless it's anime artstyle or not.

Yeah, there's

Stylized ----- Semi-Realistic ----- Realistic

and everything between those.

That was due to technical limitations of the Wii Danjin, the eyes were basically painted on the character's faces, just like Final Fantasy 12.

You can tell a serious story, but probably have a really hard time to add more mature topics without it sounding too pretentious or weird (e.g. those anime/games that are cute but secretely dark and edgy)

Anything that doesn't look like you average generic anime protagonist. I agree about Trails of Cold Steel and Tales Of characters, they have the same problem.
Yet that's the style most anime fans like, I love it, I don't see them changing it too much honestly, but that's ok, I actually think we need more high budget anime games

As someone who has missed out on the Xenoblade games...how good are they as RPGs?

I used to be a big JRPG fan, but I kind of go in and out of favor with them. I had never played DQ until the latest one but ended up enjoying it. I enjoyed Persona 4 but couldnt get over the massive amounts of text of Persona 5, so idk...I kind of have to be in the right mindset sometimes.

This looks intriguing but I don't know how much I'd be missing without playing the first two.

Play the first two game and see if you like core combat and progression, and from trailer it seems they are combining the world in XC1&2 and there gonna be returning characters from both games.

Danjin, this is more about developer's choice than limitations.
This comes close though.
???? Thats not semi realistic, Doi artstyle still very anime and if you calling XC3 designs "generic" so dose theirs.

The semi-realistic you are talking about is this.

FFVIIR style is not gonna work in scale of Xenoblade on Switch.

What do you mainly look for in terms of RPGs? if you enjoy stuff like story heavy ones like Persona then Xenoblade can definitely be up your alley. It's a grand sci-fi fantasy epic, which is a bit more like the older style JRPG's from the PS2 days. Opinions on gameplay may vary but if you get hooked, you end up sticking with it to the end. Grab XB Definitive Edition and give it a shot.

It's going to be a long wait for September. The mystery behind the worlds merging and its implications interest me more than any other game releasing this year.

You and me both, the wait to Elden Ring was already painful, for Xenoblade 3 is going to be even worse.

Unsurprisingly, there's already quite a lot of Xenoblade 3 fanart around. Going to pixiv just the day after the announcement, I already saw a dozen.

Surprisingly though, most of them are actually tasteful...

Once again trying to get collectors edition for this game is gonna be next to impossible in Canada.

The flute music is especially beautiful, I have a hunch I will once again import the OST from Japan just to listen to the gorgeous soundtrack.

It's great to see hype surrounding this game, hopefully we'll see it translate into record sales for the series. Twitter on the other hand is full of hate again, though that should not be a surprise.

Twitter working as intended. My favorite RPG series is getting an amazing looking sequel. I couldnt give any less of a shit what some clowns on Twitter think. 😂

The unified Homs/Mechon army at the beginning of the trailer looks damn terrifying.

Guys.. I haven't played a single Xeno game - show me the way..!

I'm not discouraged by dated graphics, just.. ease of access and ease of play.

Xenoblade 1 DE and Xenoblade 2 are available on Switch. Xenogears is available as PS1 classic on PS3, PS Vita, PSP, PS TV. Xenosaga 1-3 only on PS2

Xenoblade are pretty easy to play, if you can understand the battle system. Grinding is almost non existent since there are many way to earn EXP.
Xenogears is pretty grindy, battle system is not too complicated
I forgot how grindy is Xenosaga, battle system also not too complicated IIRC

The only part I remember about it is that it was eluded to at the end of XB2, but I really forget most of that game too. How am I supposed to remember a story from a game 5 years ago when I've consumed 100s of stories from games, tv, movies, and books since?

I think it was something about a quest to pick up a bunch of shiny blue dots. Occasionally a red dot, which is a very special kind of dot.

Man. Maybe it hit me at just the right time in my life or maybe I'm just partial to its style of storytelling, but hearing anyone say Xenoblade 1s story is forgettable triggers me hard! :(

Kind of depends. My favorite one of all time is Xenogears, then probablY Chrono Trigger, then one of the Final Fantasies.

I love good story, characters, and world. The gameplay just needs to be engaging

The discussion about character designs in this game (and other jrpgs) reminds me just how good Tetsuya Nomura actually is as a character designer. People like to make fun of his penchant for belts and zippers, but his characters always look unique and are easily recognizable without being too silly or over the top, and almost never look 'generic' (this recent Stranger in Paradise thing being a rare exception). It probably helps that most of his characters are done in a semi-realistic style, which makes them stand out in a sea of Japanese shonen Anime designs.

I really hope Monolith goes the semi-realistic route with future games (probably on the Switch 2 and beyond); it would be much more fitting for the kinds of stories they want to tell.

I personally dont, I actually come really like Saito's character designs and based on how much XC2 sold and XC3 using same artist, I'm not alone.
