But Nintendo published it ...so what's the problem? That didn't stop Secret of Mana (also published by Nintendo for the SNES in Europe) from hitting Wii VC for example.

Translation copyrights and the use of such can be a thorny issue on its own, another thing we touched upon now that I think about it. That being said the specific insights into Lufia II were not given to me. Maybe next time.

Nothing was said against Lufia but the not so subtle hint between the lines is Natsume is more interested in the newer sections of the Virtual Console so while it is not specifically out of the picture I can't say I am too hopeful about seeing it anytime soon.

Oh yes, thinking about it, there was another clue dropped by Graham about Lufia II and why it probably not coming. I recall he mentioned on of the VC criteria was if the code was usable in all territories and Natsume never published this game in Europe. Granted that might not make too much of a difference in most cases but this is an RPG we are talking about.

Boo =(

And, that's really strange they require it to be usable in all territories...
Hadn't even heard that before...
Would think that would cause a problem for a whole bunch of games...

Also, sadly I can safely say that there will be no transcription as done by us, nobody on staff has the time to put this very long interview to the written word I am afraid. If somebody else wants to do it, then that is their pursuit.

That's alright, I understand. Thanks =)

It doesn't make the game look any better...

But it makes it handheld!

On one hand, I do have fond memories of the game. I loved it when it came out, and the music is fantastic. On the other hand, The DS version is superior in content and models, but controls terribly. In the end it leaves me not wanting to play it at all, given the game was merely decent, though it was a great achievement in gaming at the time.

For the 3D Marios I'd have to go with:

3D Land ≥ 3D World >>>>>> Sunshine > Mario 64 >> Galaxy 2

Never played Galaxy 1.

why are all these Galaxy haters coming out of the woodwork suddenly? Gosh, what a world!

I keep pinching myself to see if I wake up.

I've learned that people can in fact be objectively wrong.

I mainly find Galaxy completely awkward to play, especially compared to the delight that is 3D Land/World. But you can feel free to dismiss my opinion, after all I think NSMB2 is highly underrated, and most people seem to agree that one's terrible.

People are wrong about NSMB2, it's got great level design overall.

Not more wrong than Galaxy haters though.

Silly question, but--would you believe I've never taken advantage of the Wii --> Wii U upgrade program? Given that, if I get the SM64 CN reward in Wii mode, how will Wii U know I have it in the Wii mode when I want to upgrade it? Or am I thinking about this the wrong way?

--

Also, does SM64 look oddly dark, or is it just that first screen?

Thanks!

If its on your Wii it has a valid download ticket both their server side and on your console. It checks that and gives you the discount.

But I really liked NSMB2 as well. And I love the SMG games. lol

That's just screenshots. They look darker than the actual game. Screens are not representative of the brightness in the case of N64 VC.

Yeah, that's just the screenshot. It looks brighter/more like it should on the gamepad (and the television as well I would assume. Don't even have the system currently connected to a television though >.>)

That's not "Mario 64 on a handheld."

That's "What could have actually been an improvement on Mario 64, but instead was ruined by absolutely horrid, disgusting controls, that are an affront to the game, on a handheld"

How long until Super Mario 64 3DS with the bonus of Peach & Waluigi being playable?

I would pay so much money for this.

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
Whoops was thinking of World 4. But yeah, just finished World 7 & the game is starting to get a bit harder, especially for some of the crowns.

For $5, I feel like it's a nice "break" game. Something smaller & simpler, but you still feel satisfied in completing the set of levels.

Ah did not know Psyscrolr is not on the Canadian eShop! Friendly reminder to devs that legions (I hope) of English speaking fans from all over the world use the Canadian eShop because the US one doesn't take non-US credit cards (last I checked). Let me buy your game!

Neat list, Joe. Thank you. Given the lack of English translation, would Custom Robo or Animal Crossing really be likely?

Also, why no Pokemon Stadium? Just the link stuff?

Anything's possible. I'll remove AC, but Custom Robo could happen.

The Pokémon Stadium games are useless without RGBYGSC compatibility and that won't happen.

Why is that? They still have quite a bit of independent content even without connecting to to the GB games. I never had a GB adapter, and played the second one for plenty of hours.

Yes, but Lickitung's Sushi Minigame is one of the most fun and cute takes on the Pokemon franchise ever. ;__;

Is Custom Robo not super text heavy?

Going from the two games that were released in English, The game probably not to hard to play without reading, but it likely has a story campaign full of text. (Although going by the games that were released in English, that story is likely a dosage of WTF-ness anyway. :p)

From what I remember Stadium 1 (Japan only) doesn't have rental Pokemon at all.

Releasing the others with rentals only will just lead to complaints of "where the VC version" which will cost more to deal with than the revenue the games bring in. Plus rentals only can sometimes really not be a fun place to be in (especially the lower level cups with the silly rules of like "level 15-20; total level can't exceed 50" so you wind up with your 3 level 15s vs a level 20 Dragoinair* and 2 level 15s, the Dragonair can slaughter you with ease due to the massive stat difference between level 15 and level 20 and even if you do manage to take it down the other two are a coin toss)

*-You can't even get that in-game so the computer is a cheater. Wait, Yellow version you can get a level 15 Dragonair there :(

Oh, interesting. Thanks for the info!

Scram Kitty balance board controls!

Not an announcement that they'll release an update that makes it possibe but at least they're playing with the idea. I just love when indie devs take advantage of Nintendo's quirkier controllers.

That's crazy. I'd totally try that! Exercise + SKAHBOR, how the heck can you go wrong?!

Eligible Nintendo DS list:

Stafy 4

Wishful thinking I know, but I think this would be a fair import candidate. I mean, I plan to import it eventually anyway, but it would be really awesome to see it released on VC. Same with the GBA ones. I guess we don't see too many Import VC games these days, though.

What's the basis for eligibility here? For example, I notice you didn't include Capcom or Konami games in the lists, but both have supported VC.

EDIT - NM, I didn't realize all of those were published by Nintendo.

Just listing first party here. I originally started listing these when people said "Nintendo are dropping the ball with VC" to prove that Nintendo have practically finished NES and SNES releases of their own games.

You know, the Diddy Kong Racing DS port is really quite good, except for using the touchscreen to boost. I wonder if that port got the appreciation it deserves.

I'm kinda torn on picking up DK 64. As a kid I could never beat that damn 50 minute Hideout Helm nonsense, and I'm sure save states would help. I have a good amount of nostalgia for the game, too.

Is that game actually *good* though? Was it ever good? Like with BT I'm just not sure how I feel like it would hold up, and I remember it oscillating between fun and frustrating as a kid. Those Arcade minigames ;__; Ridiculously hard.

(Was Banjo-Pilot any good?)

Eligible Nintendo DS list:
A few comments.

Another Code: Two Memories also has a sleep mode puzzle.

Jam with the Band and Elite Beat Agents I don't think are eligible because they come with licensed music (Karaoke and sound alike versions respectively). Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 1+2 I believe was the actual original versions of the songs so also not eligible.

Personal Trainer: Walking is useless without the Pedometer connectivity so not eligible. You can do a lot more in Pokemon stadium games you dismissed on N64.

Slide Adventure MAGKID is a similar unlikely in that it uses an optical mouse peripheral (plugged into slot 2 on a DS/DS Lite).

100 Classic Book collection is all public domain books hence no licensing issues. Still not going to happen as what is the point? You can use the Internet browser to read public domain books for example.

I remember feeling almost insulted that the game was so much of a collectathon that there were actually colored bananas that you could only pick up while playing as the proper Kong. I don't mind collecting in games but DK64 took it to the extreme.
