Nintendo @ E3 - No Direct, Just Zelda Treehouse Stream

The funny thing was I questioned if they would even do a digital event so I'm not really surprised lol. I'm glad Nintendo is straightforward now with what they're doing and showing.

Zelda will be amazing to see. It's a huge title for them and it deserves it.

Really Nintendo? I mean.....you DO have a great 3DS line up and still have #FE coming out this year on Wii U; you could bother trying to show those off..........

Oh well, not the biggest Nintendo fan anyway, but will be sad not seeing a interesting Nintendo Direct this year. They really have to impress with Zelda, as that of itself is a poor move (considering the game is still a year away).

Hope their NX announcement is not far from E3 (August the latest maybe?) honestly.

Nintendo removing any hope of happiness or joy from its fans.

I hate how Kimishima has kept the company completely silent over the last year. We've gotten nothing out of Nintendo forever. And it feels like its just going to stay that way for who knows how long.

I thought we around knew this?
Why would they have a direct for one game?

We knew that Zelda would be the only playable game on the showfloor, but that didn't mean they wouldn't release trailers and new info for other games. But apparently they really show Zelda and only Zelda.

It's quite weird, since they still have quite a few 3DS games to be released this year.

When it comes down to it ...the only currently announced first party game for Wii U or 3DS that I'm interested in... is Zelda.

..but it seems bizarre to not have a Direct at all...even if the Nintendo Direct itself only showed Zelda.

It would be another Wii U situation if it's another bad product like the Wii U. But then delaying the reveal won't help them anyway. Considering that several new hardware is releasing soon, this would have been the perfect opportunity to chime in ,,mid gen". Instead, they now give the entire marketshare to Sony/MS again, without even trying. Unless the NX reveal is only a few weeks later, NX is inherently hurt when everyone's already spending hardware money on VR preorders and others. While their already dead in the water public image is gonna go downhill even further, considering that now everyone believes something's seriously wrong with NX. Plus it's gonna like that they aren't even part of the industry anymore, when the rest of E3 is gonna highlight that Nintendo's not the place you can play any games at.

In fact, considering the console is supposedly 10 months away, it's highly dubious that they can't show anything off. I mean, iirc just recently Eiji Aonuma said that the infamous Twilight Princess reveal was based on a hardly playable build. Yet they can't get decent footage for games that they want to bring out in March? This stunt made me lose hope that they've learnt from Wii U significantly. This move is just as delusional as their Wii U strategy.

I don't think the problem is that they don't have any games or builds which could possibly be shown, rather, it's that they apparently don't want to show them at E3.

Could be because they want their own event and don't want the risk of being overshadowed, or because the games rely heavily on the "new concept" of the NX which they don't want to announce yet because they don't want the NEO or Xbox Elite or whatever to shoehorn in an analog before they release (I think it was Iwata who said they don't want competitors stealing their ideas).

Whatever their reasoning, it still sucks for fans, and definitely hurts their mindshare, so history will tell us if it was a good plan.

Definitely adds credence to the idea that they'll have their own major event later in the year but I still don't think this was a good move.

Maybe E3 is slowly dying, but it's still pretty unwise to not at least try to place yourself on equal footing as your competitors at what most people perceive is the biggest event of the year.

Someone was gonna have to be the first of the big three to pull out of E3, but it's certainly a risky move, and definitely hurts Nintendo's mindshare.

That said, people will be super hyped to see Zelda anyway so maybe it isn't the worst idea.

Probably is though.

I disagree. Nobody really gives a shit about e3 other than Press and enthusiasts like us, both of which are well connected enough to see their independent event later in the year anyways, and even know exactly why they skipped out on e3. Just Zelda is still better than the year we got Wii sports resort

I mean what do they have to show? Zelda..Pokemon..help me out here. A Zelda direct is really all they got lol..It's kind of hilarious and sad but certainly not surprising since we know NX won't be there.

E3 2017 is another story, with NX in full swing by then if they still don't show up we can safely say they're done with E3 forever.

I'm guessing some people here will explain why E3 is going down the tubes and how this is actually better than MS and Sony actually being at E3 giving speeches and showing like 50 games.

Considering NX is less than 12 months away, you would think they would want to start the momentum for fans to get interested. I don't care for Zelda games so I guess I will skip it.

I think what we can infer from all of this is that the NX is far more than 12 months away.

I'm sure this has already been touched on, but is it too late for them to modify the hardware? Is it possible they'll try to be a little closer to the ps4 neo spec wise for the console?

Somebody made a poorly-worded genie wish about seeing "more Zelda than ever" or something and this is the result. They also wished for "a million bucks" and got stampeded by elk.

Even though make elk are technically bulls, not bucks, this genie is a prick.

Strange. Could they really be that much out of the loop?

I mean there is hope if this means that basically almost every of their team is working on NX games, but march 2017 is 10 months away. This IS the last E3 before launch.

I wonder if the new PS4 and XBox one have anything to do with it? Was NX (slightly) more powerfull than both the regual PS4 and Xbox One, and now not anymore due to the new versions?

Also, I get that open world for Zelda is big for the series, but it has been done. We don't need an entire showfloor to give us the "feeling" of open world, what I'm expecting they will try to do.

As a fan, first time I'm really getting flashbacks to the dreamcast time, it was also THE console for SEGA that was gonna show you all and set everything right.....

I mean, yeah it's lame, but what else were they going to talk about? All the other playable games at their E3 booth?

I think what we can infer from all of this is that the NX is far more than 12 months away.

I don't see any other option. The march release date is almost certainly a big fat fib just to keep investors off of their back so they can say they have something coming this fiscal year.

This tells me two possible things.

1. Nintendo is eventually going to drop E3 for good or just do the bare min to keep their booth space.

2. It looks more and more like there will be a big NX event after E3 similar to how Sony and Microsoft had their events for the PS4 and XBO. Similar to how EA is having it's own event right before E3. How Bethseda just has it's event and then shows up at presentations of other shows.

This doesn't hurt Nintendo I think in the end. Let's not get it twisted. This is really another nail in the coffin for E3 itself.

Well, looks like I might just skip E3 outright this year. I mean Zelda is nice but this sounds like a "spoil the whole damn game" event. I don't WANT a whole damn day of this game, give me a tease then shut up about it.

The PR given about Zelda makes me firmly believe this is Zelda Skyrim.

This feels like something purely for Nintendo fans. I can't understand why they're even attending E3 this year otherwise.

They're going to be pushing the NX version much, much harder than the Wii U game later this year.

"If you don't like Zelda, then fuck off!" - Nintendo at E3 2016

It looks like Nintendo is either woefully unprepared or it's waving the white flag on 2016. Feels like a rudderless ship over there.

So they really aren't announcing anything new? Just Zelda? So we have nothing for Wii U this holiday?

Sticker Star 2. Yeah, it might as well be nothing.

This feels like something purely for Nintendo fans. I can't understand why they're even attending E3 this year otherwise.

I'd imagine a lot of Nintendo fans (the kind that tune into E3 anyway) don't care about the Wii U version anymore.

Wow so it really is just Zelda at E3.

Well at least now we know outright not to expect anything else. Pretty disappointing but whatever. Their inevitable big event for the NX reveal is all I really care about at this point.
