I don't suppose it's too early to look forward to whenever the NX reveal is, then, especially if it's like Spaceworld. What with people complaining about this E3 being Zelda only, at least we'll go into that with even less information (fuel for hype, if nothing else). :p

What would be a fucking mess is Nintendo revealing a comparably low-powered, "new way of playing"/gimmicky device at the same show as a brand new version of this gen's best selling console and a 6TF Xbox.

Would be a media shitshow.
So when are they supposed to show it? Neo and Scorpio aren't going anywhere, they'll be there at every single gaming event, more impressive every time. Nintendo simply wasn't ready for the upgrades by Sony and MS, NX won't ever look impressive compared to those two, it can only be different and fun, it'll be like Wii all over again and showing it at E3 would've been perfect.

It's pretty simple- they reveal it at their own event, pretty much exactly how Sony and MS revealed the PS4 and XB1. If they won't reveal it at E3 none of the other major conferences make sense either, so expect their own event sometime between August and October.

Defending Nintendo? Why waste your time? There is nothing to defend, Literally. Just hold on and you may live long enough to see the release of a new Zelda and the NX. The future can only be dreamed of and your role in it uncertain. All that is real is what you can experience first hand, here and now. ( =

what-ok

Er... I think because there aren't any third party Wii U games to show. Not much for the 3DS either, besides localizations. And honestly they've shown off a lot of those games in the past, so I don't see much of a point in showing them more when instead they can double down on Zelda.

If they weren't this confident with just Zelda I imagine there would be other things they could do, but since it seems like they are, I'm genuinely excited for it.

What's the problem with localizations? They are good games, most of them exclusive (3DS). Just because some games have been released already in Japan doesn't mean they can't show them for the West. They've done it plenty of times in the past.

I can't understand how one platform holder showing just one game in the biggest gaming event of the year seems acceptable to you. It's like Sony only showing Uncharted, that would be a disaster.

I know Nintendo doesn't care that much about E3 but they haven't really done anything to replace it.

they're using all this floor space for just ..Zelda.

This screams like this was a last minute call. During january time they probably had planned out NX reveal etc for E3 i mean why else get all that floor space, da fuck.

what if nintendo got confirmation of competitors revealing their new hardware this year too and said fuck it, we'll let them battle it out this E3, we'll reveal it a bit later so NX gets all the attention when revealed

Or Nintendo will actually surprise everyone and reveal the NX with no leaks.

This is almost certainly the case. Trev's leak alone is enough evidence that E3 was likely to be the plan originally, as the NX (console, handheld, both, whatever) was intended to be released in November 2016 along with Zelda. Everything else that he included in his leak was 100% spot on. The leak was in late February, so sometime within 2 months they made the call to move everything around.

The real question is why. But I'm definitely not upset about it anymore. We'll get the NX reveal in September or so and love it. (hopefully)

Having been to an E3 where they showed off a Zelda for the first time (Twilight Princess), dedicating the whole booth to it is not a bad idea logistically. There was an 8 hour line to get into the section of the booth with Zelda.

Wasn't the big unveil at E3 for both PS4 and XB1 where all the details was shown and the prices/specs/offline/online/used games differences started the PR war?

I think Nintendo need to show it somewhere where they can get a big impact at all media outlets, especially if it's different. If the launch is in march then I don't get when they're supposed to get the mainstream media to write about it, they aren't Apple yet.

Right now I'm thinking that it'll be delayed. They've probably gone back to the drawing board to beef it up to better counter Neo/Scorpio. They must've changed the plans. It doesn't make sense to plan an E3 show with just Zelda. Didn't they have more floor space than usual this year too?

I never said it's acceptable to me, in fact I remember saying it sucks as a fan and I'm quite disappointed. But you can also look at it from a business perspective to see that it makes sense. Those 3DS localizations have been shown in Nintendo directs before. People know they exist, and clearly for whatever reason Nintendo doesn't feel the need to put any more oomph behind them.

Zelda on the other hand is probably their most important game in years, if not a decade. If Zelda hits all the right notes with all of the target demographics that should get them a nice bump in Wii U sales and a much more important surge in demand for NX at launch.

Also, I personally am super hyped to finally see Zelda, and to be honest I probably wouldn't care much about anything else they might show or announce, barring anything NX related. So while I wouldn't call it acceptable I can say I'm okay with it, personally.

If I recall correctly, Sony had their own private conference in February 2013 to detail the specs and features of the PS4, and MS had a similar one for the XB1 in May, then E3 was dedicated to showing launch games for the systems.

If Nintendo wants its own press conference to reveal new hardware you can bet that it will be covered, no matter when it's held. Nintendo directs even get tons of mainstream coverage, even ones with relatively minor information like Cloud in smash.

The NX could very well be delayed but the exact format in which they reveal it will not play a role in that decision.

My girlfriend has been playing through Skyward Sword and just finished it last night.

It reminded me how FLAWED that game is, my god there are some missteps. It has a lot going for it, animations, art style, music, cutscenes, dungeons. But there are so many things that go beyond frustrating. It definitely feels more like a 'game' than any other Zelda.

I'm really worried now about this next one, I don't think I realised how long it's been. A lot has happened in games since 2011.

Have a link to this leak info?

MS unveiled all that crap at E3 and got railroaded by Sony. That gave PS4 a huge boost for this gen and is probably the biggest reason for it's success imo.

Nintendo was not wrong to want to have their own event for NX. E3 is what it is. It's a huge event but sometimes it can get too huge. With 2 new systems coming I think it's good that Nintendo isn't unveiling NX then. They'll have their own event. The media will gobble it up. They will trend all over twitter and facebook. No different than E3.

The scope of E3 just inflates it's importance in our eyes. And before someone assumes what I mean by that I want to say that I'm not saying that E3 isn't important at all.

What happened to games since 2011? Game design-wise i didn't see any major changes. And it's not like there hasn't been a zelda released since 2011. A link between worlds also released and presented cool aspects to the series, in which the zelda team is going to implement in Zelda U/NX. The remakes/remasters also show some aspects that they toyed with to put into the new zelda. I particularly liked skyward sword a lot, and i think that the biggest criticism about being linear and having some handholding was directly adressed as the thing that they are going to focus the most.

I keep forgetting about A Link Between Worlds, which is strange cause I loved every minute of it. My problem with Skyward Sword is how sterile it feels. Compared with Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, none of the creatures or areas feel believable or lived in. I don't want gritty realism but I dunno, the earlier games had this sense of an actual world that carried on when you're not there. The Kikri (sp?), Mogma and Robots (they look like something from Mario Galaxy) were all uninspired. The imprisoned fight four separate times?

Then there's Phi, who is... a robot, I get it. But she's very unlikeable. The final cutscene does manage to be quite emotional which is very impressive considering she could've been replaced with a washing machine and I wouldn't have noticed.

Also a whole lot of QOL stuff, can't speed up text, item description every time you pick something up.

It's a matter of unreached potential. The sky area is barren except for a few different minigames and Skyloft, you have zero connection to your bird, you can't fly at night? I remember when you first get picked up by the dudes at night with lanterns I was like oh man I'll be able to do that too I just need to get that lantern helmet doowacky. Nah :(

What has happened since 2011?

Nintendo have started making HD games for the first time, for starters, but also there's been a metric fuck-ton of open world games that have come and gone, I'm curious to see how Zelda fits into this type of game. Obviously everyone is I guess.

I really like Skyward Sword. It's on of my favorite Zelda games.

*shrugs*

I really liked it too, the first time anyway. It does not hold up anywhere near as well as any other Zelda game however.

That's the same floor space Nintendo has had for almost ten years. It has nothing to do with whether they planned to reveal the NX or not.

Even though I have greatly enjoyed their 3DS and Wii U offerings, I have nothing left but doubts for Nintendo. They have been flying head first into bloatware so hard I just don't know what to expect anymore, but Zelda is not enough. Wii U basically got 2 "rounds" of top class first party offerings before everything else was obviously pushed to NX. So will NX get the same output of quality? Fuck if I know.

They pretty much perfected Mario Kart and Smash Bros so even if there are sequels that are really pretty, I wouldn't be very moved to get newer ones. They need to really "pull a Nintendo" in the best way and innovate the whole damn scene. I don't expect a lot of titles at once, since they just don't do that, but that quality of groundbreaking titles has to be there over the course of time. I don't know if they're still into that since so many of their new ideas are lame cashgrabs inspired by phone apps. It's sad to see.

It's why seeing how well Splatoon has done as a new nintendo IP is relieving. Kimishima stating multiple times before that they want to allow younger developers to share their visions in future games also sparks some hope. I'll remain hopeful, but I won't deny that nintendo's recent actions have been disappointing as a nintendo fan:/

While I severely doubt the credibility of that leak, it would be hilarious if Nintendo had a huge direct with all these announcements weeks before E3.

In theory, yes. In execution, if this is really all they have to announce at the moment, I can't blame them for going all out on Zelda. The only new game there is Mario Party 11. Well, Mario Party 10 was actually unveiled at E3 2014....outside of the main presentation. They didn't consider it worthy enough of the spotlight back then, and they're wise not to head into E3 with MP11 as their sole new title.

Looking back at the list, Federation Force is missing despite its release date getting closer. Now -that's- hilarious.

Well, I for one am looking forward to the NX unveiling later this year. That, to me, will be a second E3 right there. So this year we will basically have two E3s. Hype!

Speaking of Pokemon, I wonder if they will announce Gold, Silver & Crystal for the 3DS Eshop at E3. It would make sense seing as how they put in all the work on Red, Blue &. Yellow to make them compatble with Sun/Moon through the Pokebank.
