Was also the only game announced for livestream, as well. No mention of other games.

In a press release titled "The Legend of Zelda for Wii U will be playable for the first time at E3," (not "All of Nintendo's plans for E3 this year") that ends with a suggestion to watch for more updates about Nintendo's plans for E3?

To stay informed about Nintendo’s presence at E3, visit Nintendo of America’s website at http://e3.nintendo.com

I am shocked and surprised that such a press release wouldn't mention any other games.

Should proooooobably get the title of this thread editted now that news of other stuff like pokemon and 3rd party has been confirmed to be shown during the two days now. Title is misleading given the current changes.

The point of the press release is to let us know what to expect. You'd think if they'd been planning on showing off other stuff they'd have mentioned it. Either they're really bad at press releases or their plans changed. Why purposefully create a negative impression ('only showing one game at e3') when it could have all been avoided by a simple phrase/sentence letting us know that other stuff would ALSO be shown.

All I'm saying is that anyone saying 'of course they were going to show other stuff' were just guessing (a good guess, but still a guess).

I am shocked and surprised that such a press release wouldn't mention any other games.

When Nintendo launched their E3 site with nary another game in sight, even as a token mention, it really seemed like they were actually planning to go through with the only Zelda thing. It's incredibly weird that they didn't even mention that they would show other games in any capacity.

That's the reasonable interpretation.

That's not what people wanted to hear, though.

When people saw "playable," they were relieved. Things had finally been cleared up. Sure, it wasn't what we wanted, but we knew that meant Zelda would be the only game that could be played. There would still be the Nintendo Digital Event to cover the rest of the games. And of course the Treehouse stream was sure to cover other games too.

And then the PR in the OP came out. Not even so much as a mention of "and other games" or anything. The Direct with the other announcements? Nope. No Direct at all. The Treehouse Stream? It would be devoted to Zelda. Was it just one day? Maybe the rest of the announcements would be the following days? But there's nothing in the PR about anything beyond the first day. Maybe everyone was collectively being stupid after that... or maybe things could've been a bit clearer.

Why can't just be hyped like everyone on Sony-GAF? :( I mean, we've been waiting 3 years for a Zelda UNX blowout and that's exactly what we're going to get in less than two weeks! Just like when Square did their Uncovered FFXV presentation.

I still can't believe that is out of some people conception that such announcements aren't final, and that show presentations are not static things.

Seriously, they may have stayed with the whole "not E3, only Zelda!" until 5 minutes before and it will be completely OK.

Hey, I'm plenty hyped. I'm taking a day off just to watch the Treehouse stream.

I'm tons of hyped!

Amen.
To me, we've seen absolutely nothing of Zelda.
Unless you're indifferent or don't like the series, people should be pumped it's getting the spotlight.
Nintendo's real E3 will be in around 4 months.

After that rumor of choosing Link's gender my hype was killed. But in the end it will be easy to impress me. Give the same Link as always and it will already be counted as a good thing about E3...XD
If, besides that, the game looks awesome, it will be a memorable expo after all.

Yup, if link was turned into a female for the mere sake of "diversity" then the beautiful over world, environments, music and fiendishly crafted labyrinths that are zelda dungeons will be ruined by association

Won't even play it

The sad part is that some probably actually think this way.

Hey man, im super hyped for zelda, dont worry about it.

I'm tons upon tons of hype! I can't hype any harder, simply hyped as much as I can...it's almost draining lol. I just hope they deliver above and beyond what I'm expecting. Bah, who am I kidding, it freaking Zelda so it's gotta be good :)

The point of the press release is to let us know what to expect.

The point of this press release is to let us know what to expect specifically for Zelda.

That's why the subject line is about when Zelda will be playable, not "here's what Nintendo is doing at E3."

When Nintendo launched their E3 site with nary another game in sight, even as a token mention, it really seemed like they were actually planning to go through with the only Zelda thing. It's incredibly weird that they didn't even mention that they would show other games in any capacity.

Zelda is legit the only game that seems to be getting any kind of actual unveiling, and their booth is designed around it.

Of course their E3 site is going to highlight it. It's not like their E3 sites in the past have been structured around their Treehouse Live schedule; they've been structured around unveilings and announcements.

Yeah, she just never spoke up and corrected everybody referring to her as a boy!

Voice acting solves that problem :P

Link talks in practically every Zelda game....

Unfortunately that only reinforced the perception problem they had... Oh well.

I think its more of an issue with the story. If there is a love interest do they turn Link into a lesbian? Do they gender switch the love interest? Will there be different dialogue options?, etc.

It all comes down to how story focused the game is and how much effort they're going to put into it.

I feel so sorry for anybody (mostly casuals) going into E3 expecting Nintendo to announce any new games or hardware.

Didn't Kimishima imply somewhere there might be more DLC coming? I could see DLC for Mario Kart 8 and maybe some other Wii U games and there are no Wii U games coming later this year lol (aside from Paper Mario).

I'm so hyped for E3. You guys need to be hyped too. Just enjoy it. We get to finally see Zelda with new conventions and other games like Pokemon too.

I would have to assume the people who pay to get into this would at least know not to go in blind? I mean having an itinerary and studying what they have at the places you want to go to is just basic tourist logic anyways.

I was talking about people following E3 coverage online.

Totally. I mean, let's not mince words about it - it's not some misunderstanding. Not only did they say that Zelda was the only thing but they followed up saying they were doing so on purpose to immerse people in it

It's not like it was a bullet point that was misunderstood. It was a bullet point, an explanation, and then no follow up or clarification afterward

One weird trend I've noticed this year are people really anxious to defend a company's communication skills. I don't get it. Nintendo is full of some very capable adults in marketing and public relations. They have access to way more data about the reactions to their pressers than any of us do

They knew how every single person interpreted their words. They don't need you defending them or telling us what they really meant - if they wanted to correct the public perception they would have. They didn't.

Isn't this latest news correcting it?

Also plans change. Heck, in previous years we were never told in advance what Treehouse was going to play on the days.

Perhaps, but to me it reads more like them changing their plans instead of correcting us on their initial messaging

I suppose I'm more talking to people who are acting like this should have been obvious from the start.

...at the fucking booth.

Nintendo E3 2016 site said:
Nintendo will transform its booth at this year’s E3 to immerse fans in the world of the groundbreaking new Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U™ console.

It's absolutely a misunderstanding if you think that "transform its booth to make it immersive" actually means "get rid of everything else they do to make all of their E3 activities more immersive."

It's not like it was a bullet point that was misunderstood. It was a bullet point, an explanation, and then no follow up or clarification afterward

Correct.

Because Zelda will still be the only game you can play at the booth.

The booth will still be themed around Zelda.

This hasn't actually changed, to our knowledge.

What's going wrong here is that people are projecting their poor reading comprehension onto Nintendo's ability to communicate.

They knew how every single person interpreted their words. They don't need you defending them or telling us what they really meant - if they wanted to correct the public perception they would have. They didn't.

I would think that announcing other stuff that will be shown during their Treehouse Live events would be the only possible "correction" to the original announcement that they'd have a day of Zelda (with no other plans announced, but a suggestion to look out for more plans to be announced in the future), if that was in fact not how their final schedule is going to end up.

What do you want from them, exactly?

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Zelda coverage as much as the next person, but I also have to keep in mind that they aren't going to show much else. And if there are any additional surprises when the presentation takes place, then it's cool.

Oh relax bud

I think this is the case... the "Day dedicated to Zelda" now starts with Pokemon footage.

So I'm kind of late to the discussion, but will this be the first E3 where Nintendo will not announce any new games?

It might be but we really don't know for sure. They could have some new 3DS games to announce, I think there's one that's unaccounted for from Trev/SuperMetalDave's leak way back in February (I think?).

I really can't wait to see more from the next Zelda game.

I'd honestly like to know if that IS the whole world map we've seen (basing it on the game pad view from the 2014 Game Awards video) or not.

I hope the NX version will have some differences as well. Maybe increased foliage or something... I dunno.

It will be nice to know what sort of gameplay elements we can expect too as since we've seen the world, it was mainly exploration. Curious about towns, quests and such... this supposed multiplayer or whatever.

I'm just saying to be hyped for Zelda. I'm not going to have any expectations for new game announcements except for Mother 3 localization.
