The thing I most dislike about this Zelda reveal is that the NX version is also coming but we are only seeing the inferior version of the game. It will look good but it's going to go up against 4th year next gen stuff and will not come close to it technically.

They should have used this as an opportunity to show off NX IMO.

No one even knows if the Wii U version is inferior.

Maybe graphically("maybe" because look at Twilight Princess Gamecube versus Wii) but this game was designed with the Gamepad in mind so it could actually be best on the Wii U.

Of course no one knows what the NX is or what the controller will be like though.

Well there are four-ish reasons they might now be showing the NX version.

1) It's not that much better looking than the Wii-U version, as either they're pulling a TP again and not utilizing the new consoles hardware improvements, or NX isn't that much more powerful to begin with.

2) They are holding off showing the NX version because they want to wow people later with the improvements the new system offers spec wise and how much better games on it look. (Which would be a pretty terrible marketing tactic)

3) They don't want to disrespect Wii U owners because this was originally just a Wii U game and the only original Zelda for the console.

4) They really aren't ready to announce NX and give away any expectations or features it might have until later this year.

It's probably a combination of two of those to one degree or another.

It's just dumb and they shouldn't have announced that it was a thing until later.

How do you get hyped for this when you know that they have another one behind the curtain? It would be like if Sony announced a ps4 slim and we know that there's a Neo that is also coming.

That's basically exactly what Microsoft is doing if rumors are to be believed.

Not really a fair comparison though. No matter what it's not going to be substantially better or different. The most we can look forward to is better IQ via resolution, AA and what not and maybe draw distance and increased foliage, but that's expecting a lot. It's by no means unrealistic to imagine Nintendo could purposefully not use the NX's power and keep both versions on par. The fundamental game is going to be exactly the same on both consoles. So it doesn't really matter that we're only seeing the Wii U version.

I'm looking at it from a standpoint of hey, finally, here's the new Zelda. I can see this stuff, see what the game is like and not really worry about what console it's on. I'll expect it to be pretty much the same on NX. That's the system I'll be getting it for, so for now I'm just looking at it like "here's Zelda" and not "here's Zelda on Wii U." It is Zelda on Wii U, but I don't see the NX version being terribly different.

It bothers me too but I'm rationalizing it by thinking that since the game was being developed all this time, presumably Wii U is the primary platform with NX being just an up-port, so it's not as if the NX version will look thaaaat much better. At least, that's what I'm going with.

I think Persona 5 is a similar situation?

Speaking of differences, I wonder if the NX version will be sorta like... more density (growth, etc) in the environments, higher resolution/frame rate (this game being 60fps oh my god please), stuff like that. I think visually it'll be roughly the same but it could have those differences.

You're all wrong and I'm right dammit.

Don't get me wrong, I wish we were seeing the NX version next week too! There's almost no chance of me buying the Wii U edition.

The NX version will be in widescreen!

Do you have a complete physical collection of the zelda series?

Yes, but not everything in boxes (missing from this picture are TPHD, WWHD, TFH, the GBA NES ports, and LA/LADX, but I do have them)

Note: None of these were purchased for collection purposes - I just bought them when they came out (or to replace stolen copies). These are my acutal, played versions of each game. They all have my save files on them (where possible)

Only JP game I own is ocarina.

My original copy of ALttP was stolen, so I had to buy the 30 dollar reprint version in like 97.

I'll probably seek out boxed versions of the games I don't have the boxes for anymore once I finish paying off student loans.

I also own a complete digital collection of the zelda games on my 3DS + Wii U, where possible. Obv not every game has a digital version, but between those two I think I have every digital zelda game?

Nice. I have all US in boxes, and about 60% of Japanese releases in boxes. Only PAL one I have is OOT.

Yeah, I'll eventually round out my collection, but priorities and all.

I'd love boxed versions of every game from every region, but alas, I can't justify the cash.

Heck they just might show NX footage and try to pass it as U footage!

I've actually wondered what exactly Zelda is going to be running on at E3. I don't think they'll be secretly running NX in front of us, and I'm sure it'll look like it's being played on Wii U...but it would make more sense to me if they juiced it up

It's definitely expensive. I started in the late 90s when prices were normal on eBay. They have skyrocketed since.

Nintendo doesn't usually do that, though? That's usually for games that are also getting a PC port and they'll pass off the PC port as the console version sometimes.

I don't think there's any instance ever where nintendo was found to be using a PC or suped up hardware to demo a game, as far as I know.

TBH I'm pretty happy with my 'played' collection - i can go back and play any of them if I want, they're *my* games that i played growing up. NES ones were bought at launch during NES era and have been played ever since.

Cool! i only have the games from the gc era onwards, the rest i have almost all in digital form. At least i got mm 3d and oot 3d to have these games in physical form

Seeing as they're showing so little, I really hope they put on some decent sales during E3 on their current Zelda games. In particular, WW HD and the Hyrule Warriors DLC could stand to get a discount. WWHD is now 20 euros in Europe, so hopefully that price drop happens in the US.

Releasing a free skin of the new Link for Link in Smash Bros would also be a great way of hyping people up for the new game that wouldn't require a huge amount of work compared to the goodwill it would generate.

We don't know what the NX is to really complain about not seeing the NX version of Zelda
I guess the complaint is that 2004 E3 was the last time Zelda was on the forefront of graphical fidelity. With NX being more powerful, it's possible it will have Ps4-level visuals, and our introduction to this Zelda will instead be a generation behind.

Back when Metroid Prime was shown and TP, it was exciting partially because it was a franchise we loved seen in a way that couldn't be done before.

But the witcher just released a big expansion pack and will undoubtedly look Better. It's not Zelda, but it would be nice to have wow factor with the series.

Nx could well be a "wii" (overclocked wiiu), or a portable system

It will indeed be suspicious if there's a Wii U visible and there is "LOL" formed in the dust on it.

Yeah, but I guess if the NX isn't ready to show then it's not ready lol.

They're going to reveal the NX this year and I'm like 100% sure they'll be showing off NX Zelda there considering it's going to be a huge launch title for them.

So....Where are the crate pics this year????? Any crappy-potato-picture of the Nintendo booth construction works or something??? I can´t believe that there are no images around GAF already!

I'm glad Nintendo warned us that there would be no NX.

Could you imagine the reaction to their huge crates....of Zelda theme parkish decorations???
