Nintendo statement on lack of adaptor in NA.

Can't see the problem here... That's a pretty reasonable explanation. The console would cost more if they included the adaptor as standard. Now you're saving money if you don't need the adaptor, or paying what it would have cost had they included the adaptor as standard if you buy the adaptor seperately.

The new 3DS costs the same as the old 3DS, which included one. And sure, it has some updated internals, but I can't possibly imagine the modest updates are in excess of what the dwindling component costs have saved them by now.

If they truly cared they would've made the thing charge through microUSB and let people use the 1000 sub cables they already have.

Instead we get this BS move and equally BS response. There's no way they're passing any savings onto the consumers on this, none. Nintendo's just cheap as fuck and know that they won't lose a single sale by leaving it out.

You're not saving money, Nintendo's saving money. Chargers aren't costing Nintendo more than $3 to make. You really think the New 3DS would've cost $203 MSRP had they not done this? Of course not, they would've eaten the cost and charged $200 still because no manufacturing company is that stupid to include necessary cables as part of their pricing (cables and chargers cost pennies to make at this day and age).

If you honestly believe that they're passing on the amazing $3 savings to you then I have a bridge to sell you.

I love how they make it sound like they're doing us a favor by ripping us off.

Thanks, you fucking cheapasses!

It's like this in EU too except for the 2DS. Honestly is pretty bullshit. Just a hidden cost that the consumer has since you can't charge it unless you buy it of course.

They shouldn't even be allowed to do this.

Gonna call a hefty bullshit on that and speculate it's to limit the number of returns of old units. Can't return it without the charger, or at the very least you get less money. My guess is they're hoping most people don't bother trading in the old ones to limit the number of used units and maximize the number of people who have to buy new while simultaneously collecting extra sales on new chargers.

I get that this has been the norm in other areas but that doesn't mean its something we should just accept.

I think this is the cheapest move I've ever seen Nintendo make. I'm struggling to think of any other company that sells a device with a rechargeable battery without including a cable to charge the battery.

What about first time 3DS owners? Why is this new 3DS marketed solely for people who own 3DS or DSi?

Its not even a standard charger.

EDIT: PS3/4 controllers not coming with chargers pisses me off, and those are standard USB. This is a whole new level of nonsense.

Actually now that I think about it, to trade the new 3DS, you are required to have a charging cable. So the cable in the end will net you -$15 dollars if you buy retail. You get no extra trade money for having it.

How is this saving me money, Nintendo?

Looks like Microsoft aren't the bad guys anymore. :p
My Lumia phone came with a charge cable, so you are right!

Or the microSD card since everyone already has one anyway right? That probably cost more to get than the charger.

Actually that one wouldn't work, since the OG 3DS uses SD.

The N3DS uses MicroSD, so old owners would not have a MicroSD and would be unable to use the unit's memory.

So analogy is poor.

This is far more anti-consumer than the initial Xbox One plan. At least with the original Xbox One plan you got everything in the box needed to plug it in, turn it on and have basic functionality.

Lol, good one Nintendo. The previous XL came with a charger for $199, and now you want people to spend an extra $10 on top of $199, thanks for the savings. Look at that value.

Because the original intended price point was $216. You're better off, see.

Hell yeah. I bought the cheapass Lumia Go Phone for 49 bucks and it even has a charger.

That new little nub isn't cheap. And those screens imported from the year 2006 aren't getting any cheaper to make.

How I translate their statement:
"Rather than reducing the profit margin of the New Nintendo 3DS XL by including the necessary charger, we are removing the charger and selling it for an additional profit."

Oh, so the New 3DS XL would have cost more than $200 if they included a $2 adapter? That's good to know. Thanks based Nintendo, this isn't bullshit PR speak at all.

The irony is that GameStop requires you to trade the charger in because the package isn't complete without it. You aren't able to play the system until it's fully charged. Meanwhile at Nintendo...

Can't wait until they unbundle the HDMI cable from Wii U's to save consumers a couple bucks.
(Which would actually be better because it's not proprietary)

Ah, so the prime target for the New 3DS is someone who already bought the previous versions. Of course.

The Gamestick I bought was 17 dollars, came with charger and another charger with a USB attachment.
Gamestick > new 3DS XL.

New Nintendo console only includes console. You have to buy the controller, AC adapter, and HDMI cable seperately. We are saving you money!

I guess one should be able to file a complaint at the European Commission since you're buying a product that's dysfunctional w/o further investment.

It's like buying a car where you had to buy a fuel door extra.

Hey, prove it. I'm not saying you're wrong, but conjecture isn't convincing.

Seem to be the only people buying dedicated handheld gaming devices, that's for sure. Heck, this move basically proves that they know the market for them is contracting.

People saying 'it's been like this in other territories, I don't see the problem' need to stop with that crappy excuse. That doesn't make the decision any less dumb, the charger should always be included in the box.

Come on the ancient 3DSXL hardware doesn't cost Nintendo much as well as the Adapter this isn't to save Consumers money, its so Nintendo can Nickle and DIme a few more Customers.

These post make it feel like Nintendo is forcing everybody to buy New 3DS. It sucks that it's not including the AC adapter, but people are going to buy it anyway.

Vote with your wallet and just not buy the new system.

Putting this thing out in the first place is a way to raise the price. If they want to charge $200, what would it have been with the charger? $201?

Which is why Nintendo is happy to say this. They know nobody can prove they're lying, so they lie.

Even better, they have such angry fans that someone will surely jump to their defense on how this is a great and revolutionary cost cutting measure.

The charger is too wide to fit in the box anyway. Maybe they got a great deal on cardboard boxes of a specific size and had to drop either the charger or the console itself.

That aside, I wonder if there is some sort of legislation about including a charging cable but not a transformer with a product. Hence why a ($1?) USB charging cable was not included in the box.

So...Probably a stupid question but will there be a boycott for this?

I mean, this is pretty anti-consumer. And as the saying goes, "You give these companies an inch, they will take it to the mile".

Or am I just a hater?

Bullshit. If you can't ship a complete product at a reasonable price point then eat the cost.

I am tempted to scalp the pre-order I got.
Make money on a fool.

$210.

I don't know why it's so hard to just buy a charger once you're in the store for $10. It's 5% over the price of the damn thing.

It's kind of amazing. Can you imagine the shitshow if any major electronic company tried doing this? Especially for a product where kids are a large market.

This kind of anti consumer defense of Nintendo in this situation is kind of disgusting.

Can't wait till' they unbundle the AC Adapter too and sell it separately
Nintendo looking out for me :") Thank you Lord Iwata.

Soo...if they included the adapter they'd charge, what, $210 instead of $200? Why is the old 3DS the same price as the new 3DS then?

Bullshit.
