Why even stop at power adapters, might as well sell it in a plastic wrap and not a shipping box if they wanna cut costs.
Might as well not even ship it. Gotta go to Nintendo headquarters to pick it up!

Really? I didn't know that. So if I go and buy a PS3/X360 it will not come with any video cable?
No HDMI, but it looks like RCA cables.
which is a similarly dumb move because can RCA cables really be any cheaper to make than HDMI?
I agree that HDMI is a non-proprietary cable so yes it's made by a variety of vendors but there are 3rd party 3DS style chargers as well so it's not like Apple chargers where only official products can be used safely.
Is nothing new, it was shitty when it happened to EU customers and it's shitty now.
I bough a new Xbox 360. It came with an AV cable and didn't had a component output. I had to buy an HDMI cable which was 6bucks because it was Christmas. I was pissed
Your comparison is flawed. It only works if they are not providing any video cables at all.
Which they are, hence not as big of a deal. People still had a problem with the PS3 only coming with composite cables for years, as well.
I'm really surprised at the uproar over this, especially considering it's been like this in other countries for what, the past couple of years? I mean, I think it's a stupid idea not to bring them with adapters in any country, but it seriously doesn't bother me since you can purchase them pretty cheap already.

I woke up planning to preorder a N3DS, and today's news changed my mind (not just the AC adapter but also limited colors, XL only, Majora's Mask edition not including the game, etc.). It's not really about the extra money and effort required to buy the cable separately, it's more about the fact that I don't want to support a company that has so much disdain for its customers that it would try to save a few cents by not including something in the box that's required for the system to work. That is a big middle finger waving in our faces.I'm sorry but it really feels like just another thing for people who weren't really that interested in the damn thing in the first place to get on their soapbox and yell ANTI CONSUMER about. It is an inconvenience that we should have to deal with but it isn't that serious at the end of the day....not serious enough to prevent someone from buying it...because really if 5-10 extra dollars is a big enough of a crime, then you weren't that interested from jump or you should probably stop buying videogames all together because buddy there is a lot of gnarly shit out there.
Today on NeoGAF:
The sleepy-eyed peasants of Gafsville were slinging mud pointlessly in the fields, when the rooster crowed. "Time for a Ninty Direct!" The unwashed masses shuffled off to town square...
...and that's when everything went horribly wrong. The Reggolian warriors rode through town, swinging swords and slinging arrows.
"Oh shit, no AC adapters!" cried one Gaffer, an arrow sticking out of his jugular.
"No faceplates?!" cried another as his head was lopped off and rolled down the street, a wayward chicken chasing after it.
"C-stick camera control is the only N3DS functionality in MM3D?!" screamed another as he tumbled off a balcony while on fire and then exploded in a wheelbarrow full of crude oil that was to be slung pointlessly later that day.
*The narrator closes his book, adjusts his glasses and looks at the camera*
It was a rough day on GAF...
Your PS4 came with one.I was pretty annoyed that my DualShock 4 didn't come with a charging cable. And no, I don't have any extra Micro USB cables.
Its sad to see anti consumer practices like this being justified and even outright praised here. No, it's not even sad really, it's sickening. People bending over backwards to defend corporations. The lot of you corporate apologists might as well have obey stamped on your fucking foreheads.

It also wouldnt be the end of the world if Nintendo decided to include one. Where are people making it seem like it is the end of the world?I agree. I think it is absolute bullshit....
however, it isn't the end of the world that some are making it seem.
I especially love that THIS is what makes someone not buy another Nintendo system...
yeah ok.

Agreed, but it can at the very least be used. The new 3DS cannot be used, period without an additional purchase. It happening in other parts of the world doesn't make it acceptable.
It's clearly all about you and no one else.
Nah, I would rather not support this type of business practice.
"Just shut up and spend the fucking money."
And we wonder why this industry keeps screwing its customers. The customers WANT to be screwed!
Hmmm I'm pretty sure I got one with mine...
Reminds me plenty of Sega's run during the Saturn / Game Gear era. They are asking for $250 ($230 for the system and $20 for charger) CAD for a new 3ds... this is the original price of the 3DS that launched early 2011. It is now 2015.
I'll pass. I'm not even surprised anymore.
PS TV has a SKU that works right out of the box, I am confused by your answer.Joke's on you, I have a PS TV.

Does the *new* 3DS use a micro-USB or it's own proprietary bullshit?

It uses the same charger that only fits 3DS/DSi chargers. The charger can be used for absolutely nothing else. Wii Gamepad charger also fits on nothing else. Wii Pro Pad uses USB B, so that at least isn't too bad!Does the *new* 3DS use a micro-USB or it's own proprietary bullshit?
It's been like this forever in the EU. Pretty common for phones too.

There are like 80 threads about this issue in which people are swearing off never buying another Nintendo product ever because of it.
Hyperbole and I am sure a lot of it is just general reactionary butthurt but still it is out there...the whole gaming side in general is just a negative mess right now lol.
How are they reacting like it's the end of the world? They're reacting to shitty product decisions. There are like 80 threads about this issue in which people are swearing off never buying another Nintendo product ever because of it.

Yep.This decision is something that hurts Nintendo much more than us.

Upgrades typically get cheaper over time do they not?
Proprietary.

Thank you for judging everyone's financial situations for them. I mean, hell, if you hadn't told us that we should stop buying video games over 5-10 dollars, we'd really be fucked.
Also, kudos in assuming that those who are upset about this weren't interested in the device. I thought I was interested. I mean... I was asking questions to those who had a New 3DS and it seemed like an upgrade to my "Old" 3DS XL might have been a good idea, but not because I was interested in it.
I must be in the minority who really doesn't care about the lack of an AC adapter. I've already got three. I assume most of you who are whining and complaining own one or two.
I actually believe Nintendo when they say it's for environmental reasons. I don't need a bunch of useless chargers around my house and neither do any of you.
Brian★;147507206 said:No, why don't we see Japanese people complaining over it, some Europeans not complaining over it. It always has to be the god damn Americans.
unless I'm mistaken the NES, SNES and N64 all used the same AC Adapter as well, so Nintendo could have just shipped the N64 without one since there were so many millions of NES' and SNES' out there.
What a crazy notion! To me when you buy a gaming console it should come with everything it needs to work right out of the box.
