Nintendo statement on lack of adaptor in NA.

IT's not a money or a "well your just upgrading so it doesn't matter problem". It's the fact that it's a new device not packaging an AC cord in the box. That shit is questionable from a buying standpoint regardless of what territory you are in. I can't think of a time I bought a electronic device and a cord was not with it because "it was packaged in the older model".

Would you rather pay $205 for a model with a charger?

yes...yes they can.

I agree..i think most people agree (except a few ...crazies) that they should of shipped with it.

however..for this to be the dealbreaker is just silly when the damn things cost 10 bucks at most or you have a few laying around, can borrow, shank a guy for, whatever.

IDK it just seems really small to get your panties in a bunch over.

It sucks. Should happen, Nintendo should be ashame, great dishonor, yaddi yaddi yadda.
Not a big deal at the end of the day.

Yeah I really don't understand how have to buy a charger that costs less than $10 is going to be a deal breaker. I can sort of see someone doing it based on principle, but it is a silly thing to put a line in the sand over imo. That said, Nintendo is stupid for not including it.

Any guesses if the New XL will fit in the charging cradle for the existing XL? Got one from Club Nintendo and I'd hate to stop using it.

Wow Nintendo decided to throw its hat into the screw consumers over and lie to their face on how it's good for them ring. First they give us the non-statement explanation on why no regular 3ds and now they tell us they are nickel and diming consumers because it's in our best interests. Has Reggie been attending conferences hosted by Ubisoft and Microsoft recently?

It tells you right on the box, so how is it not a money thing? Would you be okay if the price was $210 and came with a charger? If so, why are you not okay with buying them separately? Or are you just complaining on the principle? Just because it isn't common for it to happen in North America doesn't mean that it is an unfair business practice. You are paying less for slightly less.

I guess it is questionable if you cannot read the box in that clearly states that there is no charger. Did you know that Gameboys did not come with rechargeable batteries even though it supports it? It also did not come with infinite batteries. Some printers do not come with the cord that connects it to the computer either. There are a lot of toys that do not come with batteries either, even if they are required. The New 3DS XL will technically work out of the box, most electronics do come with a charge.

My point is that sometimes not everything comes in the box. But if RC Cars came with a 20-pack of AA's then people would be pissed at the premium they are paying for the toy.

This is such an Un-Nintendo like decision. They're usually really good about providing a system that works well without any extras. Even the Wii U has the charging stand AND regular stand included, along with a sensor bar.

Chargers aren't really expensive to produce.

"We realised that instead of including a charger that costs us 50 cents to make in the already-inflated cost of our product, we could sell it separately for $14.95."

Lock if old. Via IGN. http://uk.ign.com/articles/2015/01/14/new-3dsxl-doesnt-include-charger-here-are-some-options

Nintendo responded to our request for comment on why it was decided to leave the charger out of the box. According to Nintendo, it was a measure designed to save costs for consumers who may already own a 3DS or DSi system. According to Nintendo, "New Nintendo 3DS XL uses the same AC adapter as any Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo DSi system. Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter."

I honestly can't help but read their response as one of AngryJoe's tirades. The ones going in the vein of "because F- U-!!! GIVE ME MONEY!!!! THAT'S WHY!" or something akin to that.

Then again, those tirades from AngryJoe are amazing earworms. =/

This like legit pisses me off. I sold my 3DS thinking i'm going to buy this one to finish the games i have left to play on 3ds and get Majora's Mask then they pull this shit? Just the practice behind this decision is so stupid, i'll probably forgo buying it. Not including the charging cord is unheard of in NA. Stupid business from Nintendo and it's what i'd expect from them. They have clearly lost their way and are no longer the Nintendo i give a shit about, because they don't give a shit about me.

This is definitely an Iwata decision. Because this is EXACTLY what they do in Japan. System doesn't come with charger. I mean, they are just $10 at a GameStop or whatever, but still.

Just an odd thing to keep out. Wasn't there a law in the U.S. that stated a device must come with it's charger?

Bullshit. How much could a power cord or at the very least a simple USB cable to plug it in to a computer or other adapter to charge. I highly doubt these things are costing more than a couple dollars to include, They just want you to shell out the extra money for an adapter.

Would be nice if people voted with their wallets loud enough. Is the next Nintendo console going to be 299.99 without cables, controllers or adapter to give people "choice" too?

At what point did $199 become low priced for a dedicated gaming handheld?

The price is honestly the biggest story out of today's events and it's being lost in adapter-gate. The 3DS is 4 years old at this point, and they're still asking $200 for the new revision. Never mind a refurb Wii U, you could have bought a fucking Xbone over the Holidays for $200 effective if you otherwise wanted to buy one of the bundled games. As outrageous as the cost is, they're doing so knowing full well the platform only has 1-2 more years of notable support (if that). Topping it off with the official excuse of a $2 adapter bleeding them dry in BoM and they've blown way past insulting to lost their fucking minds territory.

Agreed, do not buy the base models. The LE's really do not change the sales projection because a scalper will buy it anyways.
how much money do you actually save? and people who never owned a 3DS are gonna need to buy it anyway. it's actually a required accessory, dumbasses
I honestly do not see why the OS could not fit on a 2 GB card if they really wanted to save money. I call the PR BS for what it is: BS.

Yes without a doubt because Nintendo is so good at screwing up that I will never buy a new 3ds until it's affordable and because they are charging 200 dollars without a charger and 229 in Canada than I think they are really going to damage the lifetime sales of the new 3ds.

It's a mistake and they paid for it once hopefully they will fix it themselves but I honestly doubt they are smart enough to fix the price. It's as big of a mistake as releasing the original 3ds at 249.

Mine didn't come with any of those things.

This is a company that released a GBA revision requiring an adaptor to use headphones and didn't even include one in the box. They are experts at the add-on.

It doesn't matter if it's an extra 5, people have already made the mental jump to want to purchase it in the first place. Lets stop acting like the cord is that expense to make or would drive up the cost of this to an insane degree

charging 200 dollars for a device with a 240p screen in the year of our lord 2015 is insanity alone but i give nintendo credit with their innovation in the handheld space. first it was region-locking and now it's not including proprietary accessories needed for the system to function. trailblazers.

"Nintendo is saving me money"

lol! Holy hell. I just don't get it. These companies can do whatever the fuck they want and people not only take it, they say its good thing.

So do they sell the chargers/adapters separately now a days? Or do you have to buy those third party ones?

Pretty horrible for people who never owned a 3DS or were planning to get one for a chance like this.

"Because **** you, give me money" - Angry Joe.
No Nintendo fans can say any shit about PS Vita memory cards now.

If they truly cared, they would include a micoUSB port to charge stuff.

$10 charger does not = $35 to $75 mem cards, especially considering that N3ds comes with a micro SD. If you dont want an off brand than keep yours and just let gamestop put there charger with the system.

They're really good at classic misdirection though because they do this while people are to busy looking at Iwata holding bananas or Luigi Death Stare gifs to notice.

You reasoning is that they should have included it because people already wanted it? Is it an insane degree? Considering that is how much they official one costs, I don't think it is insane. I think it is a little bit crazy to assume that despite telling you the reason why they are not including it you assume them to be a liar and think are trying to cheat you out of the charger you feel entitled to have for free.

I can't believe how spoiled alot of GAFers are over a simple adaptor. In the GBC, GBA days, I recharged by switching batteries. I think Nintendo is trying save consumer costs, but still people will always moan and bitch over every little thing. Only in America, seriously. First it was adaptors, which are significantly cheap to buy nowadays and then it was the "regular size" 3DS, which market research dictates is selling probably Vita like numbers compared to the XL 3DS and than Nintendo discontinuing a "niche" product. As long as Nintendo satisfies the masses, they'll be fine. The niche consumers can go buy something else. Can't please everyone.

Well the 3DS is a device that you can't recharge by "switching batteries", because the battery is built in, so you have to recharge it. People are spoiled for wanting to recharge the battery on the $200 device they just purchased. Gotcha.

Meh. At first I was perplexed that they didn't include the AC adapter but the rest of the world seems okay with it. The people have spoken and they honestly don't care and neither do I. Sucks for those that do, but if I was Nintendo, I'd probably do the same thing.

On the bright side, I managed to snag a MM M3DS XL from best buy! Hopefully it arrives in a timely manner.

Not including a charger in the box is bullshit, it was bullshit with the original 3DS XL too.

I can't wait until the Next Wii comes out and they don't give me a power cable because I owned a Wii U, I guess I don't need my PS4 to come with a power cable too since I own a PS3?

Nintendo are scamming consumers with this move, unfortunately nintendo also have some of the most diehard fanboys around ready to justify every breath they take.

Bullshit. If Nintendo was trying to "save consumer costs", the New 3DS would be $190 without the adapter. Not $200 without. Not $210 with. Nintendo is cutting its own costs, despite its ludicrous explanation here.

But please: continue asserting that everyone should just spend the extra money, because you obviously don't mind doing so.

This thread is quite comical to keep reading.

You can switch out the battery actually... not even that hard.

Lol where and how did we get to the point where a power cord/adapter boxed with a electronic is now entitlement friend?

This really is hilarious. If it makes you all feel better, pretend the rrp of the console is $208 with charger included. If that's too much for what you're getting, don't buy it.

It's not about the money, it's about having a complete system in that box.

Would you be pissed if you bought a PS4 and it didn't come with a power cable? It's just a figure 8 cable so you already have a bunch!

When "it's less than $10 to buy an adapter, and if you can't afford $10 then you shouldn't be buying something like this." became an acceptable and popular response to an announcement that a company is no longer packing in a way to charge that $200 item you just bought.

The PS3 didn't come with an HDMI cable, I just picked one up for cheap at the time, I was okay with that. I probably wouldn't give a shit about a figure 8 cable to tell you the truth. But each to their own.

I purchased a new 3DS here in Japan and also bought a charger at the same time, so i guess that shows I don't care about this. Maybe I should care, but I can't...
If the whole package was too expensive I wouldn't have bought it.
