So, when will you all be at your Gamestop tomorrow to preorder this thing? My GS opens at 10am , so I'll be at mine 8-9am.

Won't be. Refuse to shop at GameStop. Plus heard from a Nintendo employee that GameStop pre-order quantity is severely reduced due to the relationship between Nintendo and GameStop is not on good terms. Wal-Mart threw money at Nintendo to get more quantity and this is first time they are doing a home console Pre-Order.

I personally will be attempting to pre-order from Best Buy website.

Hmm, twelve hours out. I feel like waiting any longer will be a little like cheating, what with the last minute flurry of rumours and possible really-really-true-we-swear-it-this-time leaks.

My bingo card. It's mostly stuff I think will happen peppered with a few (like Mass Effect and the alternate grips making an appearance) that I doubt will happen but really, really want to see. Many thanks to the person who made the template in DT1.

As always, if you didn't have time to make a card of your own, you're welcome to go to http://burner.camp/switchmas/ to create a new one then play it during the presentation (there's an edit mode and a play mode... hmm, maybe I should have called it Super Bingo Maker).

I think I am properly hyped now.

That's just it. SFII isn't important. We have SFIII, IV and V so why dwell on such an old SF now.

Also Disaea 5 is not happening either. They tried Disgaea on Nintendo systems with Disgaea DS and it flopped hard.

No. That's just flat out wrong.

There's a reason why tournaments of Street Fighter II are still hold 20 years after its release.

And that's a bad thing? Do all Switch games have to be standalone killer apps? That's massively unrealistic. We know people will mostly buy it for Mario and Zelda.

Wasn't saying that. I was saying that was the point the other person was making about it not being a big deal and the leaked list lacking any western third party system seller type games.

Discussions get muddled between two crowds in these threads on GAF. The hyped fanboys that just want to rave about why they're excited to play, and the industry obsessed types who are focused on sales and speculations what's going to move units or not.

Let's take a moment to think about the times they've "change" SF2's name versus the times they've just made small modifications

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior to SF2: Champion Edition introduced the ability for mirror matches and playing as the four bosses. A solid update.

Champion Edition to Turbo: Hyper Fighting introduced turbo speed and added/changed character specials. Significant change.

SF2 Turbo to Super SF2: The New Warriors introduced entirely new characters and updated visuals/audio. A significant update.

SSF2: The New Warriors to SSF2 Turbo added super moves, brought back turbo mode, and added in a superboss.

From there you get SSF2 Turbo X For Matchmaking Services, which is Super Turbo with online play. Online is a major change in and of itself, but the title is otherwise the same to reflect how it's still Super Turbo.

Then you get Super Turbo HD Remix. Everything is redrawn, the music is new, and there are definitely balance changes, but the name is still the same to reflect how it's still Super Turbo.

Hyper Street Fighter 2 brought about the first actual name change in a while, and that introduced the significant change of being able to select versions of characters that matched up to how they played in specific versions of the game and have them fight against versions of characters from other SF2 updates. A significant change.

If they are both changing it to "Ultra" and are introducing a new subtitle, there's something big happening here.

I haven’t posted in ages, but I’ve been keeping up with Switch news/rumors as much as possible. 12 hours to go! It’s finally here!

As far as this SF2 port(true or not) goes, if it’s an arcade perfect port of HF/TNC with additional fighters/stages, I would piss my pants with joy. An arcade perfect update of SF2 in the palm of my hands would be magic. I don’t care if the game is old as fuck. It’s still one of the best fighters ever made.

Overall, really excited for the event, especially Mario 3D. Bring it, Nintendo!

But how would they go about it? They can't use the SFV assets (Sony has a stake in those, though Capcom or Nintendo could pay Sony for the assets), & making new sprites is hella time-consuming. That plus Capcom's already juggling two fighting games that they're supporting (with SFV for sure being supported for the long-term).

Maybe if Capcom outsources this SFII release, I could see it happening. But I'm not sure if Capcom has the spare manpower to do a Hyper SFII in-house.
Making new sprites for SF2 wouldn't be costly at all, the game actually has very few animation frames, which is why HD Remix exists and it wasn't some massively expensive project. But what's more, I don't think they're touching the art at all. This wouldn't be the first anniversary edition of SF2.

Sony made a huge deal of ressurecting Windjammers on PS4 and PSVita (and they were fucking right to do so), what's the deal with a way more important title such as Street Fighter II ?

Windjammers isn't the biggest third party game coming to PS4 though. It's a bonus.

Switch is just as much a console as it is a handheld, so I'm a little confused why some use the handheld part as an argument against bringing online only games to the system.

In fact, LAN should be a thing as well, since it's a handheld too, but I guess that would require extra effort. When looking at Monster Hunter, in Japan particularly, they seem to prefer local LAN over internet play.

The argument is moot when Dragon Quest X is coming to the system. That's an MMO. So that argument about whether the game has to be played online only doesn't mean anything.

Its too big for Japan. They will reject the Switch as a portable in favor of their phones or 3DS.

Deal Sealer: Zelda or Mario or Mario Kart w/ MK64's Battle Mode at launch
Deal Breaker: No Zelda. No Mario. No Mario Kart w/Battle Mode at launch

I won't lie, an arcade-perfect port of SFII would be pretty lit. Maybe throw in SFIII:3S - Online Edition while you're at it, Capcom.

It's a shame that SFV is locked down to PS4 as far as consoles go. I'd love to get some lab time in on the go. Maybe MvCI could be Switch-bound.
