Nintendo Switch is out in less than two weeks. Where's all the info?

I'm not expecting to hear anything directly from Nintendo now. It'll all be discovered by previews, reviews and early adopters. Anyone looking to pre-order has done so.

They're approaching this launch like Elmer Fudd sneaking up on Bugs Bunny.

Maybe obvious answer, but you don't specifically need the dock to output to a TV? It's just a piece of plastic forwarding ports, right?

Reason I ask is, it's kinda clunky to carry around in comparison to just a cable when you're visiting friends and family.

I think VC will still be a thing, I just think it will be labelled differently. There has been too much smoke regarding GameCube games coming to Switch for it not to be in the works.

The thing is, we know that the eShop is currently unable until a certain update (as per Hiphoptherobot's video), so we don't currently know if the previews will be able to provide us info on the exact workings of the eShop. That's already one feature that might not be cleared up by previews, let alone VC of course, which, as Duckroll validly stated, should not be a guarantee for launch, but just some clarity on all those topics would be nice.

I'm just interested in the VC and online. I don't think we will hear about either before release but...

I'm not so sure either will be ready at release. Would explain why Nintendo's been almost completely silent on the subject.

This whole thing seems like a very rushed launch and I'm not entirely sure why. If they're not ready why not just push the whole thing back to the holidays and launch with more than 1 major game? The Wii U's not getting any deader.

Nintendo always say there won't be a post-launch drought, but unless they have a bunch of unannounced games coming out in the next 6 months this sounds like it might actually be one of the worst they've had. I just don't understand it.

I'm sure Switch will grow into a great platform, *at least* as good as Wii U and I don't regret my Wii U purchase, but this doesn't seem like they're off to a very good start in terms of rectifying the mistakes of the past.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Arms
Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Xenoblade 2
Mario Odyssey

all in the first 9-10 months after the console launches, and to say nothing of unannounced games, is not a drought.

How online will work, how much it costs, if it is actually working from day 1...

edit: don't get me wrong. I have the console on preorder and am actually looking forward to the release.

??????

It will work with basic matchmaking, no voice chat, no charge. The err... "extra" stuff comes later. Much later.

Anyone know if the USB lan adapter will be compatible with the switch dock? Or is the tablet just wifi?

There is in fact already a Hori lan adapter for the Switch dock. They do work, but I can't say with 100% certainty if any and all LAN adapters are compatible (though I see no reason why not, since the Hori one does not look proprietary).
Will we be able to walk in a store and buy a Switch on day 1 in certain areas? Or did every Switch in this batch get pre ordered?
Gamestop came out and said yesterday that they have a limited supply of Switch consoles available in store at launch. I imagine it'll be the same for other retailers. It might be hard, depending on where you live, to get one if they truly are limited, though.

Assuming the last three don't get delayed.

Well, Super Mario Odyssey is already just about done according to Koizumi, so that's one less to worry about. The other also have western 2017 release dates, so the only reason you can have to doubt them is "lol Nintendo", in the same way we can say "lol Squeenix" and "lol Sony". You can adhere to that philosophy, but for me it is too cynical.

Indeed, but as I said, these things will be covered by previews, reviews and early adopters. What's missing from one will be discovered / covered by the next.

Nintendo's messaging, outside of glossy ads, has been quite poor. It seems clear that a lot of systems for this console are still in development, so it makes more sense to wait until they can impart solid info, and keep quiet in the mean time, as it'd only worsen the look of the launch if they compounded just how much isn't ready for it.

A Direct that said "eShop in the summer, voice chat through app we can't show you, paid online for the holidays, VC please wait for further info etc." would get the wrong kind of coverage in my opinion. They've worked hard just to scrabble together a pretty bare launch line-up, and gain some momentum by actually releasing it this financial year. Everything else is secondary right now, and I doubt they'll lose many - if any - pre-orders because of it.

Thanks! Shoppers Drug Mart here in Canada seems like a safe bet to have some without any stress in that case

Unless you're a loyal Nintendo consumer and played MarioKart 8 to death, then you're looking at a post-Zelda drought of 3 months, at least.

I'll be buying a Switch at launch, but I've no interest in ARMS, that Musuo Fire Emblem game, or Spl2n.

And I love the Xeboblade series, but there's no way it hits 2017 unless it's a collaborative effort between all the Nintendo studios that have been doing absolutely nothing the past three years.

Dock is proprietary and necessary for output to TV.

They don't need to give any more info before release (it's sold out) so they won't.

You'd have thought they thought it important to get BOTW for the Wii U over the last year or two as well. ;)
If it came out on the Wii U last year, they'd have nothing for Switch. Makes no sense.

What you know is what you get and what you don't know is what you don't get. Virtual Console probably won't hit until the paid online service. I am curious to know if it's possible to change to another region's eShop since it is region free.

It's still a little crazy to me we haven't heard anything about VC. Is next week going to roll around and with the regular e-Shop update we'll see a load of Switch titles listed, or is there going to be a last minute Direct, or just nothing at all? I kind of feel the media has let us down not pushing Nintendo on this aspect further. VC seemed the perfect antidote to a sparse launch line up, and if the rumours of them discontinuing the NES Classic are true, surely promoting the Switch VC would make a lot of sense (sure, a high-end priced solution isn't going to be for everyone who missed out, but there's a lot more product and surely a lot more content to come). Nintendo's Virtual Console always needed more promotion, hopefully the boom in the NES Classic will make them think twice and look into doing that.

I think it's fair to be skeptical of delays on that great looking first year lineup. Remember the Wii U? Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 in "launch window" my ass... Promised before the end of March, didn't release until Summer.

If the current list materializes as currently promised, it will be a fantastic first year. But let's not forget that the Wii U appeared to have a fairly solid opening at first too until the delays kicked in.

To be fair, when has a Nintendo home console failed to have its own exclusive Zelda?

Whilst I agree it's unlikely Mario will be delayed, you can't blame people for fearing the worst.

I mean, the two things are completely unrelated. The Wii U being a failure from which Nintendo internally distanced itself quite early in its lifetime has no bearing whatsoever on the Switch, and therefore assuming Super Mario Odyssey will be delayed is extremely random, especially with Koizumi saying the game is all but complete already.

Show me a more powerful portable system please

Underpowered is such a childish phrase at this point. It is less powerful than the main competition, but it offers features not one competitor came up with.

I remember the PSP being oh so more powerful than the DS. But the different kind of bells and whistles made the DS the much better plattform.

But anyway, that discussion is a different thread.

Zelda has a history of delays. 3D Mario does not. The opposite, actually. If there is a deadline, Mario will hit that.

The DS was absolutely not a much better platform than the PSP.

It has a bearing in as much as proving that what has happened before isn't always the greatest indicator as to what will happen.

I agree, but even with delays, there's not been a Nintendo home console without its own exclusive Zelda game. As per above, the point was that what's come before won't always be the case.

One of the best DS games is getting a sort of compromised PS4 port soon. It's still not perfect because the DS has an edge over the PS4 in a few aspects. Can't say that about the PSP!
Wouldn't call 999 one of the best DS games myself. Having to replay puzzles every time you go for different endings was such poor design.

So you're just a lunatic.
Anyone who thinks having to replay puzzles over and over and over again when going for different endings in a game like this is good design is a lunatic. That's my only major issue with the game, but it's a big one and seriously hurts the game. I really don't see how any sane person could possibly deny that. It's just a question of how much patience you have to put up with it.

Thankfully they're fixing this in the new release.

Fucking 300$ for an underpowered system with no games.
That's all the info i need

Just like ps4 on launch? PC already was way ahead when that released. And PS4 got good after Bloodborne and other first party games started coming out, launch was terrible.

Now let me make one thing clear the Switch launch is not good at all and is pretty bad if you don't like Zelda. But near holidays there will be quite a bit of good games already for a first year of a gaming hardwares lifespan.

Sure it is. The 3DS had Mario Kart, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, Mario 3DS (known as Mario 3D Land now), Star Fox 64, Resident Evil, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario, Professor Layton, and some other ones I'm probably forgetting announced at launch.

Some of those were expected the same year as the 3DS and the system still experienced a drought. The Switch in comparison, doesn't seem to have much. And the 3DS launch had a better launch lineup than Switch so far from what it looks like (other than Zelda of course)

Also, thanks for the heads up everyone! I figured a lot of those had answers to them but still, the messaging has been pretty barebones judging by the other responses in this thread.
