They also have more memory, 4x the screen resolution, better batteries, more utility, and a larger library of games and applications.

The games don't run at high native resolutions, you don't get good battery life with most demanding games, the larger library of games is mostly obnoxious garbage - and certainly no exclusives on par with Zelda or Mario.

We all expect it to be 250 with a game by its first Christmas, right? I waited a year for Wii u and saved over 100 bucks, maybe 150. It will be the same here.

This is my plan right now. I'm hoping that by Black Friday I can pick up a bundle with Zelda and / or Mario for $300 or so and then hopefully the price of the Pro controller has dropped some too.

Lastly, the quick turnaround from reveal to launch could bite them in the ass because they can't adjust based on consumer reaction to this like Microsoft did with XB1.
It wouldn't matter. If Nintendo was at all paying attention, they would have already known this would have been the reaction. It's not like people have been quiet about expressing their concerns about the Switch. It looks like the Switch will hit every single one of those concerns.

Nintendo usually has a pack in deal for the holiday so it's probably a good deal even at $299 if you were planning to get those games anyway.

What a terrrrrible presentation. I know we've been saying it for awhile but Nintendo has completely lost touch. I'll be buying BotW on Wii U.

Thanks for saving me typing up my thoughts but I'd add three things:
The paid online is a killer. Could add 200 dollars to the life of the system and is totally unexpected. Way more meaningful to me than the jump from 250 to 300 and the single worst news that could have come out of the conference.

At least it is launching with a killer app in Zelda. That makes a difference, despite the weak launch.

Lastly, the quick turnaround from reveal to launch could bite them in the ass because they can't adjust based on consumer reaction to this like Microsoft did with XB1.

Very worried.

Not to mention that both Sony and Microsoft proved out their online before charging for it. Xbox Live became the standard by which all other services were measured. The PS4's online fixed all of the PS3s issues and the added benefit of Playstation Plus (which was already available on PS3) provided an incredible value proposition.

Nintendo has never done online well (look at how broken Splatoon was in terms of its online UX when it first launched) and now it wants consumers to pay for something that they haven't even proved out yet? Sure, there's a demo period, but it looks like most of the expected online features (like voice chat) won't arrive until fall. Let's think about that for a moment. It's 2016 and Nintendo still won't have voice chat at launch. And they want to run a paid online gaming service?

People scoffing at the Wii U ports must be forgetting that almost no one owns a Wii U. MK8 might as well be a new game.

This seems to have borne out with Super Mario Maker 3DS, at least in Japan.

I'll be passing on MK8 Deluxe but I can see the portability giving it a big push, and the game itself moving systems, for those who skipped the Wii U.

I've been saying for months, it's going to come down to the launch games and the price.

This launch lineup is just sad. I see people comparing it to the PS4 launch lineup, which was also sad, but I say, look at what the PS4 was competing against: the XB1 which had also JUST launched, the Wii U with its perpetual droughts, and the older, tired, PS3 and 360. The time was right for a new console, and at $100 less than the XB1, of course the PS4 was going to sell, even if the launch games were ho-hum.

The Switch's launch lineup has to compete against the CURRENT PS4/XB1 lineups, not the LAUNCH PS4/XB1 lineups, so that comparison is meaningless. And if you were wondering, it's not a favorable comparison.

The year one outlook isn't so great either. I see Zelda and Mario, okay, good. Then I see the Wii U ports, I see some niche games, I see Skyrim, I see some sports games, I see some indies, and I don't see much else. These launch games needed to kick all kinds of ass. I was hoping to hear about DOZENS of games during this presentation, all of which would make me salivate. That's not what I got, and I'm disappointed.

Okay, so about the price. My previous feelings could be summed up as "They need to compete with the current market. $199 = great, $249 = okay, $299 = DOA." After watching the entire presentation and looking at more details, it's even worse than I expected. We're being asked to pay $299, plus:

- NO pack-in game. None.
- Separate MicroSD card purchase pretty much required, as 32 GB is only going to go so far
- $70 if you want the Pro controller
- $80 if you want another set of JoyCons
- online multiplayer will not be free beyond Fall 2017

I can't believe my eyes. I was really hoping Nintendo would learn from the market reception of Wii U, and really compete on price. This is just...I don't even know what this is. I'm sad, and frustrated, and wondering if this is a bad dream.

I would say something else, but I don't really know what to say, beyond the obvious: I won't be pre-ordering.
This thing is a flop in the making. I honestly don't know they're thinking with this. It's fucking mindboggling.

So because the system is $50 more than the expected price, Nintendo it's doomed to third party? Okay, GAF.......

Honestly, at $250, it probably woudl of been a tough sell after the Wii U. If the Switch doesn't succeed, then Nintendo could be in trouble because I do not know how many gamers will give Nintendo yet another chance to prove themselves. I mean look below:

Same if not more expensive than a much more powerful and capable PS4 or XBox One.
Same price as PS4 Pro in some regions if I am hearing that correctly. Scorpio? Who knows?
32 GB of memory again.
Underpowered specs again.
Lackluster looking launch.
Expensive accessories.
No pack in while the competition gives you a good pack in.
Lack of third parties again.
Online paywall.
High possibility of droughts again.
Basic or unproven online infrastructure?
PS4 and XBox One have hundreds of solid to great games available NOW for a comparable or cheaper price of admission.

Also, what is this I am hearing about it being comparable to the Wii U power-wise. Underpowered? Ok. I thought it was supposed to be noticeably more powerful than Wii U or was that just rumors? Seriously, besides Nintendo games, why should anyone buy this over an XBox One, PS4 or even the PS4 Pro? Nintendo, what are you doing? Have you not learned anything?

Curious to see what happens to monster hunter now. If this system doesn't do well and the 3ds is no longer supported, will this finally be the thing that pushes capcom to move the game to the ps4?

The best part is that right now it's completely unclear as to whether those extra services, like voice chat, even run through the Switch itself. The documentation provided thus far is talking about a smartphone app for this stuff lol.

For those that don't already know, here are the Canadian MSRPs according to Nintendo:
http://www.nintendo.com/en_CA/switch/buy-now/?platform=hootsuite

$400 for the console is already crazy -- I bought my PS4 launch day here for that, before they raised the price -- but $100 for a full Joy Con set? $65 for (essentially) half a controller!?

Wow.

Just... wow.

This isn't true, as Xbox Live was a paid service from day one.

DO we know if your game saves can go onto the internal storage or SD card, or are they stuck on the game cart? I really hope my game saves can live on my SD card, so my partner and I can share games.

$300 for a system that can't even compete graphically with the Xbox one, with a RIDICULOUS online system. They MUST be joking.

My biggest gripe with the switch isn't the price, nor the controllers, nor the hardware, nor the resolution, nor the paid online (if i play multiplayer, it's local)

It's actually the fact that it wants me to put it on top of my TV / media shelf.
The "vertically inserted dock" thing makes you unable to just shove it into any compartment that would usually fit any regular console.

I'm likely gonna day 1 it anyways, because i make enough money and i'm a dumb sucker for nintendo games. Still, it's annoying. :/

If those Wii U games couldn't sell the Wii U then why would they sell a Switch...?

This is a bad question to even consider imo because true system sellers are rare in the entire industry. Far more important is the comparison to GTA V.
Arguably, this and Minecraft are the best selling games of this and the past generation, consistently featuring in sales Top 10. Mario Kart 8 would definitely sell another 5 million on the Switch, possibly far more if Mario Kart 9 comes later and/or GAF horribly underestimates Switch sales in the coming months.

Competition will be unkind to this launch. ME:Andromeda is launching that month, and I'm sure there will be a few cheeky deals scheduled for the PS4/X1 at various retailers to try to tilt Ninty on the launch. E3 will be a bloodbath; Sony's a bit wild there, but MS at least is for sure going to be all over Scorpio stuff (which will drive down the price of the X1S, a much more feature-rich console that will be cheaper). Switch isn't going to get a ton of wiggle room on the market to itself; at best I think it'll get April and most of May (up to pre-E3 announcements and leaks) before it goes red ocean on them.

It's not a good place to be in regardless of past performance (specifically the Wii U).

Thinking I will get this next holiday at the earliest. I usually jump into new Nintendo systems once a big Mario game comes out. Will play Zelda on the wii u till then. Hope E3 shows off a ton of games.

I forgot that Nintendo is run by a bunch of old men who are so out of touch with today's audience. I highly doubt the Switch is going to sell well, not until the holidays if theres a price drop.
