Nintendo is really good at reusing assets. I expected this.
I expect more physics based platforming in the next Mario as well.

Or maybe they're the most cost effective developer in the world.

I actually had the suspicious feeling here that Zelda is actually using XenoX modified engine here.
The fact that it still shows the same pop out problem, feels that way.

Now toss that idea in with a CPU 4-5x as fast as Wii U's and a GPU at least 2x as fast (since GPGPU was certainly being used).

Of course he is. This completely destroyed his plans, and most likely Nintendo is currently trying to decide if they should move forward at the risk of being a loss leader, or if they should make additional cuts to the hardware to become profitable again. They could just raise the price, but looking at Wii U I don't think they'd want to.
This is probably going to affect Neo's price as well. $450 is likely now, I'd say.

I wonder how GAF will feel after NX gimmick reveal
I think Miyamoto over did the fear of being copied excuse
I don't think Sony and Microsoft really cares, they are already deep into trying to boost their hardware specs for VR and 4K I doubt they are just going to add Nintendo's new thing to the mix. Unless Nintendo is worried about a newer challenger entering the market copying something that has not even been proven as a successful fad.
I guess saying our much weaker hardware is not ready yet, we are trying to find a cheap safe way to add VR to it without the pornz. Would not play well
A5. Kimishima: I think we're still working to resolve the initial challenges with smart devices. We'll have 5 titles by March.
Shinya Takahashi: There are certainly physical controllers for smart devices, but Nintendo wants to make action games w/out them.
Ah, thats right. So its likely not any of the patents now that I think about it.For which they apparently have no intellectual property protection to prevent replication.
The bit about them planning to release 5 smart phone games up until March is interesting.

Barely any info on any of them yet, even with E3 just passing but suddenly there's going to be a sort of flood of them from now to March?
The NX was also absent from E3, with a planned March release...
This sounds very related to me.
There was also the statement about these smartphone games not needing a controller though...

Obviously the NX will have at least a normal-ish controller for Zelda, but those rumours about them tying everything together to make development on multiple devices easy sounds even more like it may be correct (if not obvious for home/handheld consoles), but may now also include smartphone development.
Nintendo is going to release the NX as a mystery box I guess.
The fear of imitators thing is dumb as fuck. Not only has every Sony/MS copy of Nintendo outright failed (PS Move/Invizimals/those dumb Xbox avatars), but it's not like they would have even delayed the "copy" that long.

The 5 smartphone games by March 2017 has been the plan since we first got real details about the mobile initiative (Destructoid article from July 2015). We know Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are releasing this year, so I'm guessing we'll see at least one of the remaining two in February or March 2017 (could tie into an NX game via My Nintendo) and the other in late 2016 or early 2017.
It wont be dumb or smart until we see it. Sony or MS not their only competitors anymore. Anyone could steal the idea. Any tablet, console, chromecast, streaming device can borrow the idea or whatever. The fear of imitators thing is dumb as fuck. Yeah, I just found it interesting that 1. Both are "ready for March" and 2. Both have yet to be revealed properly even though we've just had E3 and not loads of time left.
Then again, March being the end of the fiscal year could also be a big player I guess.

I'm not sure why it's dumb. From where Nintendo stands in terms of market position, I can see why they'd want to protect what they perceive as a novel market differentiator. Especially if whatever it is can be reverse engineered without the need to license Nintendo proprietary technology. Gaining a window of exclusivity by coming to market with whatever tech this is first could make or break the NX.
Sounds like Miyamoto just trashed PlayStation VR. I assume the redacted part is him telling shareholders that Nintendo would never release such a half-baked product.
Well just consider both excuses. Its not impossible. Besides this miyamoto excuse was already said before by Iwata. Not sure why yall acting like its new.True. But then again, I prefered Kimishima's excuse related to games. NX show being delayed for a gimmick better means it's a good gimmick.
It wont. There's no more gimmick making that possible. Unless it's another natural transition from controls such as Wiimote or Touchscreen.
But what will make or break NX will be the first unveil and the games.
No, Cheesemeister translated it a different way

"@NStyles Miyamoto: Normally we would've shown the #NX at #E3, but we didn't. We're worried about imitators if we release info too early."
That's certainly part of it, but Nintendo's strategy is laser focused on creating things that differentiate them from competitors. The Blue Ocean strategy seems hard coded into their DNA now, and it's all about market disruption and cost control. I also find it kind of odd that so many people are dismissing the idea of another innovation out of hand. It seems people have come to this conclusion because our collective GAF Brainpower can't imagine another successful out of the box concept. Nintendo may very well have thought of something that we haven't.
It doesn't have to be some convoluted control innovation either. It might just be some other way of adding value that we aren't thinking of.
Miyamoto says this every console cycle.
Wait, i just remembered.
There are supposed to be 4 mobile games out by March right?
And we've had miitomo.
Fire emblem and animal crossing were next?
Hm, wonder when they'll be announced and stuff
Pokemon Go should be due soon. Aside from that Maybe a Temple Run clone staring Zelda Characters. It worked well for square enix and Lara croft

The blue ocean will happen with a distinct, different and wealthy ecosystem of games. Basically Nintendo will have to make up for the total lack of western AAA 3rd party publisher support by offering an amazing 1st party offering and 3rd party partnership.
Not with a different controller.
Miyamoto says this every console cycle.
The controller isn't the only part of the experience that could be subject to innovation.
Compelling software is a given. Wii U Software output was generally excellent, they just needed more of it at regular intervals. The third party partnerships they entered into also delivered some memorable games, and it seems like they are keen on using their IP that way in the future. The biggest question remaining is if their internal restructuring can resolve the issue with software droughts. I'm guessing their hope is that Zelda will drive the initial install base of NX so that third parties can join the platform with a level of confidence.
