And it's a herbivore

From Sean Murray on the Pre-order ship issue:

It has been reported that using the pre-order bonus ship will leave some players stranded, if they purchase or transfer to a new ship that does not have a hyperdrive (if done very early in game). In most cases the player is actually able to continue (107 of the 135 reports emailed so far). The game already detects the player needs a hyperdrive and directs them to a nearby NPC who will give the player the hyperdrive they need. Some other players were able to resolve this issue by restarting their console.

Finally landed on a planet that made me go wow. Red grass, blue water, green sky and massive emeril deposits.

Is there some way to fully turn off the HUD?

I think it's a bit weird that I haven't seen anyone mention this, maybe it's just gotten drowned out in the midst of "bigger things" to discuss, but...

Is anyone else finding the controls ridiculously clunky? It's the limiting factor for how much time I can put into it, I just get frustrated and quit after a while,

  • It has a lot of game-induced input lag.
  • The crosshair magnetism is super-annoying and unhelpful and makes me wish I could just disable it.
  • Disregarding the general input-lag, the multitool takes like half a second to fire after actually pushing the button.
  • The fact that all interactions require holding the button makes it feel super-sluggish.

All of it just feels extremely unresponsive and it makes me frustrated.

Honestly, none of this has been a problem for me. I did whack the sensitivity up 100 straight away though. I haven't experienced/noticed the other issues tbh.

So I have to say my big complaint about this game is getting back to old systems. You should be able to just cycle between them. You can't though. Luckily I figured out a way too. Scan for nearest discoveries then set waypoints to them. Then it will create a path for you. Needless to say this is a bit cumbersome.

Still love the game in spite of this though.

Anybody else love the sci-fi book references of all the trophies. As a massive sci-fi nerd across mediums, I was pleased to see Use of Weapons, Foundation, Star Beast, and pretty much all the rest of them. A lot of the game is an homage to "feeling" of mystery and expanse of classic sci-fi....

If you ignore the lack of story, discussion on philosophical issues etc.

Still, game has lived up to the hype I set for it. Everything I wanted

Is there some tick to getting more inventory space? When the primary game loop is resource gathering, constantly being out of space kinda kills it.

Went back to my starting planet and finally found one of those huge outposts we saw in the trailers with the multiple landing pads. Pretty cool. I'm trying to 100% it before I leave the system but I can't find the rest of the damn creatures. Might just give up soon and warp out. At least I found a pillar of gold that was probably 80 feet tall.

I have to say, without having paid the game (waiting for the PC release), the obvious lack of variety in animal species and the sheer impossibility of some of them is really disappointing.

I didn't really start resource gathering until I'd upgraded my inventory a bit. Mostly just sold everything and didn't worry about collecting.

When I started mining I did so near a trade outpost so I could just collect and sell.

I keep getting awesome blueprints and it says I already know them and I dont have them and they dont show up in my blueprint book. What the fuck is going on? Before I got blueprints for a megadrive tau engine and that happened. Now I got blueprints for some crazy pulse drive with a wierd name and now its saying I already have it but I fucking dont! Aaahhhhrrrghghh!

The games's buggy, had to start over a few times due to weird bugs. Sometimes reloading a save fixes a few issues.

What do you mean impossibility....?

It could totally happen :p

Why is everyone still complaining about not being able to meet another player???.......YOU CAN'T!!!.....done.....that should be the end of it......Can you not play a game on your own for once? Im sure there are other games that allow you to meet someone in the game world.....this one doesn't.....move on!!

Except Sean is still saying that you can.

We added a 'scan for other players' in the Galactic Map to try to encourage this happening. We wanted it to happen - but the first day?

We want people to be aware they are in a shared universe. We added online features, and some Easter Eggs to create cool moments

We hope to see those happening... but too many of you are playing right now. More than we could have predicted

Ok, but how do I upgrade my inventory space?

Going to be a long day at work tomorrow :(

Got enough fuel for two system jumps which takes me to the next Atlas Interface but going to explore those systems first.

I think I put in at least 6 hours a day since release. Not bad.

Loving the game. Wanted to share some things I just realized today.

  • resources stack to a maximum of 250 per slot in exosuit inventory, 500 per slot in starship inventory
  • The "pin formula" option for crafting keeps track of what and how many resources are needed to complete it.
  • be careful fighting pirates close to a space station. Managed to kill the pirates, but a stray shot had angered the space station and I was decimated.
  • Recharging your deflector shield mid combat is possible and has saved me many times

Happy exploring.

It's not even funny... Just stupid :(

Lol, the game throws up stupid stuff sometimes. But awesome stuff too. There are dark planets full of nightmarish creations, and others that are just pure comedy.

This guy was fresh from the planet of fucked up dinosaurs, along with the Bunnysaurus Rex I posted earlier.

Anyone know if there is a difference between following the plotted line to the center vs using free mode? My max jump distance is like 3 times farther than the last point that is plotted in the line.

*Finally* found a planet that doesn't want to kill me so I can actually explore in peace!

The survival aspect was starting to grate to the point that I was spending far more time in space mining asteroids for a small turnover instead.

Time to start saving for a new ship, this starter banger is showing it's age.

This game reminds me of Captain Blood.

I realise I might be showing my age, and that is a very niche game on the Atari ST, but they are so similar. Captain blood was a space travel game, with about 30,000 planets, where you had to communicate in crazy language with random aliens while travelling around. It was baffling, and the technical achievements seemed amazing at the time. Also, it could be a bit boring.

I wonder if the developers were aware of it.

Things i did today:

- Got the recipe to create the Suspension Fluid (and finally be able to create Warp Cells from scratch)
- Found a crashed ship and move all my stuff to it (Bye first Ship, I will always remember you)
- Won my first space battle vs 3 Ships
- Landed in a planet with low sentinel presence
- Landed in a planet with aggressive sentinel presence
- Learn that there's also a "Storm" weather (that looks beautiful)

Now, i just need my damn AtlasPass and learn how to upgrade the Hyperdrive and i'll be set to travel to the center of the galaxy.

Just had a 6 hour binge session. Yikes. Gonna be tired at work tomorrow.

Finally got enough money to replace my ship. Like a sucker, I bought the first one I saw. That said, 22 slots for 900k when it came with useful upgrades like photon beam power & cooldown seemed really good so I didn't want to see him fly off.

I'm on a planet with low sentinel activity that is absolutely covered in gold, so making money isn't too much of an issue right now.

What is an issue is that I've been on this planet for multiple hours with just one more animal left to find and no idea of how to find it. I think it might be a bird that flies off every time I land in an area.

Any tips for hunting down the last animals? Do certain animals appear exclusively in caves? Because I haven't checked there.

It's also really frustrating when you see a red dot on an animal indicating it's new, only to scan it and be told it's part of the same species. I'm not really sure how the species classification works in this game. Sometimes exceptionally similar animals are different species with similar names, sometimes very different animals appear to be classified as the same species.

Anyone know how to get rid of the white dot waypoint thing?

No I don't - I really wish I had more control over the HUD. Seconding this request.

So I logged in and my ship is nowhere near me and the way point says it's 10 minutes away straight above me... restarting the game and reloading my save changes nothing... how fucked am I?

I don't own the game, but I'm interested to know if anyone has come across anything (e.g. a planet or an animal species) that was previously discovered by another player?

So I'm feeling like the flora is already getting a bit samey only about twelve-fifteen planets in. The fauna remains fairly amusing thanks to weird combos, but the flora is a different story.

The highlight of my last two hour session was finally landing on a planet that had basically no life on it. Most interesting planet yet.

Good... I think. For crafting Dragon Age: Inquisition is about the most I can handle. And don't even get me started on Skyrim or Black Desert Online. Hopefully not too casual tho, I don't want another Spore.

Most of the crafting is just gathering the resources you need to upgrade a bit of tech.

The game mechanics in this are essentially there to keep you moving round and exploring, they're fairly light.
