No Man's Sky |OT2| Maths Effect

Still haven't assembled the grenade attachment. Just found a new section of the cave hopefully there is a way out somewhere around here.

When I lose my bearings in a cave, the first thing I do is find the direction of my ship using its HUD icon. At least you'll have a general direction to walk in, assuming the cave entrance was somewhat near your ship.

What I'm noticing is that you get that slight judder when you save at the save spots. Apparently that usually indicates that a save hasn't worked on the latest patch. Not 100% sure though. I just make sure my last save is with my ship and that seems to work.

That judder has been there since day 1 for those outpost save pylons. They must be doing file I/O on the main thread or something, bad programmers!

For the ones wondering where to get the Atlas v2 and v3 pass, just keep visiting the Specialist Polo in Space Anomalys when u find them. (same NPC that gives you the v1 pass.)

If you complete the Specialist Polo data requests, he will eventually give you a V2 pass and later a v3. Just got all the passes now. :)
His data requests consist in having a high rank on the milestones list. For example when i got the v3 pass blueprint he requested me to have a rank 8 on extreme survivalist milestone. So you have them at least at rank 8 your good to get all the passes this way.

I know you can also find them on Operation Centers from planets, but they are a very rare drop.

To add to the ressource gathering here, I like to be a bad person from time to time and shoot up some frighters. They drop alot of Iridium, Titanium, Iron and Copper. (Titanium is nice to keep your Resistances up on the Exo-Suit and the Ship-Shields charged.)

Also, if youre quick enough you can outrun the Frighters defense-lasers and just deal with that one Sentinel-Ship that follows you and right after you destroyed it you can actually use the pulsedrive to escape the next wave what would arrive to hunt you down.

I just checked the steam charts for this game... wow that is a significant drop in players since launch

CqRFhpDVUAAnnKT.jpg:large

Not surprising really. It's a decent game, but it's already run it's course for me. Not a game I can really invest hundreds of hours in, like I was hoping.

I went straight from a v1 to a v3. Once you get a v3 there's no need for the v2.

What's strange is the v3 doesn't open those canisters on planets, you still need a v1 for that. Probably a bug.

As much as the history of this game annoys me, there is just something that keeps pulling me back to it.
I know there is so much that disappoints but the feeling of landing on a planet and going walk about is just unparalleled for me.
I really, really hope the team behind this game are not discouraged and continue to work on it for a very long time.

I recently got the V2 and it's completely underwhelming with what is locked behind those doors.

I scanned a bird finally so my planet is now 100%. However, the Milestone hasn't appeared... Do I need to leave the planet first?

No, you just need to cash out that 100% button.

It also works on planets with no fauna (its already at 100%) you can click there for the milestone even if dont give u any cash.

I think they removed this. On planets with no fauna that page is just blank with nowhere to upload for the 100% credit.

Or my particular game is just bugged.

What kind of progression does the game have after jumping half a dozen galaxies?

Do you always see the same buildings, destination and things on planets & its just the ambient life that differs (plants and animals)?

I think the game does an amazing job of creating alien worlds (and I love the music) so I dont regret buying the game, but I tend to be just floating around -- seeing the green unknown sign, landing, grabbing items/resources then repeat.

After doing this for hours and hours I'm pretty bored of that loop, especially because I dont do many upgrades because they take up inventory slots which drive me crazy.

No Man's Sky |OT3| Blueprint for OT already known

Seriously, since I hit hour 20 I think I have a 5% rate of getting blueprints that I don't already have.

One quick spoilery question I'm curious about. Atlas path, center of the universe, etc. If I see one path to its end, do you have an opportunity to then see the rest of the paths, or is it a "point of no return" kind of situation?

Nothing changes. You get the same asteroids around the planets. The same sentinels, hostile craft, etc. The same NPCs in identical bases, outposts, etc. The constant game crashes haven't been fixed. My game just chrashed a minute ago and I think I'm done with this game. I hate sounding bitter and jaded but this game is a bill of goods.

Cool thing i wish they add in the future, would be ship building. Could be the same styles and body parts that are already in the game.

Right now im on a quest to serach for the perfect looking ship for me, but thers always something wrong with the ones i like, sometimes i find the perfect model with horrible colours, other times i find amazing paintjobs in models i dont want. :(

I'd take ship building and ship customization over base building.

Game feels like a really impressive early access game to me. Has so much potential, the technology creating the planets and how varied they are (including the animals and plants) is incredibly impressive. I'd so love this tech used to make an RPG, like an open world/universe mass effect style game. Reminds me a little of that Ratchet game that had you fly a spaceship and land on planets.

I think I'm missing some tech blueprints. Nothing I have seems to require rare alloys. I can make Lemmium, but can't do anything but sell it.

Can anyone confirm?

Just for selling it. Unless those materials will be required for the base building and or other things that might come in the future.

That's the game.

Base building would be cool if:

1. There were a lot less of the normal structures you'd find on a planet. There are far too many, in close proximity, as it is.

2. Other players could find, see and use your old bases. That way they'd actually serve a purpose after you left for pastures new.

3. There was a lot of variation in what you could build. If they look exactly like the buildings already littering the planet then I don't really see a point. Same goes for if they only serve the same purpose.

Also I'm probably on my own here but... I like the current inventory setup. The only thing I would change is the ability to dismantle everything, including jetpack, pulse drive, etc.
The early game is made more challenging by having to decide whether to upgrade your suit/ship or carry cargo.

This challenge is something the later stages of the game is missing.

Yeah, it is unparalleled. It's the same sort of feeling you get exploring new places in most regular open world games (to some degree), except with even more variety, arguably.

Look at a game like Witcher 3. Real talk, it's just a bunch of copy pasted trees and hills, yet people still loved going for horse rides in its mostly useless world. NMS has a huge variety of terrain features with unlimited beautiful vistas.

So the bad news is I fell through the planet surface while mining a particularly glitchy formation of emeril, and couldn't get back up. I tried the "grenade your way back to solid ground" trick but I think that only works if you do it from the "hole" you fell into; trying to blast my way through the ground elsewhere still wouldn't allow me back up.

The good news is, I actually managed to play for more than five minutes at a time! Looks like patch 3 went out this morning-ish, because last night was awful but today was mostly trouble-free. I managed to play long enough to get the framerate slowdown bug, even (which usually hits me about four hours into a session). Progress!

Sure. I mean I've spent about 50 hours on the game (about twice as much as I usually would on a game) but I'm getting to that point after 50 jumps. I'll probably spin it up to wander around casually from time to time, but other than that I'm interested in waiting to see what happens with the updates.

There's plenty of potential to build on this if they're committed.

cant u reload ur save where u not in the "inside world"? That never happened to me, but ppl here say they use the jetpack to try get on a rock or something, and from thre start digging a hole up.

Well when I dig far down enough, the game will eventually have geometry clipping. I just got to make sure I don't fall through that clipping.

Finished the Atlas path. Then I went and did my first
black hole and only netted 2000 light years closer to the galaxy center
. Uh huh.

Is the distance you travel in Hyperdrive strictly based on the hyperdrives you have installed + their configuration? Does the type of ship you have affect how far you can travel in hyperdrive?

Wondering because I think I should have the best hyperdrive configuration (base + Sigma + Tau + Theta, all in a row) but it seems like I'm only getting about 500 light years of travel per warp. If the ship affects it then I might need to keep upgrading. Currently have a 33-slot ship that is smaller.

Believe it or not, but that's actually pretty good for a black hole. I usually get between 1000-2000 gain from them.

Really? That seems pretty weak. Not that much better than an upgraded hyperdrive.

I can't scan birds, no matter how close I am. It's annoying.
Get underneath them as much as you can, and shoot them down with your mining laser. Scan the corpses.

It's possible to clip out of this glitch, I do it by jet packing and drifting to the left or right until I'm standing on top of some cave assets. Then you can blast out.

i don't know why, but if you follow the pre-determined paths , they only get you so far (around 500LY) just get into free roaming mode, and aim for the galaxy center. If you have sigma-tau-theta touching, you'll get a bit more 1600LY per jump.

This pretty much sums it up for me. If they would build an engaging RPG or even MMO on top of this it would be absolutely incredible. Don't think that's going to happen though.

Part of me wishes they would have gone a different route: generate a few hundred planets/systems then handcraft and place game elements on top of that, adding things like dungeons with stories and special rewards, more dynamic/varied NPC interactions, generally more interesting/surprising scenarios etc. The game just feels a bit too static to me. The procedural tech is incredibly impressive but the repetition of the gameplay really drags it down.

It's too bad they squandered a lot of goodwill with the marketing of this game. I wonder if we'll see a sequel and, if we do, how that announcement will be received.

My first planet that doesn't look like shit or it's toxic/radiactive; or cold/hot as hell. Took me 10 star systems to find it. It's actually a small moon with its own atmosphere (ajem) and plenty life. Will stay here to farm.

Yoooo, it's like a whole new game when you remove the stupid blur effect, the scanlines/CA/Vignetting and the colour filter thing!

Sooooo clear and nice, even ugly planets look fresh. It's like finally getting glasses and being able to see right.

All I need is an easy way to remove all HUD elements, without having to use some script extender mod launcher thing which I don't want to bother with.

It's been a good day so far. Upgraded my suit quite a bit to 39, added about seven slots to my multi-tool, and upgraded ships twice.

I went to a new system that has five planets, the first three of which I've explored so far, and all three had zero fauna. I wonder if the last two will be the same.

Also found my first gravitino ball planet which has hostile sentinels, which I hadn't seen so far. It's a whole new experience trying to survive those while an extreme storm is going on.

Weird - I've been doing free-roam and trying to go as far as I possibly can, plus I have sigma/tau/theta touching (plus sigma is touching the base hyperdrive too) and I'm only getting 500 ly! The only thing I can think of is that they form a backwards-L shape and maybe that's different than a straight line? But they're still touching so I'm confused.

Yeah, I don't know how I managed to log 40 hours into this game. After every 10 I would say to myself "alright I think I'm done", only to keep playing. Despite agreeing with a ton of the criticism, it's strangely fascinating and addicting to be able to almost seamlessly jump in and out of systems, planets, space stations, outposts etc. without hitting any walls. It may be a trite comparison at this point, but it really does remind me of when I started playing Minecraft. I didn't care for building much, I just enjoyed seeing what the algorithm would spit out in front of me infinitely as I went along, while stopping to maintain and upgrading my weapons and armor occasionally with marginal benefits. It was pretty fresh and exciting at the time, and I think NMS managed to recapture a lot of that for me.

I honestly wouldn't call it a great game in its current state, and would be hard pressed to recommend it at its current price to someone not very interested, but I think it's a good one that has a lot of potential with mods and updates. Despite the myriad of walking simulators and early access survival games, No Man's Sky scratches a small itch that almost nothing else really fulfills when it comes to pure exploration.

Most of us who have that size ship likely got it from grinding distress beacons on Gek planets. 48 slot ships are stupid expensive in the current economy.

Is this a thing? I've been flying around Korvax planets wishing for transmission towers which only lead me to crashed ships I've already visited or those without ships at all.
