Everybody goin' after them sleek ships.

I like the big angular ones. Except the space trucker Winnebago looking deals. They should let you rename your ship.

I just want a nice, Korvax science ship. I know they all handle the same but in my head they ride the smoothest.

Their cockpits definitely aren't the same though. I love the look of the science ships, but the amount you can actually look around in their cockpit compared to the others is painfully low. I gave up one of those sweet-looking vertical-style Science ship because it was too dang hard to look around.

I don't know. Apparently some one has alraedy pointed out the ships have different hp depending on what type you have (The science having the least). And on the NMS subreddit people were saying they noticed a difference in handling (or thought they did). Of course it's kinda hard to tell with how sludgy the game responds anyways (put it this way, my controller has bluetooth connection issues that I usually can tell is happening cause the game starts lagging on response to my inputs... I barely notice it happening in NMS and I know it happens cause the person I'm chatting with will complain my microphone is acting up (my mic will act up too when this happens). So how well a ship controls may actually have a difference but hard to tell with how slow the controls feel already.

Also, apparently the ships are coded differently.

Anyways, I tend to prefer the starwar/xwing looking like ships myself. I like my current one and while it's only a 30 space I think I can make do with it for a while. Especially after upgrading the cannon so it is a bit better of a fighter (I'm removing all the mining beam upgrades to improve the cannon one so I can keep space. The cannon destroys asteroids just as quick and doesn't have cooldown period where as the mining beam I have to cool down per each shot I put in (and it has upgrades for the cool down period too and it still is annoyingly long). It's pointless when the cannon can do the same thing (and doesn't run out of ammo though maybe that's a glitch?).

My ship looks like a giant flashlight. It's brutally ugly and sensible.

I had this thing (or basically something like it) for a good chunk of the weekend:

So my aiming reticule when using my photon cannon's has disappeared. I can't hit shit with those cannons anymore as I can't lead the target properly. Phase beams melts ships like butter though.

Anybody ever see explosions on the ground as they're flying around a planet? Is that just debris and broken machinery crashing to the ground? Doesn't seem to be a crashed ship from what I could tell.

Yes, I thought I saw something like that the other day. it was way off on the horizon and it was very quick flash. I couldn't confirm if it was an explosion or not.

When this happens to me, usually after I've fixed up a new ship, a game restart tends to fix it.

Apparently the handling is similar but not the same and they travel at different speeds (shown in your cockpit). I haven't tested this but apparently others have. Seems related to the bits and pieces they're comprised of.

I claimed earlier in the OT that different classes of ships felt like they handled differently and another poster pointed out I was likely (well spoke from a position of almost absolute certainty) mistaken. Did a jump from an ugly cargo type to a sexy little fighter and the difference in manoeuvrability does feel tangible - again.

Surely I can't be so delusional can I? Can I?!

Fighters, scouts etc. were perhaps probably never meant to have 48 slots. Seems like a late design decision change. Fighters were probably just supposed to have enough space to carry the necessary weapons and fuel/life support resources and the rest of the time you'd likely be running bounties, escorting, defending etc in order to earn the credits to purchase the required warp cells

Yeah I think that idea of slot size being tied to ship class probably got scrapped at some point. And to me they definitely feel different, though not majorly so. Fighters seem to pitch/roll a little faster than the others. I haven't flown a Space Truck/Dropship in a while, but I seem to recall those handling pretty sluggishly.

I have a maxed out suit and a maxed out ship and I still have yet to find an Atlas Pass.

you wont really stumble into one you kind of have to deliberately go after
colonial outposts to get v2,v3. v1 may be from space anomalies.

as for space ships i farmed so many 48 slot ships and i kept getting ones that looked like these two.

ugly as hell and really terrible cockpit view.

spent almost an entire day getting those then eventually got one different for a change that looked like this with a decent cockpit view and at least unique looking

Can anyone please assist with a possible bug?

My warp reactor theta upgrade was damaged from a black hole but, after I repair, it's still damaged and the items it took to repair are gone.

Any help?

Imagining this being a thing and being able to own multiple ships and able to call them (for a price) at either a space station or various outposts when you want to change it up.

But I still want NPCs and jobs/factions first.

Easily the biggest mountain I've found. It was massive, it even had a "river" and a lake nearby. Beautiful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPKKcynqN4w

Shame the planet had no fauna, I didn't spend much time on it.
I've found a planet with a mountain way bigger then this, it take me arround 5 minutes to go on top with the jetpack and the quick movement trick. Thanks god the jetpack is unlimited when climbing a vertical wall XD

Man, I just went into that "Reddit list of Sean Murray lies" thread. That was a mistake. People talking him up likes he's an absolute maniacal con artist. I can't believe the difference between that and this thread.

It's much nicer here. I'll not leave again.

Damn, pics? I'd love to see more "extreme" stuff in this thread

This was the highest mountain I've seen but a view of me on top of it. Nearly put me in orbit:
Nice, do you have pics from the bottom? I love this kind of stuff

Well Sean did say there were different classes of ship, and that could be expressed in handling. It could also be that certain types of hulls have direct slots for upgrades. I've noticed that the x-wing style fighters tend to have weapons and/or shield unblocked, while the bubble-shaped sciencey ships tend have weapons blocked but have warp and pulse unblocked. Might just be confirmation bias with a small sample size though.

I do think it's silly that a fighter can hold as much cargo as a giant ship. Due to the general lack of game narrative, my only narrative is the one I create as I play, which is bound by the rules of the gameworld. Unfortunately many of these seemingly late in development changes Hello made have created conflicts in the rules. Like the cargo thing. When I get to the point of affording a 30+ slot ship, I'll have to deliberately pick a bulky ship because otherwise this world would make no sense. Maybe that sounds silly, but if I don't feel immersed then I would probably stop playing.

Looking more broadly at the systems in this game, there's a real clash between Hello trying to simulate a universe with ecosystems and functioning trade routes, and their unrealistic gamey systems like inventory slots where 1 trinket takes as much cargo space as 100 kg of iron. I feel like part of the game wants me to view it as a spreadsheet. And yet the game's world is so evocative (in terms of setting, at least) that focusing on slots and minmaxing upgrades would destroy the magic and soul of the game for me. I have been trying to resist the game's attempts to pull me into its meta-game world so that I can stay in its magical (and yet oddly more realistic) one.

I got the impression very early on from Sean that he's the type of guy who doesn't like games that hand hold the player. I'm not surprised by the result.

That being said, the game's systems are not that difficult and, baring glitches, there are solutions to most of the problems you might make for yourself.

Did you sell off your Atlas Stones? You can buy them back at a high price. It's a penalty for making the wrong decision but you're not left without an option.

Yeah I agree. The game doesn't hold your hand but is in no way overly complex. The more you play the more you understand. I didn't sell of my Atlas Stones either, as they said there very rare. By the time I'd collected a fair few I'd already increased my exosuit inventory space a lot, so it wasn't even that annoying carrying them.

Yeah I've seen that and I realised it's when I've flown over an area I've already been to, and where I exploded those five big canisters that contain Platinum or Titanium. It's almost like the game is remembering I destroyed them and blowing them up again as I come closer.

Same happened to me. I found if I switched from cannon to beams, hit a ship with a shot and then switched back to cannon while aiming at the same ship my aiming reticule came back on.

Saving and then going into the options and loading into that save usually fixes it for me.

That's because the game IS remembering that. Same thing happens for mined resources or destroyed terrain. The base algorithms that are creating this universe aren't changing....the changes we're making to it are getting seemingly layered on top and only pulled from their saved state when needed in the highest LoDs.

I just went through the same trek and read the original post (and now site with extremely thorough breakdown) and it's really difficult to reconcile my enjoyment of the game as it is now versus the game that was pitched/sold to people for 2.5 years.

I maintained a relatively strong media blackout since the VGX reveal, so I didn't spend a great deal of time learning about and becoming expectant of the great many things that are apparently missing from the game. I don't feel like I was promised a bevy of features that were curiously absent from the game because I'm largely not even aware (or remember) that they were in there to begin with.

I don't think Sean Murray or Hello Games intentionally set out to deceive people and take their money. I do think that Sean and the crew at Hello probably took a galactic-sized bite of way more than they can chew. The entire story feels like a game and a developer that have basically been in way over their head for awhile now. It doesn't excuse what has happened, or negate how upset some people are over the game, but I think it would at least explain the situation a little more. I can't help but wonder if Sean was basically being pushed by Sony to maintain the 2014/2015 narrative of what was in the game rather than being forthright about having to cut or diminish so many features.

It really sucks because I am loving every second I spend in the game and can't wait to play more. I'm really sorry so many people have been let down.

Yeah I know how it works. I was just saying the way it "remembers" the fact you've opened the canisters is by exploding again, rather than just emitting smoke.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks guys. It's pretty fascinating learning about the techniques used to keep such a large area persistent, I didn't even realize the terrain changes were persistent.

50 hours in, finished the Atlas questline. So regarding the journey to the center,
I've jumped through two black holes so far, one sent me 1.2mil ly away, the other 800k ly (or so the messagees after the jump said), so both times I'm roughly the same distance from the center as when I started. :p Is there maybe a more controlled way of jumping through black holes, or is it just pure luck? I've got Sigma, Tau and Theta Warp upgrades installed, and I can jump for about 1.2k ly which is pretty pointless if I want to take the journey that way.

Btw, regarding Nada and Polo, will they pop up from time to time even though I made those black hole jumps, or did I just leave them behind?

Black Holes say u travel a certain distance but that dont means u traveing towards the center... usually each black hole jump gets you 1500 to 2000LY closer to the center.

Yes Space Anomalies will always keep appearing at random locations

Thanks,
I was kinda expecting black holes to just throw you around randomly like that, but it looks like they're not that much more useful than ordinary jumps, since 1500 to 2000 ly is around what I can jump with my drive anyway.

Had to take a break for a few days but after seeing a few episodes of "Extraterrestrial" on Netflix I've been inspired to jump back in.

By the way - That show must've played a role of inspiration for HG; so many aesthetic similarities

It's best ignored as it's evolved into an anti-intellectual, anti-NMS complaint fest. Don't get me wrong, there are legitimate criticisms, but IMO, many are a result of people's unrealistic expectations. Sean/HG have tried to keep people's expectations in check for more than three years, regarding "but what do you do" specifically.

Admittedly I definitely want more and can only hope future DLC can aid that, but I've made it a point to enjoy the title for what it is. Not perfect, but it has brought me an experience like I've never witnessed and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I totally understand many players aren't as excited as me when they find a planet with massive oceans or a river (a fucking river!). lol

Posts like the one above regarding the huge mountain and varied landscapes exemplify that.

I've never fallen out of love as quickly with a game as I have with NMS. I've gone from absolutely loving it to being bored and irritated by it

Atlas path, can't be arsed.

Journey to the center, fuck that for a game of soldiers.

I got the plat yesterday and am now shelving the game in the hope that updates will make the game more enjoyable.

What a shame, so much potential wasted.

Jim was right...

The hyperdrive distance is not acurate, maybe because they made the galaxies bigger with the day 1 patch, so a 1600LY jump in a hyperdrive will only get you around 400LY closer to the center. So the other method is still the fast way to travel, even if brakes a random upgrade each time you use it.

Cool. I'll see if I can duplicate one when I get home (set the game to revert to orginal version on GOG before leaving for work), if not I'll just head to that station and see what happens.

If it doesn't give me another stone, I'll just back out and see if I can find one for sale somewhere.

Well, fuck.

No luck on getting the duplication glitch to work on the rolled back GOG version to dupe the Atlas stone I accidentally discarded.

Went to the last Atlas Station and it was just the one where you needed to have 10 and didn't give me one.

I jumped back a system to try and find one for sale. Finally found one in a ship that landed in the space station--but it was 2.7+ million and I only had 1.1 million. The path back to that last Atlas station also vanished and the map just now has the system I'm in at the end of the line.

Lame as hell. Guess I'll just focus on getting to the center via that path, and if I every find an Atlas Stone I can afford I'll see if I can find an Anomoly and have the alien there put a waypoint to the Atlas station again.

So disappointing as I was so looking forward to getting this over with tonight and shelving the game for a long while as it's really gotten stale for me after the 30 or so hour mark (somewhere in the 40s now). :(

Been looking for a station that buys Omegon at a 100% markup. Got a cargo hold full of the stuff, and space pirates love to make runs at me.

Anyone seen a station that takes it at 100%? Is my waiting futile?

I stayed in the dark in terms of spoilers and went in assuming I would have a game that he said as well as his previews showed. I'm near platinum and very bored so I did some reading looking to find out when/how to see/experience the features talked about and shown off.

Turns out it was a lie.

I feel duped.

I used to like him and his demeanor, always felt like he knew he had something special for us and that is why he was always awkward and vague during the development of this game. Turns out he was lieing to himself the entore time too. I won't buy his products again. Sure, I had a "good time" with the game simply because I was always excited to experience what I saw at some point from the trailers. Now that I know I won't I can't even find the energy to turn the game on.

How do I find ships with more than 24 slots?? Been doing transmission towers but nothing.

Also upgrades for my Multi tool are always the same as I have. Very annoying.

Just following the path to centre and chilling. But is there a trick to getting the 48 slots on everything??
