The title says it all.
What's your prediction for the top6 games that will be there?

Mine:
TLOU2
Ghost of Tsushima (my pick)
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Half-Life: Alyx
Ori 2
They will probably throw Animal Crossing into this just because...

Ghost of Tsushima

TLoU2

Doom Eternal

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Nioh 2

Animal Crossing (i just threw up a little in my mouth)

Ghost is my goty but TLoU2 will win most likely

Well these awards shows are much more based on popularity so I'm guessing either going to be TLOU2 or CP2077.

Whatever Sony put out this year. The host is hugely biased and he even moved the goal posts this year on nominee eligibity requirements to get more Sony games in. I feel like this is technically fair because the release dates should always have been through to when the award show date is at least but Geoff never changed eligibility dates prior to this year even though the communityways begged him to. Show is a joke Geoff is a joke.

Let's not kid ourselves, it's going to be The Last of Us 2. Not after the gaming press had a collective orgasm when it released and praised it to high heavens.

Ghost of Tsushima deserves to be GOTY but I'm not holding my breath.

It should represent an unprecedented body of high quality work. Relative to workforce, maybe~ as such in thinking ghost, TLOU 2, and similar. I'm a sucker for persona games~

Of that list, just because would be my GOTY.

My favorites so far: Nioh 2, RE3, FFVII:Remake, THPS1+2, Curse of the Moon 2. I'm sure Demon Souls will end up on my list as well. Year of the remake, baby.

TLOU2 - obligatory
Half-Life: Alyx - geoff likes valve
FF7R - long awaited nostalgia
Ghost of Tsushima - open-world and a lot of marketing hype
Animal Crossing - social impact
Hades - usually only one indie pick like celeste

Half-life alyx - winner
TLOU 2
Hades
Desperados 3
Gengin impact
Animal crossing

Snubbed:
Microsoft flight simulator
Fall guys
Got - I don't see the hype for this it came out to mediocre reviews same with FF
Wasteland 3
Persona
Ori

My prediction for the nominees would be:

TLOU 2 - and it will win as it deserves
Hades
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Ghost of Tsushima
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Final Fantasy VII Remake

TLOU2 followed by another wave of woke hunting taste policemen re-explaing why the game is trash.

I'll be there for the meltdowns with popcorn.

Personally I'd love to see Ghost of Tsushima winning sth multiplayer for absolutely phenomenal Legends, not sure was it even nominated? This dlc shat on the whole gaas landscape and I hope devs will look back on it as an example how to do this right

Kind of a shit year. It'll be between Ghost which was somewhat better than the average AC game and TLOU which I liked for some of the fantastic horror sections, but not much beyond that. TLOU will probably end up winning.

Crusader Kings 3 should be GOTY though. It's the best in a series that is considered by most to be the best of its genre. That's a big deal. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of game that's played by the masses. Too bad Cyberpunk didn't launch back in September like it was supposed to. It would have easily cleaned house on almost all TGA awards categories it would have been nominated to.

Is FFVIIR really considered a serious contender for GOTY?

I liked it but only because of the nostalgia factor, there's nothing really outstanding about its gameplay, it's just good basically.

I hope HL:A gets it but realistically the VR market is too small for that, it's gonna be Ghost of Sashimi or TLOU.

My prediction:
1. The Last Of Us Part II. (winner).
2. Dreams. (interesting New IP).
3. Final Fantasy VII Remake.
4. Half-Life Alyx.
5. Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
6. Ghost Of Tsushima.

What are the changes compared to other years?

FF7R.

There should be a new category... Survived the hype. and none did like FF7R ever surpassing it.

Ghosts of Tsushima would be my pick, and far ahead of most other games. Decent open world formula, enhanced from Second Son. Different enough from Ubisoft to feel somewhat fresh. Solid combat, if not great. Good lead character, foxes, stances, and oozing with style and passion. If nothing else Sucker Punch should win this award just for the passion they put into this game. Then we can talk about the extra free DLC and additions.

This was a passion project that turned out incredibly well. I never got stick of the style of the stand offs, it was just a gripping game visually, thematically, it was a true homage to cinema of old. A true labor of love, it might not have started out that way, but that is what it became.

Hands down my pick.

The game met and exceeded expectations. It delivered in a major way.

My picks:
Half-Life: Alyx
Ori 2
Hades
Animal Crossing
Doom Eternal
Flight Simulator 2020

But since it's the Game Awards, Sony Games are inevitable. I think it will be:
TLOU2
Persona 5 Royal
Dreams
GoT
Final Fantasy VII
Half-Life: Alyx

I get why GAF dismisses Animal Crossing as it probably doesn't appeal to many here but my gf, her best friend and one of my friends wives all play the game and each one has over 120 hours logged on the Switch.

The game is a massive hit with all different kinds of people and has sold incredibly well. I don't really get the appeal and the gameplay just isn't for me but I recognise that a hell of a lot of people do like it and that it's a hugely successful game that deserves some kind of praise.

Personally I hope Ghost of Tsushima wins over The Last of Us 2 but it'd also be nice to see something like Ori 2 or Hades win. Maybe even MS Flight Simulator.

Alyx, Flight Sim or Ghost should win. Generic TLOU2 gonna win because of virtue signaling, the game is a boring soft core fest with animations and custcenes. No idea why enthusiasts accept that shit.

It deserves it. It's an impressively made video game.
I agree that the animations are unparalleled and the gameplay is visceral due to that, and it has exceptional graphics. However, when it comes to gameplay, it has failed to do anything GOTY status and the story is downright awful. Mr. Druckmann has just displayed the inner workings of his perverted mind (actors have all done their jobs well). GoT is GOTY for me not just due to the game but due to the post launch support and added free content; it is a lesson in post launch support.

I loved Ghost of Tsushima more, but I think TLOU2 deserves it. It's just too high in production quality compared to other games, like one gen ahead.

TLOU2 - hated more than Death Stranding so that's out.

GOT - another sekiro clone two years in a row? No!

P5R - an expansion pack of a game from 2017? Rofl!

Animal Crossing - a sim for casuals? Only if you're 5 years old.

Half-Life: Alyx - a VR game that barely anyone played? Ha!

Flight Simulator 2020 - waiting for the punchline of this meme.

Due to process of elimination there's only one true contender, and it's none of these that's for sure.

I agree. If aren't too late to be included, Spider-Man Miles Morales and Demon's Souls I bet will be there too.
They would replace Alyx, Ori 2 and AC to those who don't need to include a Nintendo and MS diversity quota, or those who don't have a Valve Index.
I think TLOU2 will win most GOTY awards.

Cyberpunk 2077 officially out of nomination now?
Pushed to next year in most GOTY awards because of dates. I'd do the GOTY awards ceremony in January and would include the games released in that natural year, but it isn't how they work, because they prefer to see their GOTY stamps for Christmas marketing.
