Yeah, I forgot to point that out. One theory for Stern's insistence that the tacky fouls be called is the way Duncan and other US players constantly got into foul trouble at the Olympics, which I believe was a huge reason why they were never able to get into a flow (well that and their outside shooting was pathetic). So anyway, the hope is that US players will get used to these calls, so they can be better prepared and equipped for future Olympics. At least that's how the theory goes...though when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

I was expecting Barry to go off on his old team last night...I was wrong. 81-1 is still in the cards!

Well, the offseason "rule change" (more of a different standard in calling, though) on fouling a player while he is driving towards the basket was basically done to benefit Kobe (and guys like him, but him the most). Which isn't suprising since the way the Piston's defended him was the impetus for it (much like in the NFL with the Patriots CBs and the Colts WR). So i'd expect him to get a ton of free throws this year.

Are you implying that they changed the rules just because Kobe couldn't get it done in the Finals last year? ;) :p I dunno...I'm more inclined to believe either Shinobi's explanation above or that they want a bettter-paced, more exciting game (more fouls will initially slow the game down, but the idea is that once players adjust, it'll allow for freer play). I dunno...I guess we'll see. Still, in all the games I watched, he got to the line about 4-5 times more than he should have based on what was called for other players.

THE GOOD

Charlotte Bobcats: So much for the "worst team ever" theory. The Bobcats won a stunner against the Magic on Saturday and rank sixth in the NBA in scoring at 103 ppg. Emeka Okafor (15.5 ppg and 12 rpg) and Primoz Brezec (17.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg on 67 percent shooting) were one of the league's more formidable front lines in Week One. Jason Hart has come through big time at the point, averaging 8.5 apg, and veteran Steve Smith (14.5 ppg on 57 percent shooting) has proven there's still some juice left in the tank. Let's not go overboard here, but if you're the Warriors, who come into town Saturday, you're sweating right about now.

THE BAD

Atlanta Hawks: Al Harrington is calling the team a "work in progress." That may be the understatement of the year. The Hawks are giving up a league-worst 108 ppg while only scoring 85 ppg. That minus-22 point differential ranks last in the NBA. The blowout losses to the Suns and Lakers weren't unexpected. But losing to the Sonics by 21? To be fair, the Hawks played their first three games on the road, but in reality, will they really fare any better in upcoming home games against the Cavs, Spurs, Rockets and Jazz.? The more I watch the Bobcats, the more I'm not sure the Hawks' visit to Charlotte on Nov. 29 is such a slam dunk for Atlanta, either.

OWNED.

No no, it was done to increase scoring. But it was done to increase scoring via increased dribble penetration.

Kirilenko is a frigging monster. 24 points 6 boards 4 assists 4 steals 5 blocks... 8-12 shooting.
His FT shooting was weak tonight, but those numbers are disgusting regardless.

Man, Kirilenko had 5+ blocks again tonight-- guy's an animal.

EDIT:

And they just showed KG's stats thus far this season:

27.3 points
57% FG
16.7 rebounds
6.0 assists
3.0 blocks

Yeah, it's only been 3 or 4 games, but still-- those are sick numbers. :D Imagine if a guy ever maintained those #'s for an entire season nowadays? Those are better than Shaq prime #'s. Crazy. He'd be a unanimous MVP choice.

They showed a segment on sportscenter where they showed a short segment of the Jazz game. AK-47 had a huge effect on every single possession and turned a 5 point lead into almost 20. Guy is really dominating in every single facet of the game right now.

Not that it means anything this early in the season, but 2 OTs for Detroit to take out the Clippers? I really doubt they are going to repeat unless Duncan, Garnett, or Kobe gets injured in the Finals. :D

:lol

Also, didn't Richard Jefferson have a line of 28, 21 and 8 last week? Granted I think it was an overtime game against the Bulls, but still...those numbers are just silly. And we've seen quite a lot of lines with that level of lunacy so far...Pierce had 35 and 13 boards in game one. Wonder how much of that has to do with the new foul calling.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
I just noticed that Dwayne Wade is #3 behind AI and Kobe in PPG.....

AK-47 = Basketball God!

I´m gonna be rocking that haircut starting tomorrow. :p

Garnett is just a stat padder. He is playing a crazy amount of minutes and no one on his team other than him can rebound or block shots.

Poody

What program do you use to photoshop a picture?
Ok its 4 games into the season and you all have already jumped on the jizz bandwangon. :lol

KG is averaging 42 minutes, only two above his average last season. Kobe's averaging 43, nearly 6 more than his average last season. :p I don't see what that proves. Also, the fact that nobody else on his team can rebound has nothing to do with anything. There have been dozens of big men on crappy teams over the years and they don't even break 10 rebounds/game. Garnett is a monster. Can you name one other player in the league besides maybe Duncan who would be capable of putting up those numbers, even on the Wolves while playing 42 minutes per game? I can't.

If Kirilenko is still averaging 5+ blocks after 10-15 games, I think it'll be safe to say he'll lead the league in blocks for the season-- he'll probably be the shortest guy to ever do so.

LOL!!!!

Sonics laid down a BEATING on the hapless Spurs. I just heard about the annihilation this morning, too, as I've been moving all damn weekend. 113-91.

:lol

Looks like I'll have to revise my predictions.

113-94, actually. Don't knock us down even more. It's enough losing to a lottery team. :p

Yeah man! Did you see that sick dunk Ray Allen had? Oh, wait...that was Rashard Lewis-- Ray Allen was last spotted above a rim back in '01. Err, I mean, did you see that sweet fadeaway jumper by Ray Allen!? ;) :p

:/

Griffin averages 5.8 RPG, Olowokandi averages 7.7, and both average 1.6 blocks per game.

Saying that Garnett is the only person who can block shots and/or rebound on the wolves is completely false. He's just the best at doing them on the team. :p

Stat padder? Garnett? Bullshit.

Heh, and I was kind of bummed seeing that the Wolves were put in a division with only Portland, Seattle, Denver, and Utah, worried about there being no competition (Hey, I'm a wolves fan, but competition is entertaining! :D )

ESPN upped the Raps power rankings from 24rth to 10th.. might be a little premature on that.

:lol That picture is priceless.

It might be premature, but they're not the only one to give the Raps a huge boost...

11) Toronto - Great start to the season. Hey Raptors fans, InsideHoops.com loves you guys, so save the mail demanding that we bump the squad higher. If they keep this up, we'll do it. The team's key players so far have been Chris Bosh and Rafer Alston. Vince Carter has come out quietly in the scoring department but is successfully making teammates better. Center Loren Woods has been a nice surprise. A total team effort here has looked good.

http://www.insidehoops.com/power-rankings.shtml

And SI's power rankings has the Raps at #12, up ten places from a week ago...

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/marty_burns/11/08/power.rankings/index.html

I think the rankings are pretty fear...most people would've bet on a 1-2 or 0-3 start, so the fact that they beat the Rockets, Pistons and Blazers at home (and the first two games they flat out beat those teams) is pretty encouraging. If they can go 3-3 on this road trip, it'd be huge.

And I like your attitude Gamie...competition hardens you, prepares you for the playoff wars, and being in a tough division provides that testing. When the gang is strong, you're strong...just look at how the dominance of the NFC East from the early 80's to mid 90's produced eight Superbowl wins in 16 years. The Spurs won't be able to let up being in the division of death, and that bodes well for them come April. Well, unless they miss the playoffs. :lol

"and the first two games they flat out beat those teams"

I dont consider the Rockets losing by 7 being flat out beat :p Then again the Rockets lost with Carter hardly doing shit,so maybe you're right.

Kobe already has 4 turnovers in the 2nd quarter. The Lakers have been having way too many turnovers lately, it seems they have 17-19 turnovers every other game. Kobe has never been that careful with the ball when he is running the offense, too bad we don't have a real point guard to get other people involved. I am praying that Vlade will cure our TO woes when he comes back.

Oh yeah, why doesn't Walton get any playing time? He is a great passer and I would like to see what happens when we try and run the offense through him in the post.

The Hornets don't belong in the West :lol

What I found surprising is that the Hornets had a choice to stay in the East or move West. Chad Ford said if the Hornets had refused to move West, the Bobcats would've been placed in the West. I think I could guarantee a 5-77 record for the Bobcats if that had happened

Magloire exposed as the fraud of an all-star he is. I still can't believe the all-star selection with the numbers he had last year in the crappy crappy EC. He's not a bad player at all, but not even a star player as far as I'm concerned.
