November NBA Season Thread - It's finally time

There's not that much right now, but I still agree that if we're talking about players of the past....or (zzzzzzzzz) comparing Kobe to MJ, it should be in another thread. I know Loki loves a good argument, but talking about this year's teams....even the Clippers! is more exciting than that.

Agreed. I'm a Jordan fan also, but I've finally excepted retirement in 2003 with pride. All MJ vs. Kobe arguments should've ended after this year's Finals, where Kobe owned himself in the worst way. Loki, relax man, ain't a player on the horizon fucking with MJ for some time to come. Today's players just aren't consistent enough to climb Jordan's career stats mountain.

I like the league better now because you just don't know what particular player might go off on any given night, and that makes it more exciting. I don't post often because you NBA thread regulars do a great job holding it down. I might chime in from time to time, but for the most part, I'll be waiting for the Playoffs like a few other lurkers here. Great start to the new season though. Players look hungrier than I've seen them in some time.

Kcerrid: I wasn't the one who brought MJ's name up, as I've mentioned. :) I was simply pointing out Kobe's absurd # of FT's through the first 6-8 games of the season, and then OTHER people started with the "and Jordan never got help from the refs?" stuff. I then compared Jordan's #'s over the years (in terms of FT's) to Kobe's current blistering (and unwarranted) pace. That's all. I wasn't comparing anything about the two beyond this, and I wasn't the one who brought it up. :p

I agree that the Kobe/MJ war has gotten old and stale. Plus, if anyone wants to mock Kobe(don't we all?), he has given us enough material on his own, without the need of bringing up MJ's name. :D

Did anyone see the AMA's yesterday?
Kobe got his ass booed for 2 minutes.
Looks like people's true feelings are now starting to show.
When he was winning no one gave a shit that he is a rapist.

Dude, as crazy as it sounds Sactown is right. Everyone in the media that ever hated Kobe or the Lakers is going to slam him as long as the Lakers are losing. Shaq has been pretty much sainted and Kobe is now the bad guy.

People will come back as soon as the Lakers win another title in 2-3 years though. The media won't diss someone who wins a ring, they are all pretty much cowards in that respect.

Watch some of the same haters go after Shaq when he fails to win a ring in Miami.

Anyways, who gives a fuck if Kobe gets endorsements or if he is popular. I feel a little bad for the guy because he was blatantly falsely accused of rape, but who cares, as long as the Lakers win I can live with them being the most hated team in sports. :D

if the AMA's stood for Annoying Me-first Assholes, kobe would be the president. jesus christ, my hate for him grew over the offseason, and not because of shaq and phil leaving, but because of him being such a little bitch asking the lakers to play some home games at the clippers because it's "closer to his house" and just in general throwing all these little baby tantrums whenever things don't go his way. he plays for the team. he should be fucking lucky they're paying him. and yet he's made the organization bend over backwards for him.

You're quite mis-informed. Also, he's not the first or last superstar to make the organization "bend over backwards". Oh well, the media built dude up and they will tear him down. Everyone is now dreaming up reasons to hate the guy :lol

With the Bulls, he tried to take a job at the Best Buy on Sunday afternoons to get the employee discount for equipment. He had been buying so much stuff for family and friends, he practically blew his whole rookie year salary in the NBA. When Michael Jordan allegedly teased Artest once over his state of financial woe in a summer pickup game, legend has it Artest picked him up and body-slammed him. Even cracked a couple of ribs.

OMG Is this true? :lol

I can't believe I am saying this, but I am starting to feel bad for Houston fans. Van Gundy seems to be the worst coach in the NBA, he has somehow made Yao and TMac look ordinary. That takes a special kind of coach.

Stop rewriting history, Artest made Jordan his bitch.

There were conflicting stories about that incident, with some people going with the bodyslam story and others saying it was a hard elbow to the ribs on a post-up or rebound or some such (I heard that they were shooting each other elbows under the boards and Artest got a bit carried away). Even if it was the bodyslam (which is unlikely when you think about it-- I don't care how crazy you are, you're not gonna go off on MJ like that in an exhibition game), remember that Jordan was 39 years old. Artest wouldn't have tried that shit on Mike in his younger days, or he would've gotten messed up. Jordan's never lost an NBA altercation, either on or off the court, according to sources, which just goes to show yet again that Jordan = the alpha male. :D

To paraphrase former NJ Net Jayson Williams from a self-penned GQ article from '97:

"Mike is a bad man; he'll smile for the cameras, but if you start some shit with him on the court, or if he hears you've been talking shit about him in the press, he'll find you after the game and he'll put you right on your ass. I've seen it happen and heard about it other times, too. That's why guys don't mess with him. Mike's hard, he's a hard man."

He then proceeded to say what a swell guy Jordan is and call him "Black Jesus"-- clearly, this is a man of sound judgment. ;) :p

sure some people where booing him but the cheers kobe got made up for it and sounded like he got a standing ovation.

The joke was lame. Kimmel did a Shaq impresson- a bad one at that- while reading a fake letter from Shaq to Kobe.

[Shaq voice] Dear Kobe, how are you? Things are good in Florida but I miss you and the guys. Uh-huh... just kidding.

I hate your guts.

Your Pal, Shaq [Shaq voice]

[Kimmel] At least they're communicating [Kimmel]

The crowd laughed, and then Kimmel introduced Kobe. There was booing, but there was also a lot of cheering. I wonder why the fuck is Kobe doing these events anyhow. Is it to gauge public perception? He should just lay low when it comes to off the court activities.

Thanks for the summary. :) If someone could get the clip up and running again, I would appreciate it.

As if it couldn't get any worse for Kobe...

From Nas' new album, Street's Disciple

"Athletes of today in the NBA, make me proud, but theres something they don't say. Keep getting accused of abusing white pussay. From OJ to Kobe, or lets call him Toby. First he played his life cool just like Michael. Now he rock ice too, just like I do. Yo, you can't do better then that? The hotel clerk who adjust the bathroom mat. Now you lose sponsorships that you thought had your back. You beat the rap, jiggaboo, fake nigga you. You turn around then you shit on Shaq. Who would have knew? Mr. Goody Two Shoes. He love a little butt crack, got enough cash, little kids with their bus pass who look up to you. To do something for the youth, stupid spoof. But you let them use you as an example."

Kobe asking the Clippers to play home games away from LA isn't the only thing he did. He also got the Clips to trade Melvin Ely and Eddie House to the Bobcats for future second round picks! The Clips did that trade for cap room to sign Kobe, which of course didn't happen. Thanks Kobe! You made the Kobe for Divac trade that much more palatable as a Charlotte fan;)

Kobe lovers: "Stop bringing up MJ in every friggin' post!"

Someone post something negative about Kobe.

Kobe lovers: "Oh yeah, well...in...1985 some white girl turned MJ down. MJ owned!!!"

:D

Now on to some real business: Nash's return (and inevitable spanking) to the AAC. Who's with me?

Kobe in '08 olympics along with Phill.

"Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson might well be together again as the ticket to lead this country in '08, when the U.S. Olympic basketball team endeavors to recapture its throne.

Bryant fully intends to be in Beijing - and is even willing to play for Jackson there.

"I've always said I respect Phil as a coach," Bryant said. "It's as a person, as a man, that we don't see eye to eye. But as a coach I have a tremendous amount of respect for him."
So no matter how much Jackson bashes Bryant in his book version of their true Hollywood story, it won't discourage Bryant from playing for him internationally?
"No," Bryant said.

"I don't think there are any lingering negative feelings," Musburger said. "My view is Phil would never exercise veto power over any athlete. It certainly would be an interesting pairing, but their record with Kobe on the floor and Phil on the bench speaks for itself."

Mavericks vs. Mavericks?

Cool. That should be one high scoring game. I predict a 153-150 win for the Mavs.

Still bitter about 95? Wouldn't have happened if David Robinson hadn't stolen Dream's MVP trophy.

And for the record, Houston didn't lose to the Bobcats. Sorry, you lose.

More like they took a trip out East. The eastern conference is like medicine for struggling teams.

Considering you were against Bron the minute he was drafted, I think your opinion is rated as low as ESPN's :p

I was never against Bron, dude. Hell, I even had him in his draft day gear as my avatar for a while. I just thought Melo was robbed last year (he's doing his best to make me look dumb this season though :lol)

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
Konex...I swore I recall you saying Bron was highly overrated....if anyone was ,it was Carmelo cant shoot for shit Anthony :p
