NPD Sales Results for September 2015 [Up2: Nintendo Numbers]

EA needs to bring back NBA Street. There is just no way they can compete with 2K in the basketball sim space.

There must be some significant losses on these last 3 years of NBA Live games. How cheap can it be to make these games? All three games have been bombs. And each 2K game fir current gen has performed better than the last.

The dev budget on NBA Live would be better spent on making literally anything else.

The Miku game and Senran Kagura on 3ds right?

About time Japanese companies broaden their platforms/regions horizons to cope with declining sales in the West. PC, China or just anything at this point.

Yes.

Miku 3DS opened better than Miku PS3, which has been regarded as a quite lively platform for niche Japanese games. Therefore, Miku 3DS first month seems quite good - also considering it's a spin-off series (the mainline is definitely Project Diva).

As for Senran Kagura - it's hard to say whether the result is good or not, since the first one was only released on the eShop (and sold well according to XSeed) and this one had probably a quite limited release.

Will nobody confirm our figures?!?! Normally we wouldnt need to ask but this month is odd in that we dont have a base figure to go from that is 100% confirmed to be accurate. Some sort of affirmation or refutation would be extremely helpful. Kthx.

We have Wii U last month +110%, right?-

It might be a license thing, like they bought it for X number of years and have to make a game with it, or lose the rights. It would explain the Roger Corman like quality to them...

UK has always been too similar to the US in sales trends for my liking. Dammit. PES deserves so much more sales. But I suppose with every major YouTuber (KSI, Sidemen etc, who are all British) all playing Fifa, the younger generation here are constantly being indirectly marketed.

PES got damaged immensely last gen, used to be the defacto better game, but during the start of the PS360 generation Fifa became a viable alternative to PES gameplay wise and PES never managed to get infront, because now both games are legit choices, and this is where EA's official license kicks the shit out of PES.

PS3 is not considered a lively platform for anything in US since PS4 was launched.

Basically all the infos we got point to Wii U ~75k
That is lower than what Nintendo is suggesting in their PR using 110% over august but being a PR I guess there could be some rounding involved in fact they say "nearly" 110%.

Case in point, see XSEED's announcements from last week.

Didn't MGS4 sell close to that MGSV number in it's debut month? 1 vs 5 platforms? I know a big chunk of the sales will be digital, so it's hard to interpret if the game did well or not.

I would rate it as alright. It wasn't exactly a huge success in NA but by no means a flop or anything.

Just kinda meh / average for a big AAA game

Excellent results all around! I'm a little surprised that people are surprised by:

1) NBA 2K's performance. 2K has been exceptional for years now, and on top of that, there's just no competition. That's a recipe for big big numbers.

2) Forza 6's performance. Forza is one of Microsoft's poorest selling first-party games. It's an unpopular franchise.

EA needs to bring back NBA Street.

Be careful what you wish for.

V: 4 69%, 1 23%
total < 800

Hardly surprising split there.

I'd be shocked if the PS4 version got less than a 60% split.

PES got damaged immensely last gen, used to be the defacto better game, but during the start of the PS360 generation Fifa became a viable alternative to PES gameplay wise and PES never managed to get infront, because now both games are legit choices, and this is where EA's official license kicks the shit out of PES.

This is so very true. PES6 on PS2 is the best iteration of football I've ever played but it all went down hill from there.

Now you can't even get the kids to try Pro Evo. My younger bro is obsessed with just the FIFA 16 demo and won't even give my copy of PES a try.

Ever? Mario Kart DS + Wii outsold GT 1-6 combined.

GT hasn't been especially strong in America in ages. It's also completely collapsed in Japan, Europe's it's core market now. MK8 will likely outsell GT7 in America too unless it's ruthlessly bundled, and neither is going be anywhere near 12-14m worldwide.

It was. Until GT6.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain barely matched what Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots sold 7 year ago.

On the contrary, in the UK Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain outperformed the previous numbered title by 54%.

[Week 36, 2015] METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN (KONAMI) - 169,880 / NEW
[Week 24, 2008] METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS (KONAMI) - 110,000 / NEW

so could this of been the death knell for PES 16... despite reviewers making silly claims about how great it is, it would appear FIFA 16 is entrenched and not to be moved...

With Konami as they are could they decide to bow out?

Hi guys,

the software sales are retail only? Are digital sales (xbox store, psn) also included?

No. Only retail.

With the bias of hindsight, last-gen versions of MGSV turned out to be a waste of time and money for Konami. Even in Japan, the PS4 version is outperforming the PS3 version by quite a margin.

The problem is that MGSV was originally scheduled to be released in late 2014. It was delayed by almost a year.
Last year the old gen versions wouldn't have been so irrelevant. But yeah with the way things went it was just a waste of time and they dragged down the potential of the current gen versions.

In other news, seems that that ridiculous prized Halo LE bundle has passed PS4 TTK bundle and Battlefront LE bundles in Amazon monthly. One could say next NPD is interesting. But of course that's only X1 bundle in top 100 and PS4 has 4.

Yes, precisely. I can imagine why Konami would think going cross-gen would be the better choice since early gen 7 was very slow in hardware sales and there were some worries that this console generation would be even slower. They played it safe.

The answer to the first question is yes. The answer to the second is no. You'll only get digital sales data from PSN, etc. in statements released by the Big 3.

Launch sales of last-gen versions of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain didn't reach 200,000 units between the 3 biggest markets.

US <64,000
Japan - 117,547
UK - 8,500

Total <190,047

I don't think that the next NPD will be so interesting.
The way things are now it's clear that the PS4 price cut has totally counterbalanced the impact of Halo 5 and October will be an other close month whoever comes on top.

Really if there was ever a sign that cross gen needed to die..

But in MGS V case it was necessary for Japan PS3 owners I guess, clearly evidenced by higher sales than any other region.

It's a good match up between the two: Pricecut PS4 vs Halo 5.

I think Halo 5 will cause MS to just eke a win out, with Nov and Dec going back to PS4.

It went on sale today didn't it?
The H5 bundle finished 24th in August so factor that into this months total.
Also, the BF and CoD bundles are November.

Ok, now, for the hardware...

I get something like 595K based on the 40% number. It's way to general to argue over 45K, though. 1% diff when talking about millions makes a big difference. Will wait for delicious pie...

If Donny is right, then, 85k for Wii U should still be ok, and we have:

PS4: 340k
XB1: 281k

Which should be fine... both down YOY too, and seem about right with the "near" 110% increase for Wii U fom 42,500 of August.

Am i missing something?

Battlefront doesn't count for october though. But i still see the TLOU bundle at place #21 while the Halo bundle is at place #29

Right now it's :
21 - PS4 TLOU
29 - Xbox One Halo
32 - PS4 Destiny
38 - PS4 UCC

and i think that's all.

Why on earth are PSN gift cards up so high up on the list? Do most people who don't want to put their CC info on PSN buy these?
