Guru3d's review of the Aorus Extreme:

This card will not overclock much higher for the simple reason that Gigabyte pretty much went all the way for you, they defined a factory tweak and applied it. It is roughly your maximum with maybe ~40 MHz room left on that GPU base clock frequency. As such at default this card hovers in that familiar 2000~2050 MHz range.

As to be expected. I'm still waiting for Techreport's review, but it almost a lock for me to go with this card.

How big of a problem is GPU sag? My 980 sags a bit but I've never really worried about it but with these cards being as big/heavy as they are is it something to consider?

The price of the EVGA 1080TI cards dropped on Newegg. For example, the SC2 is now pre-orderable for $719, down from $749. Is this price cut a newegg promotion or did EVGA cut the prices already?

I have a pre-order in for the FTW3 via Amazon for it's full $779 price but now it's $749 on newegg. (But still sold out)

I think they are just leveling off with the actual EVGA prices. As you can preorder those card strait from EVGA for those reduced prices sense day 1.

So, how much lower FPS should I expect with my upcoming EVGA SC2 compared to say an FTW3 or the Aoras Extreme?

Makes me sad that my case just won't fit one of those bigger cards. :(

Prices seem to get adjusted a bit on all stores, perhaps some of them are reactionary to be more in-line with other brands. My MSI card was first listed at 9500SEK, but then a few days later it went down to 8999, so ~50€ cheaper and that's when I ordered it.

The Aorus I had ordered went up almost 50€ instead.

Difference won't be noticeable. You will most likely hit the 2GHz mark (or be just under at like 1950) just fine with that card. We are talking a few frames at worst.

Hehehehehe. Nah, but I would sell my 1080 with custom cooling if I could, in order to pick up a 1080ti :(
You see, I got myself one of the cheaper MSI leafblower style cooler (small case) 1080's, but my temps were pretty high, so I bought a third party GPU cooler, which was great, my temps went down by 20 degrees. BUT the new coolign system interfered with the RAM sticks and my USB 3 connector on my tiny Mini ITX mobo.

Instead of asking a friend to see if he could cut some of the fins neatly, I took a screw driver to them. It worked! But now it looks ugly as sin, and I'm ashamed.

Small update: It exhibited the same issues in his PC. Here's hoping I don't miss out on Newegg AU's batch of FTW3s.

Definitely faulty. Same exact thing happend to my 980TI a month ago, crashed, then reboot to black screen. Managed to get into windows by re-installing windows, but as soon official Nvida drivers "kicked in" in went to black screen again. (Also the GPU fans just stopped shorty after boot, and the card got very hot)

RMA'ed it, and lucky for me, got a full refund as they where out of stock (did not expect that, expected a 1070 or a 1080 at best). Now just waiting for a 1080TI, have a 680GTX backup though, clearing my indie-backlog.

This is for users that have a computer that already has a water loop correct? (I should have done this when I went all out and built my machine but I just stuck with the closed loop CPU cooler).

I sort of really want a hybrid closed loop 1080Ti, but the only one I know of is the EVGA one from previous generations.

In other news, I've never owned anything Gigabyte any idea how their warranty and support is? The AORUS card does seem pretty awesome.

Yea, I'm curious how gigabyte gpus stack up to evga In overall reliability, warranty and support.. I been an evga guy for a long time now but wouldn't mind switching if most think GB are just as good or possibly better.

Check out Jaytwoz's recent MSI 1080 Ti video and Paul's Hardware Asus Strix videos. The only fps difference was a few fps. The real advantage to these cards are noise levels and temps, and in EVGA's case, customer service. FPS will not be noticeable to most people.

I installed a hybrid kit meant for the 1080 and it worked great after modifying the baseplate. The Titan X/1080 Ti hybrid kit is identical to the 1080 kit aside from 3 modifications to the baseplate (cut out 2 spots and grind down one spot using a dremel tool) and thermal pad rearrangement for the memory. You also need to use 3 thermal pads from your original 1080 Ti cooler since the 1080 hybrid kit has pads for 8 memory chips instead of 11. I got the 1080 hybrid kit for $100, but now the price seems to be closer to $120 everywhere versus the Ti kit for $160 so it may be worth $40 to not have to do any modifications yourself.

Temps are around 50-55 C range under full load in demanding games. It did not allow me to overclock any higher than the default cooler, but it also no longer downclocks significantly from heat.

Considering all of the after market TI's have a ton of thermal headroom and are almost all voltage limited, I can't see water being praticle unless someone's wants a complete water system and an overal quiet system.

I always use the power cables to create some extra support. Seems to work fine. Might use some fishing wire for this one since it seems like the card is extremely heavy.

There is rarely a difference between brands with AIB air cooled cards. Even a water cooled AIB card, that is binned, will only get you MAYBE +10%.

Just ordered the Aorus. I'm pumped but what can or should I expect from a gigabyte gpu, just pure badassery? I haven't went from evga in a long time.. But this thing looks damn awesome.

I was a pure EVGA guy for a long time (460 > 580 > 690). But the Gigabyte Windforce 980 GTX has been the finest card I have ever owned. Thing is just dead silent and keeps incredibly cool.

Hoping the Aorus is just as good.

Managed to snag a regular Aorus 1080Ti. Will go pick it up tomorrow at Canada Computers.

Don't think the difference with the Extreme was worth it.

It was only like $50 more, at least in the U.S. I went with the xtreme because I'm already spending $700 so what's $50 more lol

In Canada, with the price gouging going on and the exchange rate, it's 100$ more :p

And the differences are too slight to even warrant the difference for me.

The RGB backplate will be hidden by my sound card, the bigger copper backplate piece has been proven to make pretty much no difference and I still get the custom PCB and increased power limit :)

I love my 1080 but this is the upgrade I been dying for.. Damn I'm pumped, love seeing the good reviews on the Aorus. The card just looks so slick, I love it.

Doing the same upgrade. 1080 FTW to 1080Ti Aorus.

Since I'm gaming at 1440P 165Hz, well worth the investment :D

Looks like I can get a MSI GeForce GTX 1080Ti ARMOR 11G OC for £712 (£62 more than my 1080 last year). Worth the buy? I'm not too fond of OC'd GPU's but I guess I can unclock it if needs be.

Scratch that. Looks like it runs hot judging by reviews.

Other than typical evga support which is most likely tops, is there anything that anyone foresees EVGA's ftw3 doing better than the Aorus? I still have mine pre ordered but just curious. I have a feeling I'm gonna be In heaven with the Aorus, but still it's weird jumping brands when I've been an evga guy for so long.

So many of the AiB cards are going to be impossible to fit in my RVZ02 case. The Gaming X can't fit due to its width, so I'm sure the Aorus would be too big.

Yeah, I put it in a mate's PC and nothing changed. I'll begin the RMA process once I have a replacement. In additional to being able to use Windows, I can also still play games... it's just that my options are limited to much older titles as everything is done via the CPU, haha. Maybe I'll revisit the original Age of Empires/Rise of Rome.

The Gigabyte Aorus Extreme was available on Newegg again earlier so I went ahead and grabbed it. Strix sells out in like 20 seconds, as much as I liked my 1080 Strix I wasn't going to put up with that shit. The Aorus seems to be very good too although reviews are sparse at the moment.

AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11G bought. Should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Non-Xtreme Edition. Will be interested to see if Gigabyte are really on the ball with OC potential or if I can push it to that standard anyway.
