Performance slightly favours the PS5 but image quality I think is identical.Saw some images comparing the versions favoring the PS5 version, is this true? No idea where it's from.

PS5 drops frames too.Cross-post from the other thread:
Internal resolutions and framerates:
- PS5: 1080p - 24fps cutscenes, 30fps gameplay with frame pacing issues.
- Series X: 1080p - 24fps cutscenes, 30fps gameplay with drops.
- Series S: 720p-756p (along with reduced world detail, reduced pedestrian/car count, less geometry and more aggressive LOD) - 24fps cutscenes, 30fps gameplay with drops.
But I thought the Series S was able to do everything that the Series X can do except in 1080p ....Internal resolutions:

We knew this but people was living in denial listening to Phil's PR talk about "scaling" .....Great vid. So series S got more drawbacks than just resolution
That’s weird. Series s is clearer then x.There are DF shots.
I wouldn't read too much into it, personally. When you're streaming in (potentially) thousands of textures then it's often just chance that decides which textures get streamed in first. It's probably just an artifact of streaming more than anything else.I never looked at these details but I noticed in the videos that PS5 looked closer to reality for some reason but I was thinking maybe it was just the difference in the settings it's not big enough to clearly point it out in motion but its there.
The XSS has the same performance SSD but streaming smaller assets so it won't be bottlenecked by the drive compared to a XSX. Pop in in other sections may not be SSD streaming related but GPU related. Multiple aspects can create pop in.Would have to be a weird bug if legit. I doubt the XSS would outperform the XSX (as pointed out in the first shot) as a standard point of operation. Pop-in is generally a little worse on XSS in most of the comparisons.
Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sony Santa Monica, Infinity Ward and several other studios like Crystal Dynamics and Xbox's own Initiative are based out of LA. They do hire hollywood artists. Jason Rubin started hiring Hollywood talent at Naughty Dog way back in the early 2000s. He was adamant about hiring expensive artists because he knew even back then that they needed to compete with Hollywood. The fact that this was created by, as he said, creative film makers, shows me hat video game developers need to step their game up.
Are all the bright, young creative minds going into the film world rather than video game development?
there are like six threads about this game. this is the comparison thread. My first thought: "This looks incredible! Let's see how people feel about it on GAF"...I login and people are discussing 8x magnified pictures and whatnot, war never changes I suppose.
The demo would have been better without the film grain effect though.
I assume film grain effect is there to cover for the relatively low rendering resolution. And because the demo is supposed to promote a filmMy first thought: "This looks incredible! Stalker 2 is coming in April. That was pretty wild. "Played" on a 70 than a 55 inch. The 70" was great but the 55" was jaw dropping good.
Surely the games can't look quite that good but a few videos I seen from last night are trending towards it. How long until we see a UE5 big budget game. I don't care what it is I'm buying it.

Try this one:
I mean the technical question. It's a freeware tech demo are you Entirely detached from reality?
Nope.I wonder if GTA 6 will be made using unreal 5. This demo is amazing.
Doubt it. Will be an evolution of their engine for RDR2.I wonder if GTA 6 will be made using unreal 5. This demo is amazing.
It is called RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) and it is developed by RAGE Technology Group.Doubt it. Will be an evolution of their engine for RDR2.
$300 device doing things last generation consoles can't. It is damn impressive and I can't find any sources saying it would only have resolution drawbacks.Great vid. So series S got more drawbacks than just resolution
Name one hardware feature the XSS lacks the XSX has. People swear they are making a revelation pointing out the XSS runs games at lowered settings. This seems to be a perfect case of scaling especially since you can't run this game on last gen consoles at all. It's up to developers to use the features they are offered. But I thought the Series S was able to do everything that the Series X can do except in 1080p ....
We knew this but people was living in denial listening to Phil's PR talk about "scaling" .....
i wouldn't expect a ton of games in the next 2-3 years to be utilizing lumen and nanite. Plenty of games in production today will not be taking advantage of these features. The games using them now are way in their infancy. Even if an upcoming game is using UE5 like Hellblade II it's a good chance it's not using nanite/lumen, but who knows. These types of experiences of 1080p 30 fps and all the UE5 bells and whistles will be very rare.UE5 looks amazing, but this has me wondering if we're going back to 1080p this gen as more demanding games start coming out and really pushing the system like this. I'd love to know how this runs at 4K on a RTX 3090.
Really depends. does rockstar have a nanite equivalent? you can get ray traced lighting and reflections in any engine, but nanite is a beast and i highly doubt teams like Rockstar, Naughty Dog, and Ubisoft Montreal can implement something like this to their engines.I wonder if GTA 6 will be made using unreal 5. This demo is amazing.
Here’s the thing. You would have never known the wiser if someone never told you. That’s the point of good reconstruction techniques.UE5 looks amazing, but this has me wondering if we're going back to 1080p this gen as more demanding games start coming out and really pushing the system like this. okay, i hear u dude, but i just want to be clear... it's not a game, it's an interactive cutscene with some extra toys stuck to it, so comparing it to the order 1886, a full-fledged game, is... like comparing a drawing of a flower to a flower... i dunno how to say itI mean the technical question.
Reminds me of The order ....
Amazing graphics, but limited gameplay.
ExactlyLooks fucking awsome! one of the most impressive thing i've seen, it's just a taste of what's to come come
OH it's 1080p, sooo ugly , burn it !
you right about that.okay, i hear u dude, but i just want to be clear... it's not a game, it's an interactive cutscene with some extra toys stuck to it, so comparing it to the order 1886, a full-fledged game, is... like comparing a drawing of a flower to a flower... i dunno how to say it
agreed...Here’s the thing. You would have never known the wiser if someone never told you. That’s the point of good reconstruction techniques.
It’s not even close to the same as 1080p native visually in comparison on final image display.
totally with u there.you right about that.
Its a shame is just a interactive cutscene.... i wish this Matrix game.... and im a person that its not a Matrix fan.
I'm done.
Framerate during open world free roam looks better on PS5, but NXGamer didn't compare framerate in that part apparently, only in the cinematic part.

My post here, September 10, 2020:
I find it interesting how it's become a "4K box" verse a "1080p box". Microsoft's messaging has really been effective on this one.
What happens if a developer -- like anyone using Unreal 5 -- decides to output in 1440p or 1080p on the PS5 and X because they're pushing nanite or have a novel lighting solution they want to exploit that takes a lot of shader performance up? What resolution will it run at on the S then? What experience will that provide? What else will have to be cut in order to get something running on the S?
I think these are serious questions that could hinder developers ability to craft the types of games they desire.
The Xbox One was running at sub HD resolutions for an entire generation. With decent reconstruction, I don't see the big deal. The Series S is an abomination. I've been saying this for sometime.
It was clear to anyone thinking about this situation logically and without bias. That stupid machine is going to be a fucking albatross.
Film grain is a good to have feature to introduce dithering.I assume film grain effect is there to cover for the relatively low rendering resolution. And because the demo is supposed to promote a film
Maybe... We'll see what they say. The framerate looks clearly better on PS5 in free roam sections though.
Or is this confirmation bias too (see link I gave above for the source video) ?
Yep. Resolution is the most overrated thing about video game graphics. I'd take higher fidelity assets over resolution any day.“4K” guys use DLSS 99% of the time, and gush about it. For good reason, love the tech. Nobody has a leg to stand on in current year now when it comes to resolutions.
Look like a bunch of damned clowning ass goofy bitch fools, otherwise.
Nobody guessed this was 1080p, just as with Returnal, and just as they were fooled with the original UE5 demo that ended up being 1440p. It’s just a redundant argument now.
Console has 3x less power than the Series X, and is rendering this demo at 720p rather than 1/3rd of the resolution. That’s why there’s other draw backs.Great vid. So series S got more drawbacks than just resolution
I'm gonna try to make this quick, but you're going completely off the deep end again.Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sony Santa Monica, Infinity Ward and several other studios like Crystal Dynamics and Xbox's own Initiative are based out of LA. They do hire hollywood artists. Jason Rubin started hiring Hollywood talent at Naughty Dog way back in the early 2000s. He was adamant about hiring expensive artists because he knew even back then that they needed to compete with Hollywood.
This demo was made by Hollywood artists at Weta Digital AND folks over at Epic who are obviously not filmmakers.
The reason why you havent seen anything look this good on consoles is because of lack of ambition from the studio leads like Cory Barlog who admitted to making the decision to make GOW last gen (second time he's done this btw), as well as from execs like Herman Hurst, Matt Booty, Phil Spencer and Jim Ryan who wanted to make more money selling cross gen games instead of pushing the medium. The talent is there, but they are forced to slave away on 1.3 and 1.8 tflops consoles just so their bosses can get a yacht for Christmas.
Say what you will about Bethesda's quality control or lack thereof, but Todd Howard made the decision to go next gen only way back in 2017. His next gen only game will be one of the first ones out, albeit still in late 2022. And same goes for Ubisoft, derided by the entire gaming community as soulless open world producers, they are going to have a next gen only Avatar ready in 2022. That E3 trailer no longer looks too good to be true now, does it?
I am glad Epic has made not one but two demos showing whats possible on next gen consoles. It gives consumers an insight into just how corrupt and greedy this industry has become. We wont get visuals like this from first party for at least another year or maybe two when Spiderman 2 and Hellblade 2 launch in 2023. 3 years after launch.
Console has 3x less power than the Series X, and is rendering this demo at 720p rather than 1/3rd of the resolution. That’s why there’s other draw backs.
The Series X is running this at 1080p. The Series S is 1/3rd the power of the Series X, running the demo at 720p (or just less than half the resolution). They need to make up the difference, if they’d chosen to run the demo at 540p or something you’d be in here laughing at that too.But I thought the Series S was able to do everything that the Series X can do except in 1080p ....
We knew this but people was living in denial listening to Phil's PR talk about "scaling" .....
The frametime graph is nigh literally never flat....how is that favoring the PS5?Performance slightly favours the PS5 but image quality I think is identical.
