Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Played through until I got out of the sewers and I'm absolutely slapjawed at how beautiful this is. I went back and watched the sewer section on YouTube before jumping in and it's hard to believe. Gunna take work off tomorrow.

Side note: using a Dualsense, what are your alls key bindings? I'm not sure I like the default button map.

This is all very serious for you huh? From the OP not containing your advertising material to getting aggrieved about green rat jokes.

Not suspicious at all, no sir.
Aggravated? More irritated but above all sad for you.

My advertising? Seriously dude chill out - some people actually thank me for sharing this additional info that for some reason get some people unhappy.

How has the leveling been changed? Do enemies still level with you, just less, or...?
They changed how you assign attribute points when leveling up. They are no longer tied to major skills and you can put those points in whatever attribute you want.

About the level scaling for the enemies, no idea.

Those aren't platforms. That's like saying "yeah you included PS5 but not the Gamestop store where I bought it".
Just following official press release (below). In addition OP mentions only steam (not PC) - is steam a platform then? Steam is more relevant to your comment than what I have posted.

  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is out today for Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and the Xbox App for Windows PC), cloud, and PlayStation 5. It's available day one with Game Pass, and is an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

It really should

goblins, arachnids, atronachs, daedras, ghosts, zombies, wraiths, lich, minotaurs, ogres, skeletons, spriggans and others, and attacking them with spells or conjured minions or weapons/armor, and explore magic ruins or parallel worlds, etc, is anywhere near sword clashing with the 100th dude in metal armor or bandit you encounter and explore to find "cabins in the wood".

Really not the same craving. As much as I love KCD, really not even in the same recommendation range.

If we are going to exclude KCD2 on the grounds that it lacks fantasy elements it can barely be compared to any other major open world RPGs, which seems kind of unfair to it imo.

Like I said, I think theres plenty of crossover appeal between Elder Scrolls and KCD. Two open world first person RPGs where you run around forests, fields, medieval villages, towns, castles etc getting quests from NPCs, fighting stuff with swords, axes, arrows, riding horses etc etc. KCD is just a more realistic and mechanically deep interpretation of that. Even taking into account the fantasy elements (or lack thereof) i'd still expect someone that likes an Elder Scrolls game to find at least equal crossover appeal in KCD as they would in say Baldurs Gate. I dont think the lack of fantasy would be a dealbreaker to many people.

Anyway, bringing it back the core point - I was initially responding to the dude literally asking if he should play this or KCD2, and imo, the latter is obviously the better choice. I dont think Oblivion having fantasy elements should allow it to bypass obvious unfavourable comparisons to KCD. Oblivion was awesome in 2006, but Oblivion in 2025 basically with a new coat of paint and much of its now very dated elements intact? no, its not as good as KCD2, or particularly close.

Agree to disagree I guess.

Nah I don't think Steam should count when talking about platforms either, we agree on that. Imo it should be consoles and PC, nothing else.

If you've followed all the instructions I posted make sure it's set to "windowed" mode in game and then select the custom resolution you've created from there (while also having your desktop set to the same custom resolution).

Thanks for the clarification. Oddly, I see two instances of 2560x1440p. Reviewing the configs now, think i borked something

Assuming you set up the custom resolution correctly and you set it to one or two vertical pixels less then you should have a resolution on that list that reads 2560x1438 (or 2560x1439).

lol the moment you leave the cave, its running like shit, stutters all around.
engines change, but bethesda remains.

Thats as far as i got last night on base PS5 running in performance mode. No stutters whatsoever, the game looks and runs great on base PS5 in performance mode from what i've seen so far.

A day later, everyone else is talking about the game, but yet you're still going with this crap.

Seek help.

Man it is just shocking how ugly the nature can look so often. This is with HW Lumen enabled and set to high.

Inside cities and interiors look great, but this is doing my head in. The game has zero atmosphere.
And of course, the stutters. Fast SSD, 3D V-Cache, who cares? Stutter City.

How about you go take a nap, level up, repair your gear and stop complaining? :lollipop_tongue:

But yeah you are right, lighting looks off outside unless it's a bright sunny day, in which case it looks great. I wonder if this is something mods can fix beyond just forcing sunny weather everytime.

There is a bug with Lumen, dont use. Use normal raytracing and it will look good. When using lumen the shading for the vegetation dissapears

Btw has anyone managed to find a place that looks like an actual forest? I went to the place called on the map "Great Forest" or some such but it was nothing of the sort.

Sorry but what do you mean by normal RT? I could swear it only allows for HW Lumen and SW Lumen.

Nothing like that in the game I'm afraid, which is even funnier if you delve into TES lore becasue apparently it's supposed to be the greenest, most full of trees shit you would ever seen.

There are two types of raytracing, lumen and hardware raytracing. Use hardware raytracing so there are shadows and ambient occlusion in the trees and vegetation. If you use lumen, the shadows dissapears and it looks like crap, like that picture he posted

HW RT is labelled also as Lumen for me.

In any case that shit's too much of a performance hog for me, might have to cope with the SW RT.

So essential settings for me are: Turn off Screen Space Reflections

Set View Distance to Ultra(Fixes low animation at close distance)
Textures too Medium(I have 12gb GPU)
Shadows too Medium
AA Solution set too OFF.
DLSS Set too Balanced

And now it does run flawlessly on my 4070ti, and Intel i5. Hardware Raytracing at High.

Okay I have it in Spanish and its written differently

So dont use the one you have active and activate the one on top, Lumen Hardware RT. When using this, tress and vegetation look great, if you dont use it, you will get this issue I mentioned.

What is the deal with people having problems choosing the resolution on pc?

Better wait for a patch?
(I'm not gonna do the devs job and go crazy trying to fix the damn game by myself).

How's the spanish translation? I try to play games in english to practice and learn but if the translation's fine I might change it later on if I'm tired of english.

It's missing alot of AO it seems, cloudy overcast sky causes everything look super flat without accurate AO, characters look bad too in when shade... maybe when everything uses path tracing or similar tech in the future they will look good

This is going to look outstanding once it's dialled in:

Very much in a beta phase at the moment (multiple comments saying it crashes at certain points with this enabled for now) but if you've used her ultra+ mods for other games (hogwarts, cyberpunk, etc) you know where this is heading.

Did you just called him cojones?
lmao

We use lots of genitalia for our assertions. Cojonudo is kinda like "fucking awesome", coñazo (big pussy) is something that's a bother or boring, la polla (the dick) is also something awesome. And so on.

I'm very afraid that with all of the complaints regarding expert difficulty, they will probably nerf it.

I find it to be the perfect difficulty in which I had to struggle early on and play very creatively at the beginning in order to get strong enough to be on equal footing with enemies.

It also makes me utilize the dodge system and think about spacing, attack timing, prep for certain battles, taking cover behind an object when a fireball is hurled at me, or running away to regroup or lead enemies into a trap when outnumbered, etc.

It feels like a daunting, but very winnable and satisfying RPG experience.

Does it feel like elex on max difficulty where you get killed by simple rats for the first 10-20 hours?

I kinda like to get absolutely fucked for the first part of a game until i make big progress, it make feel progression more worthy but i'm not sure if it can be too bad with such a clunky ass unprecise combat.

On expert (hard) you take 3.0x times the damage. I almost die of some rats during the tutorial, and the first few dungeons I've done have been really hard, to the point where I've downloaded a mod so expert is still harder than adept, but not so much.

The screenshot I took and on which you commented on had Lumen Hardware RT enabled and set to high. It still looks bad, even with it enabled. Just slightly less worse.

Interesting. Maybe under very specific light conditions it looks like that. In any case I think this game does not use UE5 as good as other titles like Avowed or Stalker 2

Hopefully modders can improve further the graphics

The stupid damn game either glitched or gave me a lvl 50 character to battle when I'm only lvl 2. Highwayman it was a kajit, it lost no health, even brought the battle to a guard and he also couldn't ding his health.

Sound good but like i said, combat being too clunky and unprecise could make unfair difficult even more unfair, same problem that elex had.

Like i can enjoy do no damage and being killed in 2 hit but not when t it's the control's fault more than mine.
