Oculus Rift ships with Xbox One controller, mic and "Oculus Remote" (details)

The thing with a stand isn't the mic guys, it's the camera. The mic is built into the headset.

Got the mail:

What’s in the box?
Rift includes the headset with built-in headphones and mic, sensor, and an Xbox One controller. The controller is perfect for a variety of games, including Lucky’s Tale, the amazing VR platformer developed by Playful, that we’re including free with every Rift.

The Oculus Remote is a new input device we designed to make it simple and intuitive to navigate VR experiences. With Remote, you can easily browse the Oculus store, explore 360 video content in Oculus Video, or experience a wide range of VR games and entertainment. It is the easiest way to introduce non-gamers to VR.

When you pre-order Rift, you’ll also secure your place in line for Touch pre-orders later this year.

As we all know from the other thread, it's $599 plus shipping here.

Rift me if old.

A sensor designed for VR
Our sensor tracks constellations of IR LEDs to translate your movements into VR. Place the sensor in front of you and you’re all set. Its stand is ideal for most setups and its standard 1/4 20 mount works with most tripods. The constellation tracking system is designed to track you whether you’re sitting down or standing up.

Great games deserve a great controller
We include an official Xbox One wireless controller with Rift. It’s one of the best controllers in the world, and it’s perfect for a wide range of games and experiences.

Intuitive exploring with Oculus Remote
By putting navigate, home, back, select, and volume controls at your fingertips, Oculus Remote lets you easily explore and interact while inside VR.

Integrated VR audio
Rift features an integrated VR audio system designed specifically to make you feel as though you’re truly somewhere else – giving you a sense of space and depth. The audio arms are removable so you can use your own headphones too.

Also:

Bundles that include an Oculus Ready PC and a Rift will be available for pre-order in February starting at $1499.

For $600 they couldn't bother including the wireless adapter for the controller or does it come standard in the box as well?

Edit: phew it's included, good.

Pre ordered it as soon it went up. (via mobile site)

Not sure if I want to keep or cancel it. I mean, $599 is pretty steep. :( Well, I still have time until March to decide.

So do you not get the touch controllers for the 599 price? Just secure a place for pre order?

Rethinking my plans on buying a rift. Might wait until next iteration for the complete package.

Pricing issues aside, I find the sales pitch a bit amusing in the blog as stating:

"dozens of full-length, AAA games designed for VR are coming to Rift, with more than 100 titles available by the end of 2016, including Minecraft!" [insert picture of minecraft logo]

As far as I am concerned name checking a title we haven't seen in action along with "100" others and "dozens" of AAA games is pointless when we haven't even seen many of them announced is wrong. Starting pre-orders without all that info and just a handful of titles is bizarre to me. It would make a bit more sense once that library of content is more clearly outlined.

It's probably a catch-22, good sales will entice more developers and that will feed back into the rift, etc.

It's not quite that. I understand many enthusiasts are onboard regardless. However for everyone else, not knowing the content outside of a handful and starting pre-orders is just ridiculous. Of course, people can wait till they actually announce them, but is just bizarre to me

Well, they got the aesthetics down, I'll give them that. It looks quite compact and simple to set up.

VR porn is ready, YouTube is ready, plenty of none gaming content enough to push some over I guess.

The remote is a nice surprise for those times when you don't need a full controller. The box is much sleeker than I had imagined as well. I really like the box that DK1 came with so going back to that after the DK2's cardboard box is a welcome decision.

Minecraft is one of the most popular games on planet Earth. It makes billions of dollars. There aren't many bigger games. That's why it was a big deal when it came to Xbox 360. That's why it was a big deal when Microsoft bought it. That's why it was a big deal when it came to Wii U. A massive world of endless user generated content is a perfect fit for VR.

You can see the line up on many sites out and about, and some of them are certainly AAA titles. Others are completely worthy even if they don't have AAA budgets.

title is kind of misleading, makes it sound like the IR camera on the stand is the mic they're shipping with lol

the mic and headphones are built into the rift itself

standard marketing boilerplate. oculus is part of the industry, too

Why'd they use a controller that has no motion sensors? Idiotic.

They're bundling in a controller at little expense to themselves to make the package seem more appealing. Many great VR games use a traditional controller. Motion controllers are coming later.

The controller is basically there to help justify the price. The package isn't expensive *because* of it. Same with the bundled games.

So much stupid ways to raise the price. Headset, Xbox One Controller with wireless adapter, Microphone, remote...
That could bring the price by 150 dollars to 200 dollars down.

But the price screams sticker shock. Why not do what every other product in the history of products that need other products to function does and make you purchase that seperately to keep that sticker shock price down? Not to mention just about everyone who has the PC to actually run this probably already has a controller lying around be it a XB1, DS4 or Steam controller. So bundling in extra things that people might already own for an inflated price is kind of dumb.

The mic is built into the headset, it isn't the thing on the stand.

The Xbox One controller is probably only around $15-20 of the cost, if that. I can get Xbox One controllers directly from Microsoft for $20. Same goes for the adapter.

So, I doubt they could get it down as much as you think.

I wouldn't call the already hundreds of supported games just a handful. Even most the games I just bought on the Steam sale have official Rift support. Everything from Subnautica to Euro Truck 2.

You've got it backwards. The remote, Xbox One controller and the microphone do very little to increase the price of the package. They are value adds to make the package more palatable.

Where is the webcam supposed to sit? Assuming you'd want it directly in front of you (until you get a second one), does that mean moving it in front of your monitor each time you want to use it?

SKU without the XB1 controller please. I already have plenty of those laying around.
They REALLY need to provide this option. The Rift is so expensive, bundling in extras that a big portion of the audience do not need inflates the price even further very needlessly.

I have an XBox One Elite controller, thanks Oculus.
