"Right when they came on the ice. CBC showed it, dunno if VS did."

Ah, I missed the first like two minutes of the game and I had only had versus to watch :( Still funny though. :D Go Fleury.

"He must have gone to the "Fight Through a Check Like Hossa" school of hockey. :lol "

:lol Maybe, but I was like holy shit that's not a dive? It was so over the top I didn't know whether to laugh or be angry.

There is no way that this series is going to go less than the full 7 games. As long as the Pens don't allow the Wings to set up in the zone, basically the way they played in the first period last night, they'll be fine. The Pens didn't show up for the 2nd and 3rd periods last night...

The Wings didn't LET them show up for the 2nd and 3rd. There is a areason the Wings won the President's Trophy, playing in the far superior conference to boot.

Yeah. I dunno...I didn't think they were dominated THAT badly. They hit a post, had some chances in tight, and were swarming all over Detroit after they scored the second goal, but there was just no consistency in their effort. Malkin seems to be asleep right now, and the D was out to lunch for a lot of the night. I thought Fleury, Crosby, and Hossa all played well. I know "well" won't cut it though. The Pens are going to have to be spectacular if they hope to get back into this one. Detroit is scary good.

Here's something to use for shit talkers from this point on. :p

I think the Wings played as fluid and dominant of a game last night as I think they will play. That said, I don't think the Pens played the best game they are capable either. I look for them to rebound and give a better match to Detroit now that they know what they are up against...

No, the Pens didn't show for the last 40 minutes. Period. In the first period, when the Wings had the puck, the Pens went up to them, and the Wings threw the puck away. They didn't do this in the remaining 2 periods. Why do you thing the SOG was so close in the first, and then so Wings sided for the remaining?

I mean, Colorado even being swept, gave them a better performance. Except for the final 8-2 drubbing the Wings gave them, the rest of the series were one goal games. Even after Detroit scored 4 goals, Colorado was able to almost catch up. And that was with a decimated team! Does anyone honestly think that the Pens are not a more talented team with hardly any injuries and are not going to put up a fight?

This is the dream matchup for the NHL. Do you honestly think the NHL will let this series be over in less than 7 games now that they are pulling in respectable crowds watching in the US? This is a goldmine for them. It'll go the distance.

The Pens had a load of PPs in the first, which boosted their shot count. They played really hard for a good spurt in the third as well, so I am not as convinced that the Pens didn't show up. The Wings shut them down really well. I will agree that they were completely missing in the second and for the majority of the third though. Not enough puck movement and not enough foot movement either. They need to get back to dumping and chasing the puck hard in the offensive zone. We need more ferocity in our game, period.

I'm going to plead for a stop with this nonsense. If the NHL was so smart at rigging games, we would have had Mario vs. Gretzky in the finals every other year. The Rangers would have won more than once every 1000 years, Quebec, Winnipeg and Hartford would still have teams, heck probably even the goons in Philly would have been thrown a bone at least once in awhile. In essence, they wouldn't be the bastard child of the pro sports world that they have been for pretty much their whole existence. Some of you guys act like Bill Belichick is the NHL commisioner. :D

This is no where near the dream matchup for the NHL. The dream matchup for them will always be LA vs the Rangers. The current series may be good for hockey fans but that does not mean its the NHL dream matchup. NHL wold kill to have LA and the Rangers in the final.

no dream would be NYR vs Toronto (oops it cant happen sorry)

The Pittsburgh Penguins...are in trouble. A game like that makes you wonder if this series will make it to a fifth game.

Wow. I can't believe how hard the Pens got bitch slapped.

If Wings sweep this series, I think I'm gonna stop watching sports for a few years.

It wont, making my "Wings in 4" prediction come true!

why? Because one team has the talent to be dominant and win? Did anyone stop watching boxing because of Mike Tyson's dominance, or Tiger Woods dominance? No because their supremacy made it more popular.

Pens managed only a total of 7 total shots after the 1st, even if they weren't playing well that's still pretty telling. Detroit's too disciplined, aside from the the clusterfuck of the 1st period thanks to the bad officiating they didn't take many penalties and if the pens want to have any chance they need to beat them 5 on 5

Because I already have beliefs that sports are a waste of time to watch, this would just make it easier to stop watching.

fans are still in denial and think pens have a chance.
Just to be safe, Detroit should name Kris Draper as the captain.

No, they need to play simple hockey.

- No more long cross ice passes
- Tape to tape passes or slightly ahead only
- No more fancy moves in the defensive zone like the one Malkin did that cost them the 2nd goal -- get the puck out
- Clear communication between defensemen and goalie
- No more lazy ass puck dumps they have to clear the zone
- No more putting the puck where Osgood can come out to play it
- Line changes only when its deep or the Pens have possession
- Gary Roberts is needed so get him suited up
- MUST finish checks
- When Detroit has the puck, skate towards the player who has possesion, Detroit just gets rid of it quickly
- Need to play a 2-2-1 style game, defense stays back, wingers in the middle, center at the front like this:
Code:
               Defense Winger
Goalie Center
               Defense Winger

They have to go back to basic hockey. They didn't come out for the 2nd and 3rd. Period. Oh, they applied a little pressure for a minute or two in the 3rd, but that doesn't equate to showing up.

Okay chief, whatever you say.

Just one last thing I want to add:

The Pens just need to forget that they are in the Stanley Cup finals and just think it's another hockey game. It's easy to get bedazzled, but they just have to focus on the game they are in, not where they are.

This is a really dumb statement. This is the playoffs, man. The Wings lost 2 games to the Preds, for christ sakes. Teams are going to have bad games. The Pens have way too much talent to get swept.

But whatever, if the Pens win the next game 4-1, GAF will get all reactionary again and say the Wings are fucked.

But see I'm still in the camp that doesn't quite believe that the NHL is writing a script for the outcome of games ala pro wrestling, so no, I don't see what "The NHL" can do about it, really.

for what it's worth, i haven't seen anyone give it to the wings like the pens did in that first period. 12 shots, end to end action... thought this series might actually have been close. then the wings decided to shut it down. what does this mean? crosby and therrien's media spin on how they just played bad is sounds like bullshit, the wings took over after taking everything they had. that's just how i'm seeing it though. should be a fun one tomorrow...pens have got to play more disciplined, that's for sure

what's with scott burnside of ESPN and his love for penguins? Every fucking article on ESPN is about how penguins must play in order to turn around the series against Red Wings.

Did Mario buy this channel or something?

To boot, every Pens fan that talks about the first period acts as if it was 5-on-5 action the whole time, rather than the Pens being on the power play for 6:11 seconds and the Wings actually being the only team to score (despite a ridiculous wave-off).

Shit, the first 10 minutes was just the Wings going "OK, what do we have here" and then they took control.

In 5-on-5 action, the Pens had 9 - count them, NINE - shots on goal the entire game. The Wings - 26.:lol

This playoff year will be complete if and when Sid cries his eyes out on national tv when he realizes the Cup is lost. He can thm concentrate on the bulge behind Mario's cup.

I don't think many will really argue this point.

If Malkin and Sykora do not step it up, this will be a very brief series. They have been invisible for about 5 games straight now.

Detroit hit two posts AND had a goal called off.

Read the other posts in this thread, Im not the only one who saw a
penguin squad simply unable to put any sort of sustainable offensive pressure on Detroit.

The wings as a team are in the zone, they know their strategy
and play it with high efficiency.
