Official DS Hype thread... (no 56K)

The other thing I noticed while playing the DS is it takes alot more focus to play than normal games.

Initially thought 2 screens would make things more intuitive but I dont think it does.
It takes some serious gaming skills to keep up with action going on on both screens.

Developers will need to take this into account. Ideally you would need to focus on one screen only while playing, occasionally switching to the other screen to check/change stuff.

Any news about a tentative PAL date?

I will take rampant speculation!

Only speculation so far is from MCV, which suggests March and £129.99.

Easter sounds about right, but £129.99 is the equivalent of about $240, so I hope to god that goes down before launch. They do need differentiation from GBA:SP, which is £70, so I'm hoping for a £99.99/149Euro launch price.

Touch screen control is intuitive and a godsend.
The system rocks.
Face buttons are too small.

IAWTP. The system does rock. It seems nice and lightweight too. very well designed. Doesn't seem like it'll overheat either.

I agree about the small buttons but I can get used to that.

I think playing the hunters demo sold me on getting Asphalt GT as one of my launch titles. I love the ultra smooth framerate.

60fps racing game with action going on on both screens is gonna be pretty sweet.

Now my launch lineup will be
Asphalt GT
Feel the Magic
Super Mario

That should be a nice variety.

that is a nice variety... not much of a racing fan though so I'll probably be replacing Asphalt with Mr. Driller 9 days later.

Mr. Driller looks awesome too.

I've never wanted so many launch games in my life. Proabably because of the DS has so many new features, I want to see how all of these games play. I even want to try Sprung :(

Damn i'm soooo hyped about this system, haven't been this hyped since lik-sang
started shipping my GameCube. O well just 21 nights to try my best to go to sleep.

I'll porbably go to hell for saying this but i wish my neighbours came home from
Florida just a week earlier. Damn it sucks to live in Europe.
Hope they don't let there 2 year old granddaughter play with my DS.

*bam*
' was this screen all black and cracked when we bought it? "
:lol

I don't want to tell you what to buy, but from what I played, I would seriously save some of that cash and put it towards Mr. Driller. I've said it a lot recently, but it needs to be said again: people need to look past the graphics in Urban Asphalt GT. Of all the games I played, it's the one I liked the least (to be fair, I didn't get a chance to try Sprung though.)

I hope you preordered you DS, or your neighbors dont mind standing in line on launch day because with limited shipments and all, it's gonna be pretty hard to find.

No i didn't but they are in Boca Raton, Florida....most stores i called did'nt
even know what a Nintendo DS was. i think they'll be able to
get one from wal-mart, toyRus, kmart or costco on sunday morning.

I arranged with a guy from Best Buy that if i would call back on saturday
he would hold on to a DS with Mario 64 for me, so my neighbours could pick it up.

Anyone in the Boca area who can tell me anything about the DS hype there?

I read your impressions on N-sider. Are you sure you were playing it right? You know it like burnout. You have to make close calls to build up your boost meter.

Just got through playing this thing. BELIEVE THE HYPE!! I almost wasted my entire lunch break playing with the thing. People kept walking up and saying how cool it looked, and that they arte going to get one. I wish the display it is on was bigger, but the lights on it look pretty cool. :) also I was seriously surprised by the graphics! Hardly any pixelation at all on the screen! It looks a lot better than it does on movies and things. Can't wait to cop this now. :)

If its 19.99 I'm getting it for the Animal Crossing/collection features, the fun chara design and to support WayForward.

Hell if its only $20....

WTF?!? Nintendo is playing dirty!

They also had Spider-Man 2 and Mario 64 but said that Mario 64 was street-dated so it couldn't be sold until the 21.

This was the same Game Crazy who said they would sell the systems as soon as they got them too. Bastards, must've heard back from corporate or something.

I played Hunters today and I wasn't pleased with it. The game looks pretty good but it doesn't feel like it's worth owning; it feels like a crappy game you would play on Newgrounds. The DS is tiny and nice which is great. The interface looks like shit. Pictochat is pretty cool.

Wow, I need classes to be finished so I can hit the mall.

you know that hunters is just a demo, right? :\

Maybe I missed it... but what happened to playing people over the internet when connecting to a wireless router? Haven't heard it mentioned since E3. :(

Oh come on. You have to roll with the punches.

There wasn't any "punch" to your second image, Society...

No games use that connection yet. Nintendo has indicated that games will, in the future, and that they think the 'net play is a big draw for the handheld, but... It is Nintendo.

Yeah, the demo does a good job of showing DS's 3D and the touch screen, but it's not fun at all. If Nintendo's smart they'll replace it with SM64DS or Wario Ware ASAP.

Have you played it multiplayer yet? Even with just two people, it's a lot of fun. And, I don't know if anyone realized it or not, but there is a combo system to shooting, based on your accuracy. Competing for high scores on the training levels is rather cool, too. There's more to it than just running around and shooting, though it doesn't much go beyond that. I think it's fun.

I didn't try multiplayer, my comments were regarding the single player portion. Can't imagine the multiplayer being that much better, considering how dull the action, enemies, and environments in single player were. I'll give it a shot if I see a dual DS setup, though.
