This new King Kong is tiny.

The new kong is like the same size as Mighty Joe Young!!!

I would have expected him to be bigger. Maybe they will fix it by the time it releases. I did like how well he recreated 1933 NYC.

Very Nice indeed!!!

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Just watched the full trailer-- I've never seen any King Kong movie nor am I familiar with the story, but I thought the movie looked pretty fucking cool. I don't understand why people here are giving it so much hate........... oh wait, I'm on GAF. :-/

"fix" it?

Except this is a remake of a 72 year old film. Looks hot though.

...and a bad film maker can crush the life out of the best dreams. You know that source material can bloom or die depending on the talent.

looked cool. The dinos didn't really seem to blend in well with the people though. Something seemed off about it. Jack Black is the motherfuckin man though.

Eh... looked too CG in the usual "uncanny valley" way (yes, that usually apllies to faces, but it can also apply to motion), and it didn't get me that excited about the movie. Watts looks great as Ann Darrow (which reminds me: too bad Fay Wray died before they could film the cameo Jackson wanted), but I'm not entirely convinced about Brody or Black. I'll still definitely see it, though.

Where is the hate? Not in this thread.

But I have to sound less optimistic than most. As a remake it looks good, but it may be weighed down too much by its source material to be truly spectacular. Time will tell.

King Kong vs. T-Rex. They could have just shown a few seconds of that and I would have been sold.

Overall, it looks fucking awesome. Only things that could possibly detract from this film are Jack Black (might not work for some people, but you can completely believe he's a sleaze) and the fact that black dude is impossibly fucked and is going to lose at least an arm against that raptor.

Looks pretty damn entertaining. This really is the next Blockbuster I'm excited for. I still can't get hyped about War of the Worlds, though I'll check it out. For some reason, now just doesn't seem the right time for another impersonal alien war fought for the sake of humanity. Just not anticipating it. King Kong looks like something I want to see though.

People gotta stop complaining about King Kong's size. The guy is big enough. He's as big as a dinosaur anyways.

Are you guys expecting he's as big as Godzilla or something?

Mighty Joe Young was much smaller. He wasn't much bigger than a person and not nearly big enough to hold someone in his hand.

I think Kong's size is closer to the 1933 one as opposed to the 1979 one that was GIANT. People may be remembering Kong's size from there which is the most recent version of Kong. They made him Godzilla size since they took out the dinosaurs in that movie.

You are correct. Jackson is staying true to the original, even reducing Kong's size from the horrible remake.

I specifically remember King Kong climbing the Empire State Building, with his toes grasping the top spire like a TOOTHPICK. 50 feet tall, my ass!

I guess blame the original.

Check out the original again. TCM is airing it quite often these days.

just from some brief google surfing, the only two sites i could find both actually listed him at 24 or 25 feet tall respectively. If you look at that pic of the ape with Fay Wray in his hands, that sounds about right. As for the Empire State building, I guess the original filmmakers weren't very consistent back in 1933. Can't blame Peter Jackson for their errors.

Yeah, which one of you bums wants to say that the ape on that building is the same size as in Jackson's flick? NONE? OKAY.

The ape on the stage is. Probably smaller too.

Who gives a crap about the ape on the stage. All everyone remembers is Kong climbing that fucking building and swatting at planes. He's huge!

So Fay Wray should be the size of an airplane too?

This is exactly what comes to mind when I hear the words 'King Kong'

Trailer was great but could've done with more Kong

Well, this Kong ain't no Leroy Brown, but he's still pretty cool.

The movie looks like great fun. Naomi Watts is perfect as Ann Darrow.

Well, that's kind of the point. It's a teaser.

Also, I think some of the complaints of "Kong is too small" will be alleviated once we see more footage, not just quick cuts and awkward freeze-frames. Remember when the first footage of Shelob was revealed? She looked tiny, but that wasn't really the case when all was said and done.

From the looks of it, I'd say Darrow's neck should be broken about a hundred times with Kong swinging her body around like a rag doll.

I dunno about this. It doesn't look like much at all has been changed from the original except for the use of modern technology and heaps more dinosaur encounters. The only thing I see is Darrow's film screaming being shot on land instead of during the voyage (or perhaps both) and the ship running aground, which obviously doesn't change much since we know it's in good enough shape to depart. The special effects animation looks pretty great, but the compositing and/or lighting seems off. Nothing new there. Same goes for Jackson's patented crazy aerial camera scanning the islanders' village just as he constantly used in LOTR for Sauron's fortresses and the huge zoom out from the island's cliffs. *barf* He needs to lock that down. I fear for the compositing of Ann Darrow in Kong's hands too. We know know WETA couldn't handle the hobbits climbing around on Treebeard. That shit looked horrible.

Clearly the islanders haven't changed much, except now they look even more satanic and savage. Looks like the plot devices are exactly the same, they stumble upon the islanders and disrupt their ceremony with the young girl and the islanders decide that because the ceremony has been ruined they need the white chick to appease Kong, hence a midnight raid on the ship. I can't wait to see modern critics tackle this movie. It could prove really interesting. I sure hope for Jackson's sake that he wasn't stupid enough to have the islanders speak a real language this time around.

Still, I'll probably see this, if only to critique the hell out of it.

Eh, it wasn't that great. CG looks pretty iffy and Kong is small. Jackson better clean this shit up or I'm going to feed him to a giant fucking ape.

I hope this ass raping of a movie dies a horrid death. I'm not going to be hoodwinked by War of the Worlds or King Kong. Give me some original fare or leave it alone.

if Kong was that big throughout the whole movie, he could just stomp on the Trex like a rodent. Woulnd't make for much of a fight. Not to mention, realistically, the Empire State Building would probably come tumbling down if a giant ape that big climbed all over it. I like the size they have him as now.

Looks kinda 'eh' to me right now. I want to be really excited for it, but something about it just isn't clicking yet. I have a feeling it's a movie that will come across better as a finished film, rather than a trailer. Plus, I kind of wish they'd kept the whole look of Kong underwraps, since I'm sure that's the concentration of the CGI team before the film's release.

I'm sure the dino CG is in early stages, just like Gollum was until near the release of Two Towers. Kong himself looks great, so I have faith in Weta.

Looks excellent, BTW. I like how they emphasized the adventure aspects, rather than just the Kong CG character. Score one for PJ, so far.

Hmm, I had high hopes for this film, but I think this trailer has now lowered my expectations by quite a bit. Oh well, hopefully it will be something good. Just not great. Anyways, if you look at the scene where there is a bunch of dinos in a stampede, you can glimpse that black dude jump kicking a raptor (?) in the head. Pretty funny if you ask me. :lol
