I haven't had time to talk about this game in-depth, but I just wanted to pop in to say I'm in love with it and it's probably one of my top 10 games of this year.

That's what I was thinking the whole time I played this last night. I still have a lot that i need to do with the game, but right now it's sitting in the top 10 for sure.

Shiskabooboo pinball fight? I don't know what is going on all I know is people keep dying.

The thing you're probably missing (assuming you read the God Memo) is
the rock in front of the fork. Send some guys up the middle to work on that early on, then when you get him to a low enough weight, hit him right into the middle there.

If I remember correctly,
you can only run up to the top of the board to break the rock that guards the fork when the screen goes dark.

This boss was probably the most frustrating boss fight in the game. I really disliked it despite it being rather unique.

Finally got around to beating Duvroc. The new cow cannon placement makes me very happy.

I think I need to check my quests for some guardians, since I don't like these random uncontrolled areas in the middle of my kingdom, though I'm guessing I will need a new job for that.

Is it worth wasting the money on the merchant building at this point?

Opinions are split, judging from my opinion and those in the topic already. Some regretted, some didn't.

I went for the merchant as soon as I had the opportunity. I couldn't stand to see those money purses lying around the map...taunting me.

I seem to remember that it was a pretty expensive process, but money's never too hard to come by in the game.

I would prioritise expanding the kingdom, though. Other new jobs are more immediately and obviously helpful, the extra cash the merchant brings is more of a nice bonus.

I got one almost right away. For the 1500 you spend you get about 9000 back from nearby areas. Easy money and well worth it from the start.

The merchants themselves are 1,500; I think the building was 15,000?

So I finally went to a funeral today. Was there an actual service? They were just standing around behind the church saying one of two lines. It was really weird hearing the kids in attendance say "hut-hut-hut".

I've just had the weirdest glitch happen to me. After defeating the first 3 kings and going through the tunnel, i decided to go back to the castle to cash in what I got. I went through the tunnel and the first thing i noticed was there was no cow cannon there. I walk a little further and the entire surrounding world was white, no image at all. There was music playing, but nothing outside that small area outside the tunnel was there, just pure white. I tried to walk in the white area but my people didn't follow me and I would just fall down infinitely.

Anyone know what's up? I have it installed in my external, so you think that could be it? I've got work in a bit so I can't really check to see if that is the problem.

So I finally beat the game after taking a week long hiatus. What a fantastic game, and the ending was rather sweet. Can't wait to see what these guys do next.

Nothing! The others are going back to their companies, Vanpool and Skip are making their own games, Kimura's going back to Punchline, and any sequel (he's said) will be Punchline + whoever he can convince again (i.e., different people). Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.

After reading one of your posts about Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, I went to look it up and found an article on Hardcore Gaming 101 about the developers and their games. I feel like I'm missing out, it's too bad none of them got localized except for Chulip, which I enjoyed.

I recommend making the merchant buildings, training 3-4 merchants (even though they are mostly useless) and only ever taking one out in your royal guard.

It's a down payment on the better equipment you'll get when you talk to them.

Oh, I forgot the joyous news that Merlan the grunt was resurrected a few days after her death, so no funeral was necessary. I had noticed my population pop back up to 60 a couple days after she died, but didn't think to look. Just happened to see her wander by on her guard rounds.

Went ahead and got a merchant, still have a few thousand bol left over, and all I have to build at the moment is more houses. I'll go recoup a bit of that with the two or three purses I've passed by so far.

That's an easy 9 million bol right there just from the purses. Make sure to carry a merchant around with you when you go traveling since they'll often discover holes that contain lots of bol.

Question: did you guys ignore the church whenever possible or pour resources into it?

I'm with the majority. Smart move.

And the other 2 main guys (Nishi and Kudou) aren't doing "real" games, anymore. *sniff* Well, hopefully games get their Criterion Collection someday.

Vanpool and skip games aren't real?

So I'm not very far into the game (just beat the Onii King) and I'm having trouble with the quests. I beat the Babysitter Onii by changing up my strategy, but I cannot make headway with the team of Killer Turnips (red ones with teeth.) Should I be using a different team? I have three archers and the rest soldiers, but the archers weren't very helpful in the times I tried it.

My strategy with the killer turnips was to run away.
Seriously - I just left it until later in the game when I had stronger troops. Otherwise it is a matter of an awful lot of patience: throw, recall, wait time and time again. Archers help a lot.

No, I meant the 2 main guys. Kenichi Nishi is doing small iPhone and DS distractions (some are good, small puzzle games, though), along with some animation work. Taro Kudou is making Tingle games, which allow him to be weird in some pretty tight constraints and styles.

Also, while flipping through stuff, apparently Vanpool and Little King's Story's art designer "designed the cover artwork for the album Half Asleep by Japanese electro outfit Swimmingpoo1," which I assume was what that Lullatone-like bonus video was all about. SPOILERS SPOILERS www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qgHV7yHr_U The original video was on his blog and is called "Bittersweet," apparently. SPOILERS SPOILERS

I wouldn't take on too many red turnips until you have hardened soldiers.

Which is...a while.

Even if you let the clock run out on a quest, it will eventually show back up.

In what way did Tingle limit Taro Kudou to tight constraints and styles? He never had a game before Tingle RPG, I've been playing it and it doesn't look like it limited them at all, they used that they wanted, where they wanted. Before that he worked on Endonesia and Coloball 2002, I don't know if he's been doing something else since the end of 2006 since it doesn't look like he directed Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love (Jun Tsuda did instead), but he's done quite a bit since he left Love-de-Lic. Since Kenichi Nishi left and started skip he worked on Giftpia, Chibi Robo (co-director), and Captain Rainbow (main scenario writer), although it's true since he made Route24 he hasn't been involved with skip projects as much to work on those small DS and iPhone games. Still, they've both been doing plenty since they left Love-de-Lic and I don't think either of them are in a position where they can't work on bigger projects anymore or couldn't if they really wanted to.

I just went through the credits for this and I chuckled when I saw Youichi Kawaguchi, the original director for this game, had only been given a Special Thanks, I guess he decided to step back to put his all into Kizuna... :lol Something else I noted was that the lead programmer was Tomohiro Misei, the other lead programmer of DQVIII, looks like L5 lost them both. Also, I'm not surprised that if there's to be a sequel that it wouldn't be made up of the exact same team, there were so many companies involved with this it doesn't look like a small scale production at all.

Just completed it 100% on Tyrant mode. Some of those princess quests are tedious as hell, but I'm glad I did it for the extra scenes and stuff. The extra congratulations scene at the end isn't really worth it, but perfectionists should still go for it as it's pretty satisfying.

Now to get back to my ridiculous backlog of ds games.

jj, I should clarify that I meant "as of today, 2009." I love all of their other games. I do feel like the Tingle games and, to a lesser extent, Captain Rainbow limit the themes of the game in order to properly parody Nintendo (which isn't a bad thing, once). Nishi sounds EXTREMELY burned out on the industry, especially since (apparently) he didn't get to do the Captain Rainbow he wanted to do. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a long break, and he's my favorite. I believe Kudou's on the Balloon Trip website (which I remember having a funny boardgame or something), but who can say when he'll get to design his own world again? That's part of the fun for me, and while I think they do a fantastic job creating gameplay systems and comedic setups with the Tingle games (seriously, the series' art and premise is hilarious), it's less satisfying for me. Like, Warren Spector shouldn't just do Disney platformers for the next decade, right?

Apparently, the art guy's website says that they're doing a lot of marketing in Japan, though "a lot" is probably relative. Hopefully, it cracks the gaming community's consciousness.

fuckin a. I went to five different places looking for this game yesterday. Best Buy, two Wal-Marts, K-Mart, and gamestop. gamestop had 2 copies, but they were both gutted which is the same as saying they don't have it for me. Amazon it is.

I'm gonna have to agree with Amir0x here. I haven't played too far into the game yet, but just from what I've done this is by far one of the best games this year. I hope it ends up doing well sales wise world-wide.

17 citizens left town. 4 citizens returned to town.

(sorry everyone)

i *might* be moving from "unrelentingly horrible" at this game to "mostly horrible" at this game.

i don't need to sweat the time limits on quests? that'd help a lot. the game seems to be urging both a relaxed and hectic pace simultaneously.

it's fantastic.

Finished with 100% last night and, as expected, I already miss it. Just over 43 hours on the final play clock, of which the last 5 or so were pretty much exclusively spent trying to get tunes. To those in the middle of the game now, I don't care if I'm spoiling shit—make sure you start early with getting the songs. Otherwise you'll end up like me, with everything else completed and 15 songs left to get.

Anyway, I have little doubt that this game will become a bona fide cult classic. It's got it all: a dark and subversive sense of humor, charm to burn, great music, polygamy, a fantastic pedigree consisting of all-star developers that most people have never heard of, and, almost certainly, poor sales.

It's hard to imagine anything this year topping LKS for me.

Picked this up today over Wii Sports Resort, I think I made the right choice. I'm three hours in and loving it - the music is especially great.

That being said, who the hell decided no pointer controls would be a good idea? And is is it impossible for anyone else to get all of their units up a set of stairs without at least one of the fuckers getting stuck off to the side? Goddamn, that's annoying.

The game is pretty hard already tbh, though.

You can buy the "Evade" formation to traverse through stairs and little walkways.

Ok after a few hours of play I really enjoy this game (even playing on the hard difficulty).

However, the king gets stuck on my ‘hot spring’ and I cannot move him or access the menus when this happens.

It makes me sad :(

Ok, here´s my situation guys, the game probably is not being released here in Chile, I want to play it so badly =(. Not credit card, so no Amazon for me.

Any kind US soul could give me a hand?, send me the game, I give you the money via bank transfer? At fair price please =P

Thanks!

No surprise on the sales, especially considering barely any store was even selling it.
A real shame as it's one of the best games of this year, but it's not really any surprise.
