Official NFL Week 1 Thread: It's the start of something....Special.

I would rather have Coughlin as my coach than Tiki as my running back. Look at the track record of both people Look at Tiki's numbers before and after Coughlin. Look at Coughlin's success in NY, with a talent deprived team in a tough division. Look at what he did in Jax during the regular season, an expansion team. Look at Dan Marino's last game. Coughlin has proved his worth in the NFL. Tiki? He's just a pompass ass.

Things are about to get brutal, though. Its pretty friendly for the off-season, but starting thursday people's mothers will be insulted, sexual orientation questioned, intelligence doubted, and self esteem damaged heavily. Friendships are about to end, and everyone will gravitate to their own kind. Its like the segregation era instead its split 32 ways instead of two.

So a typical day On GAF....

oh yea...fuck that washed up, old piece of shit simeon rice. go to denver and get stomped in the afc west. fuckin dummy.

What is up with the giants. Seems like that team can't go a week without a prominent player sticking their foot in their mouth.

I don't think out of the regulars, but every once in a while someone will come on here repping the Cards. They'l lthen get laughed out of the discussion and we'll never see them again.

Thats why I actually have tons of respect for Kark. Hes the lone Raiders fan and he hasn't run away yet despite being on the recieving end of everyones jokes..
Bah! I've been here longer than Karakand through the shittiest of QBs and retarded personnel moves. :| Lone Raiders fan my ass! I'm the one driving the golf cart!

Tuesday Morning Quarterback is always mocking teams who stupidly punt when they would have a better chance to win if they had the cajones to go for it. Again, he argued his point again today, this time with bullet points!

• Inside your own 20, punt.

• From your 21 to 35, go for it on fourth-and-2 or less.

• From your 36 to midfield, go for it on fourth-and-3 or less.

• From the opposition 49 to opposition 30, go for it on fourth-and-4 or less.

• From the opposition 29 to opposition 3, go for it on fourth-and-3 or less.

• From the opposition 2 or 1, go for it.

• Exception: inside the opponent's 25, attempt a field goal if it's the fourth quarter and a field goal causes a tie or gives you the lead.

This goes along with "Kick (FG) early, go for it late" and "Go for 1 unless it's the 4th"

What do you think? Will we ever see a team that has the balls to employ this method.

It's the reverse for me and Lonestar, same college team, different NFL teams.

We're actually picking up an actual Alabama click. Me, you, Limedust, Mre! We're half a baseball team!

Except Tiki isn't a player anymore.

Got any other insight?

Barber being an asshole or not, the Giants are most assuredly being held back with Coughlin in charge. And I think he's absolutely right in saying that his performance (which contributed greatly to their last two playoff apperances) is the reason why Coughlin still has the job.
Tiki wouldn't have a job in the first place if it wasn't for Coach Coughlin along with Coach Ingram (RB Coach, FYI) for putting a stop to Tiki's fumbles. But let's applaud Tiki and bash Coughlin some more.
Also, Eli sucks, but he would likely be a lot more consistent under a better head coach.
You had to get the "Eli sucks" line in there. Great stuff considering his win percentage against your godly Redskins.

Thank you for saying this. A Gaints fan pointing out Tiki's problems pre-Coughlin carries more weight than a 49ers fan. Tiki has a few good years and people just forgot who he used to be. Was anyone whispering Hall of Fame before Coughlin came to town?

I am not doing any shit talking....yet. I have high hopes for the Texans, I have incredibly high hopes, but I prefer to see how we look against the Chiefs. I can't wait for Sunday. Walking back into Reliant, tailgating, cheering, booing, post-game tailgate. It is going to be fun, fun, fun.

A win percentage that came from Tiki's legs. Eli hasn't done much against us since he's started as the Giants' QB.

2006 12-30 NYG 34 @ WAS 28 Eli Manning 12/26 46.2 completion % 101yd 1TD 1 Sack 69.6 QB Rating

Tiki Barber 23 att 234 yds 10.2 ypc 55T long 3 TDs

2006 10-08 WAS 3 @ NYG 19 Eli Manning 23/33 69.7 completion % 256yd 1TD 102.6 QB Rating

Tiki Barber 23 att 123 yds 5.3 ypc 18 long

2005 12-24 NYG 20 @ WAS 35 Eli Manning 23/41 56.1 completion % 244yd 1 TD 1 INT 1 Sack 71.6 QB Rating

Tiki Barber 16 att 80 yds 5.0 ypc 31 long

2005 10-30 WAS 0 @ NYG 36 (the game after Wellington Mara died)
Eli Manning 12/31 38.7 completion % 146yd 1TD 1 INT 2 Sacks 51.3 QB Rating

Tiki Barber 24 att 206 yds 8.6 ypc 59 long 1TD

2004 12-5 NYG 7 @ WAS 31 (his first game against the Skins as a starter)
Eli Manning 12/25 48.0 completion % 113yd 0 TD 1 Sack 60.9 QB Rating

So basically he had one good game against us in his career at the beginning of last year. And he's only had 2 games of 5 that he's completed more than 50% of his throws (and one of those he barely did that!)

Yea, great win percentage, he really did A LOT to help the Giants beat the Skins! :lol

Edit: Added Tiki's stats to illustrate who really beat the Skins...look at those RIDICULOUS yards per carry numbers he put up in 2 of Eli's 3 wins, and the 3rd win he put up an outstanding 5.3 ypc!

Fuck Eli dude. His career numbers are pathetic too:

1276 att 690 completions 54.1 completion %
8049 yd 54 TD 44 INT 66 Sacks 73.2 QB Rating

And Eli's first season?

2004 9 games played 197 att 95 completions 48.2 completion % 1043yds 6 TDs 9 INTs 13 Sacks 55.4 QB Rating

Look at what Jesus Campbell has done so far in his regular season starts (7 games):

2006 7 games played 207 att 110 completions 53.1 completion % 1297 yds 10 TDs 6 INTs 7 Sacks 55 76.5 QB Rating

Hmmm, I wonder who is going to be a better QB this year?

I'd have to agree that Tiki wouldn't be where he's at now if it hadn't been for Coughlin sticking his foot up his behind. He most likely would have been cut and ended up being a back up somewhere if the fumbles persisted and would have have this analyst gig?

I wonder if Tiki regrets retiring and is taking it out on the Giants. I think thats why he's lashing out.

i was thinking, if eli or rex was on the raiders last year. the raiders wouldn't lose so many games. but then again i was just thinking.

The QBs weren't the problem for the raiders, the Offensive Line was. Can you imagine Rex with an awful O-line?:lol

Just printed out my tickets for the season opener, up in the upper section, but the view is always just fine from up there.:D

Is anyone else going to the 49ers game on Monday Night? Am I going to have to represent the entire GAF 49ers contingent?

Looks like you will have to suffer the embarassment alone.

well, rexy deep ball attempts is 4 for 4 in the preseason. so i'll be expecting it in the chargers game.

oh yea, on espn 1000 chicago, the bears qb coach joked about a fake botched snap were rex would hand the ball back to the snapper as rex would dive as if he was recovering the ball. the same time the snapper would hand it off to a unaccompanied defensive tackled. i laughed so hard but i could see that play doing something special if they get it to work. but i dont think that will happen.

It isn't just Tiki. You can't say with a straight face that Strahan wasn't a distraction with his holdout and his idiotic comments about it not being about the money.

I am sure someone will be able to throw a dumb Shockey quote in there as required as well.

Though I will admit it was mostly Tiki. And I have to agree with you and take Coughlin's side. A lot of coaches would have given up on Tiki early because of his fumbling problem. The Giant coaches stuck with him though and they deserve a ton of credit for that.

Anyone know of any sleeper fantasy picks for runningback? I had the last pick since I won last year and all the backs were sucked up immediately. Right now I have Reggie Bush, LaMont Jordan, Mike Bell and Anthony Thomas. Something tells me with that lineup im not gonna stand a chance.

Yeah, but he doesn't really post here. He's in the trunk with the clubs.

I wish we all lived together in one huge mansion so I could put my "No Seahawks Allowed" water fountain. No way I'm drinking after mouths that actually laud people like Glasselbeck and Shaun Alexandria.
Oh yeah, I'd be rather grateful for the warning sign. I'd hate to drink after people who've french kissed the ground Alex Smith walks on, or worse, parts of Smith himself. ;)

the giants need to fire couglin, bring back tiki, then hire mike martz, and handpick a good DC to run the defense.

eli + martz would be something to see

Shockey hasn't even said a word to the media this off-season. The only two players talking are from those loser Jim Fassel teams, Tiki and Strahan. Strahan just joined the team today, by the way, so what player that was actually on the team was doing all the talking?

so if tiki did not want to play for coughlin why didnt he just demand a trade or sit out? seems like a BS excuse and a way to sell books. if he really did not like coughlin to the point he lost his love for the game he should have mentioned this last season during his weekly reminder that he was retiring.

tiki all these years seemed pretty classy but hes just coming off as a jackass.

Ding Ding!

Wait a sec. Doesn't Tiki owe it to Coughlin that he actually had a second chance? He had a worse reputation for fumbling than Ahman Green does before the tough bastard got up there. While I have no love for Coughlin, Tiki is losing every ounce of respect that he earned from his last 3 seasons of work. He wasn't NEARLY as good as his mouth pretends to be, and what little talent he did have he owes to the people around him for developing. Fuckin' schmuck. I hope Eli gets traded to a ball-control offense, and Shockey goes to the Raiders.

Never before have I seen that much talent wasted on egos, primadonnas, and horrible coaching. That whole team needs to implode.

NFL Films are just awesome at packaging stuff together, that was great.

:lol John Clayton just said Randy Moss is going to OBVIOUSLY have double digit touchdowns.

:lol On a Tom Brady team? I'm calling BULLSHIT! Not only will Moss show how much his talent has subsided, but he will suffer the typical New England fate of getting 3-6 passes his direction per game (if he's lucky). I think he's good for 6-8 TDs this year, and that's not qualified at all.

And that isn't a slam against Tom or NE at all; it's simply a fact that they spread it around better than any team in the league--then again, that could be because of a serious threat as a go-to guy.

When I first made my comment about the Giants player I was referring to the comments by the players over the years. Maybe it was just magnified because of the crazy NY media (worse than Niner fans in here), but it always seems there is something non-football related going on with this team. Might just be my perception, but I seem to recall at least Shockey, Strahan, and worst of all Tiki making comments that I would not exactly classify as positive towards the team or the coaches. And I am sure that others can add some other players to the list as well.

And dude, don't try and act like Strahan was not acting like a douche. His whole comment about this holdout not being about the money was an insult to everyone's intelligence.
