Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition |OT| Mourning Wood

I remember getting really irked at Ginso Tree, but it feels so good once you finally clear it. I'm in it hard mode now which should be lovely...

The chase sequences for me are this game's equivalents to boss battles because they test your skills up to that point and feel reeeeeealllll good when you beat them. Never took more than 8 tries or so. I just wish the path forward was a little more clear in them at times.

The first escape sequence took me around 30-45 minutes to beat. The key to finishing it was remembering that you can use the Y-ability to boost on enemies, not just their projectiles.

Once you beat it once, it's really easy to beat again IMO.

But i am playing on normal and really these sections should not frustrate me so on this difficulty especially when i fsil half a dozen times on the first section alone @.@

I for one appreciated that this game actually put up a challenge. The escape sequences are among the best parts of the game.

Still need to check out the Definitive Edition. If it's even better than the base game, I'll be thrilled.

Ecstatic to hear the Ori: DE is getting a physical release on PC. I really hope Microsoft gets a Xbox One version on store shelves even if it's in limited edition.

I decided I couldn't wait for the E3 announcement of an Ori: DE Special Edition ( :p ) so I picked up the DE for $5 since I couldn't wait.

Replaying it again and everything about Ori is perfect. From the emotional intro to the soundtrack to the graphics/art and most importantly gameplay. The platforming, combat, exploration, abilities, weight and controls of the platforming... it's so perfect. I've put in hundreds of hours in Splatoon, Halo 5, Witcher 3, Dark Souls III but this may just be my favorite game so far this gen. I'm only 10% in again but I'm loving the added cutscenes, backstory etc.

One question about one of the new areas I've discovered:
should I explore Black Root Burrows first or is it part of the main story? I guess question being is there a chance I could miss it due to a story event? Since its part of Naru's past it wasn't part of the original story. Don't have enough abilities to properly explore it.

Yeah, the escape sequences are the only terrible sections of ganeplay, but people seem to love them regardless.

The escape sequences are my favorite part of the game. I wish you could customize the game to be "Normal" throughout, then "Hard" on escape sequences.

You can explore it when you first find it, it's gated off by the stomp ability anyway partway through so you'll have to come back later.

I passed the tree escape and that section and ability reminded me of Magnes Glyph in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Though there it seemed more responsive due to the smaller screen

While controls in Ori are more fluid, the richer animation means you have to press and release the buttons at stricter timings. even if you think you're in the appropriate range.

Really enjoying this game again! All of the little improvements and additions really bring in a new layer of polish for an already pretty polished game.

New area has amazing music, visuals, and level design. Well done!

I was dreading the Ginso sequence and one-shotted it. Go go muscle memory from the first run!

I cannot change my resolution to any higher than 1080p, using nvidia downsampling options on all of my games with no issues, other resolutions are available but when I click on them nothing happens. Tried "disabling display scaling on high DPI setting" but it didn't do anything.

I have the same issue. Hopefully I can find a fix.

I believe the Xbox One version of the physical release is actually supposed to be out before the Steam physical release, unless I'm mistaken.

I can't wait to buy it a 3rd time! (17th time if you count the copies from giveaways, lol).

Is the retail version coming with both a game disc and a code to download the digital version or just a code to download it? At least thats what some websites are reporting.

Both a disc and a code, so people without optical drives don't need to worry! :)

Also, this is AMAZING:

Where can I preorder?

Is the overall opinion that the definitive edition is the better version of the game to play on first playthrough compared to the original?

@Thomas - What's the word on a physical/collector's edition for XB1? I preordered the physical collector's edition for PC on Amazon just in case, but woud prefer to buy it on XB1 if possible. If the XB1 version is just the game and not a CE, I'll get both so I can keep the XB1 disc in that steel book. :)

The CE will only be available for PCs. The X1 physical release of Ori will be limited ot the US for now (we worked with a crazy schedule and getting into retail is tough...), there also aren't going to be that many printed, so I could easily see the X1 US release to become a collectors item fairly soon...

Good to know, guess I'll be buying both. :)

What the hell?

This game has a ridiculously abrupt ending.
I just finished one of the dungeons and then it randomly played a cutscene and ended.

Felt like I am missing half a game.

What dungeon? If it was Mt Horu that was the final one. There are only three proper "dungeons", the tree, the ruins, and mt horu. Theres also Misty Woods and Sorrow Pass, but those are in the outer, open world. Blackroot Burrows too if youre talking DE, but again that's in the outer world. Your first playthrough should be roughly 7-10 hours, perhaps longer if you go slow and explore, but the game can be 100% cleared in 2-2.5 hours with practice, and any% runs have been sub 30 minutes (with glitches and sequence breaks).

So I decided to play through this. Loved the original etc.

As it turns out, I've almost completed the game without picking up the Dash.

congrats though, for fixing all the issues. This game is perfection

EDIT:

WOOOW it was just there?!

I...what? I'm not sure I get this complaint, if you were remotely paying attention the 'end of the game' is telegraphed a mile away, it's built to over the entire time of the game, and it's not like the game is short.

Yes, you 'beat a dungeon' and it ends, because by definition you've got to finish a section before the end, so I guess it's just a confusing complaint. The story had very clearly been rearing towards the conclusion by the end.

The escape sequences are the best part. You just need to be able to think on your feet and have your hands respond appropriately to the reflexes in your brain.

Well I might be shit out of luck on the limited edition I ordered. I placed the order on June 1st and it was not listed as back-order, but amazon never shipped it and is saying they dont know if they will get more stock in.

Its really going to suck if I dont get one. Especially since a scalper selling as 3rd party on amazon apparently got plenty.

dude - get your copy from play asia or somewhere like that.

Finished this a couple of days ago (Standard edition) and man, what a game. I don't normally play Metroidvania games but this was incredible from start to finish. Kudos to Thomas and the rest of the Moon Studios gang.

Just got an update email from Amazon regarding my copy -

"Your new estimated delivery date is: Thursday, June 30, 2016 - Thursday, July 7, 2016"

The added story bits about
Gumon
. :( Loving the added story thus far can't wait to see more of the backstory.

Some added story and gameplay parts make it feel like a completely new game.

Saw Ori:DE for Xbox One at Wal Mart. Super happy to finally see it on store shelves.

Yeah, should be everywhere now - I just saw it in Austrian store shelves today, made me super proud :)

Every ounce of pride well earned for everyone at Moon, along with Gareth's amazing work.

My limited edition PC copy says it arrived yesterday while I slept. Cant wait to get off work in the morning so I can go get it and have a proper steelbook to keep my Xbox One physical copy in! :)

Couldnt have arrived at a better time. Needed a pick me up, wife got in ANOTHER accident yesterday. Some idiot in a truck decided to turn right from the middle lane and drove across her front end. I hate people sometimes. At least he stuck around and admitted it was his fault to the police.

I ended up having to request a replacement from Amazon because my steelbook had two dents and I just couldn't live with it. Awesome collector's edition though, excited to play through it on PC after doing so on Xbox.

Yeah I think I got lucky. The shrink wrap had a tear in it and there was NO padding inside the box. Luckily I had ordered some razor cartridges that ended up being shipped with it, which I think MAY have helped keep it from banging around in the box. Poor show though Amazon, poor show.
