Said it before, but I really hope for La France Insoumise that Alexis Corbière won't replace Melenchon later on.
He really needs to work on his image/communication. Awful reactions from him (on France 2).

Yeah, it's good that Macron won, but this election was a defeat for the left parties more so than the right. A centre-right emerges as victorious, the right has only grown stronger (specifically far-right), while the left such as PS are in tatters.

Exactly.
I woudn't call the PS left tho :p

Splendid. People wanted a candidate from outside the establishment, thank goodness there was a healthy choice of options for them this time.

Gotta change that avatar now

But yeah, while it's a "win", it's a pretty hollow one. Macron is center-right and doesn't represent much on the grand scheme while Le Pen has not been "defeated", just delayed. But people are quick to already forget about her until they'll worry all over again in 5 years.

Like someone else pointed out, it's actually more the very young than the old that is for Le Pen. And the alt-right is not done trying convert more people to their cause to fuck everything up out of malice and short sightedness. I think these 5 years should serve to strengthen the leftist movement

Yup, agree totally. The fight has just begun.

But today we celebrate!

He got a lot of voters from Hollande's electorate (actually that's his main source in the first round) though
It's a defeat for the PS, LR and now the FN because they hit a hard ceilling

Also Mélenchon went from 11% to 19,5%, I wouldn't consider that a bad number, nobody expected that from him and he could have been in the second round

Technically ou don't "win" the first round
Thanks for the sophistry, it really adds something to the discussion.
If you look at polls from the 1st round only half of the people that voted for him did it because they agreed with his platform (lowest number of the four big candidates)

Don't be arrogant

People who abstain have the right to do so and most of them do it because they are the people that are the most fragile in our society

Abstainers can go vote 'blanc'. But let me reformulate: abstainers who complain about the vote results can eat shit.

I am not saying it's a resounding victory for Macron, but whiners are loving to prop up that he has not support, which is factually a lie.
Your point could certainly be made about all candidates (certainly can be made about melenchon, that people liked but didn't support the more 'extreme' components of his policies). Perhaps the candidate with the most genuine support for his platform didn't get elected
he deserved to though

It certainly gives enough time for a leftist movement to grow and establish itself in France. Melenchon, in the short time he had, did move a lot of votes towards him. So clearly the interest in the left is there, if it is representative of socialist values that blue collar workers, the socially downtrodden and young people want.
That's the kind of stuff that the right populists are trying to lure the people in with, and they ARE succeeding with it, but as soon as there is a feasible option for those people who find no alternative in the establishment parties, the right wing loses its steam.

Let's not get carried away.

It's a good song! But yeah, it probably won't win.
