Think when I reach level 20 or so, I'm gonna use one of my respec points to redo my skills setup. I'm not liking my witch build.

I got a reduced duration time support gem and I don't have a clue what it would be used for. I don't know what abilities do damage over a certain period of time versus each hit. I'm assuming if I had something that did 100 damage over 10 seconds it would do 100 damage over 5 seconds or something?

Lightning Warp for instance benefits from it. It's a teleport that also does a small amount of lightning damage, but there's a significant delay. You can make it near instant with Reduced Duration. Can't think of any other uses off hand.

I might be wrong here, but it sounds like you think 1 respec point = complete respec. Thats not the case, 1 respec point = 1 passive skill node refund. Just want to make sure thats clear - at lvl 20 you'll have to spend 20 respec points to completely start over.

Apologies for the basic question, but I am lvl 7 with a dual-wielding Maurauder, and I see that swords are requiring DEX even though I have tons of STR. What weapon should I DW to go with my STR build?

1h maces should be good for you, but -some- of them may have an int requirement.

Don't worry, there are several quests which reward you with respec points - and they can be done again in each successive difficulty. It's usually enough for sizable modification. If all else fails though, PoE(like many ARPGs) is all about rerolling :)

I've played over a hundred hours of PoE and have never lost a character to desync in a normal speed league. Krip has probably played a thousand hours and you can count his deaths in normal speed leagues on one hand and none of them are to desync.

Now I have died to desync in turbo races but as for a league that is normal speed I just don't see why so many say they die to desync. I think it's a play style and slow reaction time that makes some people more susceptible and I'm certain many just use it as an excuse so they don't feel embarrassed to those on their friends lists.

It's a tough game later on if you die because of normal shit just admit it.

Yep, there's also an Orb of Regret that gives you 1 respec point per. They are moderately rare however.

I've lost five or six level 70+ characters, I don't think any have been directly caused by desync. I just think the existence of desync makes it an easy scapegoat - which then makes it seem like a bigger problem than it actually might be. I'm not accusing anyone of lying about how the died though, that's just silly.

Maybe I'm just lucky and my connection is stable, but the majority of my closest calls (alt+f4s) are the result of regular game mechanics, which are pretty brutal even without sync issues. If you've been playing a while, you start to develop a certain conservative play style to account for this. Of course, sometimes your brain can just go afk and RIP!

Absolutely. Later in the game there are a host of things that can kill you very easily. I have died to Flame Golems, Reflect, chaos damage, I was one shot by Prison map Brutis. Almost every time someone on my friends list dies they blame desync. There are a few buddies of mine though that just tell it like it is and it's much more fun to discuss those kind of deaths than "oh gawd teh desync got me otherwise I'd of lived forever!"

Does dex usually do ranged damage?

Nope, but Dex let you use higher level bow that require more Dex. Most of your bonus damage going to come from your passive skill tree that increase now damage. Also skills gem like split arrow can level up and do more damage. I don't think you will auto attack as much at higher level.

I did too the first time. Pretty harrowing. Came back with a much better weapon (had to grind out a level to use it) and the fight was much easier.

The first form is just...too much.

Anyway, first quest reward for Cruel: do I go vulnerability or grace? I'm leaning towards the former, since Grace eats up 60% of my pool and I use cyclone/spectral a lot.

First rule of hardcore: Expect to die. Repeatedly.

Every character dies, literally. It's hard to grasp the concept at first, but the game really opens up eventually, and it's just as rewarding to play new characters.

this doesn't mean that it isn't a problem when it clearly is. I had plenty if experiences where my attacks didn't seem to hit, enemies teleport, and even I teleported into a group of enemies

Oh man, that passive map is HUGE... Is there a rundown of abilities or something so I have things I can target? I don't want a defined build 100%, just want to know what I can go after on my ranger.

As a ranger, you'll want life, attack speed, resistances, and physical or elemental damage based on your primary skills. Critical strike chance and damage may also be useful.

For defenses, the ranger specialises in evasion, but since evasion is pseudo-random, it can be unreliable. Some opt for a mix of armour and evasion, or use Iron Reflexes to convert evasion into armour. Getting a lot of evasion through dexterity will keep your accuracy up as well.

Welp, sweep Templar dead already. That didn't take long.

Any recommendable fun builds guys? Preferably for Nemesis.

I finally run into the first exile in act one with super high elemental resistance and slow aura against my lightning witch.

I used up all my tp scroll for that stupid fight.

Desync happens a lot when I am kiting bosses, it is really annoying. Isn't there a command to resync yourself and the mob?

Currently on my fourth Nemesis toon (1st and 3rd to
Dominus
, 2nd to Tempest Shield damage).

That tiny red circle of light. Probably the sole reason I fear playing low-life builds - sends a chill down my spine, hah.

Considering rerolling my ST Scion to start from the ranger side.. Might as well have a backup!

I made a new ranger now since I haven't played ranger since early open beta. Wow, the new passive tree for the ranger is completely different. And so much more enjoyable!

Going attack speed, projectile dmg, fire dmg, crit. chance now. Going both explosive arrows and raining arrows with split arrows as extra piercing.

I started the final with the scion class, but damn.. I really want to continue the ranger now.

RIP, it sucks but re-rolling is the best part of the game for me, and now you have all the shit in your stash, and Neogaf's (which i took a decoy totem from and donated many flasks and a few gems to). Home the guild gets strong in Nemesis and we have a nice collection of leveling gear in there at all times.

Really wish we could see what guild members where in each league and which ACT.

Does WED work with a linked spectral throw?

Just go to A2 Cruel. Did not enjoy dying to certain mobs, like the squid things that explode...or anything else that blows up on death.

Finally got to start on this. Started with a Templar but got an early Fire Trap gem. Really liking the new trap mechanics so I think I might roll a "Grenadier" Shadow with increased AoE, high crits and Chance to Ignite and just bomb the crap out of mobs. Really satisfying just watching life bars plummet.

almost done with Act2 i think
finished Chamber of Sins
that Deadspace monster was a bitch had to kite like crazy with ST
got 22 and called it a night
what instance is trap master btw?
