People receiving damaged copies Of TLOU remake from Sony.

Nobody refused a refund. They got a refund AND a 20% discount compensation for not having any more stock of the limited edition product to resend.
Yeah now they need to pay that extra 20% plus more to buy a regular PS5 from a scalper. Wow Sony, amazing how you handled the situation.

It was Sony refusing refunds, not having spare copies to reship the buyer, and the guy in the tweet saying Sony offered him a 20% discount on a future purchase as compensation.

No. They offered him a return (refund) and also a 20% discount on a future purchase as compensation.

So the problem is that people wanted to get a refund AND to keep the game.

I would have allowed it, but I can understand why they could say "no, either you keep the game or you return it for the refund". It is a bit misleading that some posters are going with the "Sony is refusing refunds" narrative without any qualifiers though.

How??? SONY packed the game, they didnt just give you a flimsy game box. FedEX is the one delivering it, they are handling the package meaning they are throwing it/crushing it with other items etc.You can bet your ass those games didnt leave SONY HQ in that state. I dont know why you act surprised, its not like people dont moan about bad packages delivered all the time here from graphic cards, to periferals. How is it SONY that its directly their fault, somebody is crushing these packages in mass. There were photos of dented PS5 boxes on this very forum...you dont see people bitching at SONY how its a bad package. Also Id love to see the percentage of these crushed packages VS the ones that got it normal in the mail.
Yeah I'm sure it's green rat delivery boys who's destroying only the Sony packages.

If someone packs the a product so it gets damaged over nothing then its sonys fault.

The amount of fanboys in here running conspiracies about delivery guys targeting Sony packages are insane. Sony just can't do nothing wrong.

I guess if if someone is fanboy enough then all common sense gets tossed out the window like a damaged product from delivery.

I have this weird thing with the Playstation Store were my credit cards and PayPal will not work. I have to use a gift card.

The joke here is that the value isn't in the box, that costs them pennies.

Sony could EASILY swallow the tiny cost of producing replacement packaging and offer to send a replacement to anyone who wants one who originally ordered their $100 copy of the game.

It'd be a giant PR win, they'd look like the good guys and still keep almost all of the money.

Only offering refunds means they lose all the money (I assume they won't sell damaged boxes again), upset fans who wanted the special edition and look like they couldn't care less about the people who built the company up.

All because they won't order a bunch of new boxes that would cost them next to nothing. They could even say "we have to order boxes to be manufactured months in advance so we will fix this, we want to fix it. But we'll have to wait until January" or something like that, by then loads of people won't care anymore. They could probably do a tiny run and if they are all taken, they could apologise and order another run.

I don't know why they wouldn't do it.

Huh? When I send a parcel to someone who has paid me if that someone contacts me and says they did not get it or it was damaged during transit, I refund that person the money and then file a claim against the courier who I paid to send the parcel and paid insurance money to. Responsibility for the damage is with the courier but I as the sender make the claim having refunded the customer personally.

Well, exactly. If this isn't Sony's fault, Sony would have direct the receiver to settle the dispute with the courier. The onus wouldn't be on Sony to refund the customer and settle with the courier if this is not Sony's fault.

Simply because they can get away with it.

The average gamer who jumps down in gamestop and trade 7 games for a new one doesn't care about game forums or twitter, and those who do defends Sony, as you can see here.

So as long as they can get away with it, they'll do it.

And they have an aggressive vocal minority of loyal cultists

It's SUPPOSED to look that way. It's meant to give you that Last of Us vibe. If you're lucky you also got some spare weapon parts packed in with it.

I mean, you know why they are doing so.

Anyway, not sure about how it might work exactly but don't delivery companies offer pack & ship services to us consumers, why would they not offer the same type of service (scaled accordingly) to companies? I mean, not that it matters, it is very possible that whoever handles shipping for Sony might also be packing it. Sony should definitely tighten control over that because the experience of opening something from the time it arrives to your door should be important. :D

Steam Deck has great packaging, and they're a far smaller company.

Sony doesn't give two shits.
In valves defense, Steam Deck is a 300 dollar system that probably cost them 150-250 to make. This Special edition of last of us probably cost Sony 5 bucks to make and they charged 100.

Why are you comparing software units and hardware prices in the first place?
You could say that a digital game cost ~0$ to "make".

Ok? Currier issue, hardly Sony's fault. If Sony have only printed a limited amount it's not like they can ask the factory to do a few more because some have been damaged in transit.
You can blame the currier all you want, but in the end better packaging would mute that point. Sony should step up here imo.

As per Sony's email above, it's packaged at a distribution centre - it's not like Jim Ryan personally oversees every minion packing one of these. Anyway, problem solved, the nerds are getting fresh copies.

Nobody thinks the head of PlayStation is working the conveyor belt, and anyways this is a PlayStation product, and if they have some values they would also know that 3rd parties can tarnish a brand. So again; Sony should step up here and fix this.

How exactly, beyond replacing the damaged copies?

Bin off the entire distribution centre because of a small number of mispackaged goods? Ensure the poor cunt who packaged them is sacked?

No, just take responsibility. Fix the problems that arise. Really, that's not asking to much. Offer replacements to the small amount of people who experience this.

Imagine buying the same game for the third time ( a movie game at that ).
