Persona 5 Review Thread

Atlus going to be Atlus I guess. Can only see myself buying 3-4 costumes and no persona summons dlc by the end of it. Guess I will delay new game plus until June/July.
Yeah, I'm a little mad but not really surprised by this. Atlus milking Persona series is nothing new so I expected them to do something with Persona 5. Either way, I'm not buying any of those insanely over priced costume sets, so this doesn't really change how I'll approach their DLCs.

Horizon has a lot of technical polish, but aside from the incredible combat and beautiful open world it's AAA bland as hell. I think it will be on the list, probably top five, but other games will charm more people.

It's definitely not good enough to hit the top spot.

I've not played Zelda, I'm basing my guess on the response it's had. I honestly can't see another game landing like this did, not this year.
Complete and utter horseshit.

I've been quiet on Persona 5 partly because of that lack of sharing functionality. I like to save snaps/vids just to look at down the road, use as wallpaper, etc. Thousands of snaps to reconcile for P4G.

Annoyed me enough to hold off on preordering until just a couple days ago, but gotta in the end support the game (still can cancel, though...). Not happy about it though, and any game with less pull than a new Persona might have been dismissed.

Sorry friend, but that's my opinion. I found it extremely lacking in character, and aside from the machines I thought the art direction was very unappealing. Overall, it felt incredibly generic.

Comparable to P4 so far imo, maybe slightly less punishing.
PS2 or Golden? Golden was a whole lot easier than vanilla (heck, they even added weaknesses to bosses that didn't have any before).

If it's comparable to Golden or easier then I'll play on hard, especially because you get the same XP as in normal, so no extra grinding.

Also seems like we get all the themes and avatar sets to buy, nice!

I agree with the other person. Horizon is littered with nothing but great art. From the machine designs, to the greenish glow of the night sky, to the characters that wear clothes with the machine parts of destroyed dino-robots.

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks wonderful from a technical point of view.

You're not helping your case.

I found the game blandly beautiful. I felt the same about KZ:SF so meh

That's a good way of putting it.

man....

Horizon, Nier, P5.....

back to back to back bangers.... 3Peat...

But which one is the true King/Queen!?

I guess going by Metacritic, it would be P5....but is that real tho?

Update on Metacritic, we have 39 reviews with scores now. Metascore is still at 94.
New are:
XGN - 93
Persona 5 could be the best JPRG you have ever played. An intriguing journey featuring themes like friendship, morality and justice. Satisfying turn-based combat and the creation of Personas make this game more than just a beautiful interactive novel.

The Washington Post - 90
What makes this weird game so irresistible is how well it juggles being a social simulator and a dungeon crawler.

Horizon is the kind of game that, if it were a film, would totally win best costume design.

Thanks for the responses. The length is kinda scaring me. RPGs I typically like are 30-50 hours max.

Also what is a dungeon? Like is there a comparison it to them in anything in Horizon Zero Dawn or The Witcher 3?

I;m thinking this game isn't for you if you don't know what it is and you are going in thinking HZD, Zelda or The WItcher.

It's nothing like those. Not even close.

(I'm basing this off P4G)

You basically go around to different locations via a menu around a city. Each day you can choose to do different stuff like study, go to class, practice sports, go to shops, hang out with different friends, go to a dungeon, etc. Once you decide on what activity you will be doing, time advances, so if you hang out with Friend B, you can't hang out with Friend A, and if you study, you can't practice sports. You usually get a night and day cycle where you can do different stuff. You also investigate real-world stuff that eventually leads to a meatverse, or the dungeon. In the past, these dungeons were randomized and very sparse. P5 is different, they aren't randomized. You usually have a week or two to complete the mission.

The whole point of the game is to build relationships with your friends so that you can get along better with them in the real world and fight better with them in the metaverse.

The Witcher or HZD, this is not.

I have to agree somewhat. Outside of the the first few hours of the narrative gripping me, I haven't been able to find the want or need to go back to it. The characters, combat, and open world just didn't grab my attention like I was hoping it would.

It is okay for someone to be wrong. Just let it be.

Back to P5!

Something that is technically unassailable in practically every way, but which ultimately leaves little impression because the sum of its parts is less impressive than the parts themselves.

Like your average lead in a CW show.

This still makes absolutely no sense but I'll just leave this alone since I'm derailing the thread and this is about P5, not Horizon.

Kind of like Leona Lewis then?*

*This is more a reference to her music than her appearance.

But back on topic, can't wait for Easy Allies' review. Expecting their first 5/5.

Woooo Game Mania in Belgium broke the street date! I just picked up a TYH edition with 2 pre-order themes. Now to decide what to do with my amazon.fr order for 70€ :p

As someone with zero experience with this series and limited JRPG experience in general, i'm not sure what to make of this game.

I watched some gameplay videos and at first they left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth because i had no context and it looked like typical turn based combat with admittedly awesome UI design - I also felt that enemy design was a tad strange

But then i watched the first hour of gameplay (something i would never do because i like experiencing content for myself, but as I said i needed to see the meat of this game)

Gotta say its bizarrely and beautifully captivating, like playing out your own Anime style story

Still not sure if i'm gonna get it but im super intrigued

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

I couldnt disagree more. The game looks stunning without any blemishes. The environments, the lighting, effects, character design, enemy design, its all flawless and coherent.

The story is really good, characters are well written and theres a level of immersion there where the setting just feels real and believable. The combat is exhilarating and always had me on the edge of my toes, combining tools and abilities to strip robots down layer by layer.

Horizon is a phenomenal game. Maybe you didnt like it, maybe the honeymoon period is starting wear off but its absolutely one of the best open world games around.
