There was a Switch Pro. It was internally canceled at some point in 2021, in favor of the much higher-margin OLED with no horsepower improvements. It wasn't this insider-laden conspiracy.

Things are canceled before being revealed publicly literally all the time. Something not ending up being released is not proof that "everyone's a liar". Sometimes things just don't come together and we'll never hear from the company why.

Nothing is official til Nintendo themselves announce it. That's it. But the timing does line up if they plan to make any comments about it at all at the investor meeting next week.

Anyway, we'll know soon enough. The next release of NTDOY results is scheduled for November 05, 2024. Either they announce something before then, so this coming week, or it will be early next year.

They should neither be deified nor demonised, just treated as human beings.

The things they hear can be interesting, but them hearing something doesn't make it true. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't.

Well, I've said it: there's no major first party coming out, almost nothing significant, apart from third-party publisher games (and not the best batch). Only new, major games could boost end-of-year sales, and there aren't any.

As for Metroid, let me laugh, a vague date doesn't mean "early" 2025, so forget at least the first three months. Besides, I can see it being cross-gen for the Switch 2 line-up.

the OLED model was clearly originally designed as a pro model. everything points towards that fact.

Nintendo, during development of the system, probably ultimately decided to not go that route and just make an OLED model.
maybe due to rising costs for memory at the time, as a Pro model would have needed more memory for sure.

the Tegra X1+ set to its full clock speed, and more memory, would have been enough to boost some Switch titles massively. that would have been a bigger raw power jump than that of the PS5 to PS5 Pro, percentage wise.

so those rumours were probably true at one point in time, until those plans changed.

These guys get a few things right, like knowing about unnanounced games or Nintendo Direct dates and then people extrapolate and think that means they can trust them when it comes to Nintendo's hardware plans. But it's obvious that the two things aren't necessarily linked.

I'll give you an example: that guy Brazil cited in the OP has claimed that Switch 2 has been delayed and was supposed to be released this year. There's absolutely no way to verify this claim. You just have to take it as gospel, and so now a parallel reality has been created where Switch 2 was delayed to 2025 only based on the unfalsifiable statements from some brazilian bloke.

On the other hand, here in my country there's an old journalist who's been covering the japanese game industry since the mid 90s. He's fluent in japanese, has worked as an interpret for big names like Miyamoto and Kojima, used to write a column in Famitsu and his main job is running a manga publishing company. Earlier this year he said he'd be very surprised if Switch 2 released in 2024 because his friends in an undisclosed japanese studio told him they had just received dev kits. I tend to trust this guy more than what I consider glorified attention whores.

Only for all of these projects to be cancelled, with no consequences to Nintendo's relationships with 3rd parties of no stories leaking to the public outside of the pathetic attempts at damage control from "insiders".

This isn't even mentioning the fact there's zero trace of a Pro system in the Nvidia hacked data that revealed the existence of the Switch 2 SoC, years ago.

To be fair it's not only Brazil, he was just the first one.

And then Bloomberg, Nikkei, VGC and Eurogamer all said that they heard similar things from their publishing sources.

We'll unlikely to be able to ever verify it. So we should just treat this as something multiple video game publisher employees are saying. Not something that is 100% a fact.

As I said, the lineup now is known *through* January, which is pretty typical at this point in the year. Occasionally there is sometimes February game that is known as well. We know of DKCReturns in January and we assume MP4 is first half, but we don't know that for sure. Luigi's Mansion and TTYD didn't have dates until Mar10 Day this year.

Splatoon 3 Side Order was dated and dropped without much notice at all. Another Code was known because it was dated in last year's September Direct. As was Mario vs Donkey Kong.

But not knowing the first half lineup for next year in October/November is nothing out of the ordinary, no.

Every year is different, though. . Sometimes know next to nothing, sometimes we know some. Also need to keep in mind 2025 is a console transition year and will likely be extra barren for Switch.

the plans for this pro model could have changed early on during development, or early enough for it never having an SDK going to devs.

the fact that they switched memory types to one that has a higher bandwidth, and the potential for more memory on a single module while retaining the same package size, is one big indicator for this imo.

if you replaced it's 2x2GB for a 2x4GB configuration, and clocked the X1+ chip to the max clock speed in docked, and maybe a 1.5x~2x increase in handheld mode, you would have roughly the same battery life as the launch Switch, while massively boosting game performance, especially in Docked mode.

it really wouldn't take much to turn the OLED into a Pro. 2 memory module changes and a software side clock speed increase, that's literally it.
the ease at which this systen could be changed into a pro model could also be the reason Nintendo could change course without much of a hassle, and without there ever being a third party working on a Pro patch for games.

Have you heard of that fun rumour where Nintendo will implement a technology for the Switch 2 that assures physical games are bound to the user account they are first associated with, thus making it impossible to sell used games? Man, that one is good.

Likely can't fly in the EU, so that's likely dead in the water. Though it'd be funny if they limit that to the US and it works, then Sony and MS join in as well. Then again, neither of those two care about physical enough to bother implement something like that I'd imagine. That already applies to digital games and that's where most of their sales come from.

That wouldn't line up at all with announcing it before end of March '25. So that's likely not on the table at all. And Switch came out in March, so there's already solid precedent for it. Systems don't need to launch during the holidays anymore. They just need strong software to come out during the holidays to keep hardware sales up.

Late 2025? Nah. They've gone an entire calendar year with only one full Nintendo Direct, and we can see the lineup shorting out at the same time they've said they'll make an announcement of the next system. It's releasing in the next 6-9 months, for sure.

And no doubt it'll be the shortest gap between announcement and release we've seen yet. Because why not? People will buy it regardless.
