Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

I've been testing Uncharted 4, TLOU and Infamous since they were patched on the og PS4 and later on PS4 pro.

Input lag is not an issue with LG OLED in HDR mode at all, neither at 30 or 60 fps

I think it's a bit on the high end for shooters.

They need to get it down to something like 40-50ms before I find it acceptable.

Just ordered the OLED65B6P - saw it in person this weekend and just couldn't think about anything else. The picture on these units is insane.

How are all you LG B6/C6/E6 owners liking them so far? Bright enough in a well lit living room with HDR?
I'm consistently amazed by the picture the B6 displays. Coming from a VT50 plasma...I felt like I truly upgraded.:) There's just nothing like zero blacks.

I've been playing the shit out of PS4 Pro titles and zero issues with input lag here as well.

Which model?

C6.

I think there were some weird readings with the B6 and I don't know wether they were sorted out already or not.

I'm sure some pro level player will be able to tell the difference, but the camera zooms as soon as I quickly tap L2 in TLOU and there's no lag in my moves or actions. If anything, it's an improvement over my previous Tv, a 40 inch LCD Bravia.

If you have the chance to test a game on one of these Tvs, do it, maybe you'll be surprised.
I think those numbers are way overblown and makes most people think that games feel laggy or inaccurate, but it's absolutely fine.
I'm not sure what to say, I'm only going by comments on here and rtings. Rtings even posted a video of the lag (B6, C6 and E6 models): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mugyf3OLo8

Maybe I can record some footage of my hands playing the game to let you see the kind of response you can expect from these sets

I have to second this, I was getting really worried about reports of input lag, however after receiving both an XB1S and PS4P and testing out every HDR game I had on both, I've had zero problems with input lag. I really can't tell a difference between HDR content and non-HDR content, even though HDR content is supposed to have double the input lag. AMAZING TV!

You guys must just not be very sensitive. A 25ms input lag difference for me is tangible. Trying to use my TV as a monitor or playing PS4 Pro games recently has while being tolerable, definitely felt unresponsive comparative to my monitor.

I guess if you've never experienced it it's hard to appreciate it.

I have been thinking about picking up a samsung ks8000, went into bestbuy today to look at it and a LG B6 and wow as good as the 8000 looks the B6 just looks flawless lol Tough choices ahead!

Some people just don't notice I guess. I have next to no lag on my gaming PC and the 60ish ms lag on my old plasma never bothered me a bit.

Sorry, for the super noob question.
I now have a ps4 pro and ks8000 tv.
I would love to experience 4k movies, is xboxs my best choice?

Or are blue ray movies sufficient with the ps4 pro checkerboard techique?

I guess my ASUS ROG 1ms G-Sync monitor doesn't qualify as low lag? Or my MSI GT73VR with a 5ms G-Sync screen?

Obviously I can tell a difference between an ultra-low latency PC monitor and a TV (ANY TV). What I'm saying is that I don't notice a big enough difference between the supposed 34ms lag on non-HDR content vs the supposed 67ms lag on HDR content on my TV to make anything "unplayable" or unenjoyable.

I'd really like someone to test the B6 lag while playing a fighting game. Sadly, I think none of them support HDR yet. I'm just a silver league scrub at SFV but I still think I'd notice doubled lad on a game like that. Really curious to hear what other players of that genre think.

Respond time and input lag are different things, Oled TV respond time is 0.1ms. Btw GT73VR doesn't support G-Sync.

Sorry, you don't know what you're talking about with the GT73VR.

And yes I know input lag and response time are different, I was just listing the specs on the displays.

I've had my LG C6 setup for about 24 hours now.

It's simply magic. Ridiculously good picture. No regrets. Played PS4 Pro, native 4K PC games, and some Netflix and YouTube.

Can't wait to watch a 4K blu ray on it.

Anyone know if LGs OLEDs are prone to image retention/burn in? Is that maybe not much of an issue with LED/OLED TVs?

I have a 6 year old Panasonic Viera plasma and although a pretty good TV it does suffer from image retention and a few spots of burn ins. At certain colorschemes I see a very distinct fat bar on the bottom like after a black bar often seen in widescreen movies. It made afraid of watching movies with the black bars unless I zoom in and stretch the darn image. Hate it. Even subtitles leave a visible ghostly smudge. Ugh!

HUDs in games tend to stay on the screen for a short while but I regularly put on a color wash video to try to "clean it off" and it helps with the issue but it sucks having to live in constant fear of completely ruining the screen.

Will I have as much of an issue with OLED?

Own the TV for about 7 months. No issue here, had a Pana LCD and a Pana Plasma before so I can relate to your worries. I am not taking care (e.g. turning huds off) and haven't had a single issue discovered (even when trying to look closely). In reviews it is mentioned that the TV has cleaning cycles that automatically can take care of washing away stuff. Either way: You can just enjoy your system without have to fear permanent damage or even taking care manually every now and then :)

TLDR; OLED will be the paradise for you

Thank you. It makes me feel better about buying an OLED. The picture quality is second to none. Have you had any issues with lag, choppy panning or artifacts? What model do you have?

On a C6. Absolutely love it and it's a strong upgrade from my previous 2013 OLED.

I get sunlight in hitting the set from the side, and it's no problem.

I disagree. The input lag in HDR mode is distracting in race games/shooters. I fully expect LG to issue a HDR game mode update.

Jesus Christ, I just installed my LG OLED E6 65 inch and watched the beginning of Star Wars 7 on it.

O god, it's true what they say, all of it. That fucking contrast, if you got the funds, go buy OLED, damn.

Damn, you're killing me. I keep wanting to wait for the 2017 announcements but impressions like this make me want to say screw it.

Played MGSV at 40 ms lag at 4k and honestly I struggled to even line up snipe shots on moving targets.

I know some people don't notice it, but I find it absolutely game breaking.

I've only got four 4K ones now but have watched both Deadpool and the Revenant.

Deadpool is average. Decent 4K but little HDR.

Revenant on the other hand is excellent in both. Very sharp image and great use of HDR.

For me it is the first TV (E6) in ages where I just can´t complain about anything at all. If you try hard to search for something you most likely will find it and while LG definitely can improve the lag while gaming in HDR (which is not realIy a problem for me while playing Gears 4 for example) the advantages in comparison to what else is on the market are pretty easy to spot. It was kind of an odyssey for me as a former Plasma user to get another TV I really am fully satisfied with.

Can someone look at their 2016 OLED and tell me if you have little dots around the outer edge of your set on the black part, not the glass.

I'm wondering if those are like glue or screw points or something.

You can only see them if you look for them while cleaning the screen.

How do people feel about this machine? I'm upgrading the PC and thinking of having this for 1080 gaming, can anyone comment on its input lag?

Your bluray will get upconverted by the tv scaler most likely. I dont think they use checkerboard for movies.

I have that one - it has really low lag. HDR works in game mode

There is slightly more lag on PC than consoles if you re-name HDMI 'PC' to get 4:4:4 chroma, but even at that setting it has less lag than most nicer sets.

http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300

That looks really, really good.

Probably in for a B7 if they can figure out brightness for HDR. 2017 feels to be the year of OLED.
Yeah, i believe the tech is mature enough to overcome some of the limits the sets have now. Aside from peak brightness/ABL (which would probably be solved by a more aggressive use of the pixel shifting technology) and near black content (which Panasonic seem to have fixed with their new set), i really hope that both Panny and LG manage to steer away from sample and hold in favor of CRT/Plasma impulse motion. Input lag is fine if they manage to keep the game mode with HDR and maintain those 34ms.

Fom what I understand, the LG OLEDs suffer from severe lag in hdr (67.5ms):

http://uk.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/e6

Sorry, but 67.5ms is no where near "severe lag". To most people, its not even noticeable. It's not great lag, especially for competitive gaming - but for the majority of casual gamers its just fine.

People blow input lag out of proportion. My friend and I gamed on a 87ms plasma for years and never noticed any input lag that affected our experience, and we did well in multiplayer games as well. Everyone has different "sensitivities," but you'll find most casual gamers aren't sensitive to it at all. In fact, unless you hang around gaming and/or technology forums you probably wouldn't even know what input lag was and just enjoyed gaming as is.

I've got a dead bug inside my LED screen. Thought it was dead pixels but it's a little dead spider.

Any tips or am i fucked? Sounds like I'm fucked.

so yall and others who got that OLED deal.... how was the delivery? did you ask the driver to stick around to check the TV?

how did your box look? any little dents? UPS Right?

did yall check for dead pixals?

OMG I'm excited for this Thursday. :D

but also scared shitless. D:

Mine will come tomorrow and I'll follow up, but I can answer part of this now.

I won't ask a busy UPS driver to wait for me to do anything other than make sure the box isn't obviously damaged. If there is a problem, then I'll have them come get it later. If I got the white glove delivery elsewhere then sure..

I also won't be checking for dead pixels. I bought this via Ebay for a great price, and with that comes some risk. If I'd have paid full price at Big Box then I'd be doing that, but not in this scenario. Freaking 4k pixels are sooo small.

Unrelated, but my problematic Pioneer 5010 plasma has been spot-on since I started down the replacement path. I've had to factory reset it 4-5 times in the past 6-12 months and just before I ordered a Vizio P series, it hadn't worked for 3-4 weeks straight. It blows my mind that the fucker is fine as long as I'm replacing it. Tears me up a bit b/c I really don't want to see it go and it has crazy low hours.
