Thats what I thought until I actually got the OLED.
It is worlds better than my Panasonic VT60.
Are OLEDs maintaining resale value? I just don't see how when there are new models being made.
The last plasma gen on the other hand...
I'm seeing some people sell their VT60s for 1-1.5k which is amazing for a TV.
My plan was to stick with my Samsung PNE7000 for a few more years, but it died 9 days ago, and now I'm suddenly facing the prospect of buying a new TV.
I took the power board out of the Samsung and sent it off for one repair attempt. If the repair works, the set could hold me over for another year or two. A verdict should come within a few days.
When I got this plasma, I immediately stopped looking at TVs, stopped reading about them, stopped analyzing the choice I'd made, etc.. I knew that if I kept reading and overthought my choice, I'd go nuts. So I calibrated the new set and never looked back.
From what I've seen over the past week of window shopping, the landscape looks so damn different. Plasma is all but dead, LCD looks improved, this OLED thing seems like the new hotness..
bolded is such a good thing to do. IMO unless you're getting a crap off brand budget model or something, your TV is going to be perfectly fine, and probably even amazing.
People on gaf and avs forums go so crazy over the littlest things. I'm quoting another poster who I don't remember here, and paraphrasing, but "don't ever go on avs unless you really have a question about your set that you can't answer elsewhere. Those people will return a TV if a fucking fly lands on it and can never be satisfied."
Before defense force comes, I post on gaf and avs, but I've learned to not ever stress over the minor imperfections that plague every TV that ever has been manufactured.
At the end of the day, if you put a game on and it looks great and you can have fun, leave it at that. Fuck putting up test patterns and getting out a magnifying glass to look for panel imperfections. They're there, I promise you, but if you don't notice them in regular content, just drop it.

Good question, but I'm hoping I can get a decent price for my E6 in a couple of years.
Hear me out; this summer (May, June, July) the 55" E6 cost ~$6435 (I live in Norway). In August it fell to ~$5265. From September and until now, the price has been locked to ~$4095. On Friday, though, one retailer sold the E6 for ~$2335 and I managed to grab one. The price is now back to ~$4095 everywhere.
For comparison: The 55" B6 is $2106 right now, and the 55" C6 is $2233.
I picked up a 48" 4k Vizio E series TV (e48u-d0) because I was sort of hoping for something to play my PC games on with a Steam controller, and this thing was only ~$300. I think I've read that it has like 33 ms input lag at 1080p and 53 ms at 4k or something. Don't suppose there's any way to improve that in any way? Is a Vizio E series a bad choice for use as a PC monitor and for some gaming? Kinda feels like a mistake so far because it seems to have some ghosting with fast movement, and I feel like it could be more responsive, and that's at 1080p. Fortunately I have two months to return it if I change my mind. I might be a bit spoiled from a good PC monitor I usually use that has like 10.5 ms input lag.
Yup. I already settled on ISF Expert for HDR gaming, but I'm stuck using it because of how Game mode is too. I only found out about it because of the recent free weekend for Overwatch. I wanted to lower my input lag, and lo and behold...
The best TV I ever owned was a plasma until I got myself an OLED honestly.

LG is managing to keep a premium price since they are the only ones out there, but OLED prices gonna keep falling as more and more get out there. Scarcity is the name of the game, hence why the VT60 is so listed after, like the final kuros were before it
Definitely. With the prices in Norway, though, I can safely say that I got a good deal, and hopefully I can get a decent price when I decide to sell it.

Picked up a Samsung KS8000 for my Dad as an early Christmas present; got that baby calibrated and it looks AMAZING. From firsthand experience I can tell you this thing is a great buy. Also, the store displays/demos make it look terrible; DO NOT go by those.

You only need to enable it if you want to get 4k from Netflix, Blu-rays etc. For gaming, HDCP off makes no difference.
I see. I guess I'll leave it that way then. I'm getting a black screen whenever that thing is on.
For those LG OLED owners out there with PS4 Pro. I don't know what it is called but I'm seeing like a blurry aura on drake's body whenever I rotate the camera. What do I need to change to get this right? It's kinda annoying whenever I see it.
Do you have any motion interpolation set? maybe post all you display your settings. I don't have the LG, but I am somewhat familiar.

Prices for OLED will always remain high, because of the comparably poor yield return. Not enough good ones get through the manufacturing process to make the price more consumer friendly. This is unlikely to change for a while, considering how LG are trying to push the tech even more for the next gen.

the temporal anti aliasing causes some ghosting in that game as well, which will show up on all sets. have you played it on another tv?

Yeah, B6 to be exact. I downloaded two updates yesterday. The last one was to detect the hdr 2160p rgb.
Standard Is the go-to HDR mode.

the ghosting will happen on all TVs, its a side effect of the anti aliasing method they are using. i played it on a samsung 1080p set and it was there
so it's tough to say if what you are seeing is specific to your TV, or just the AA that they are using. if it's the latter, it wouldn't matter what TV you play it on, it's always going to be there

yeah, the same will probably not happen with OLED. LG has every intention of making this tech mainstream. Fully expect to see <$1000 OLEDs in two years, maybe sooner.
Still they will likely justify higher prices through differentiating product lines, like the upcoming Wallpaper OLED.
THANKS! The blurry that I mentioned was gone when I followed your HDR settings. I guess it might be the TruMotion (clear) I used. Or setting the sharpness to 10.
I have a C6. Curve is super subtle and it's a complete non-issue. Don't let that stop you.
I was actually surprised how subtle the curve was after looking at a curved Samsung set when I was still shopping around.

Hey guys, don't know much about TV brands and was wondering what to go with. I'm looking for a 1080p tv with low input lag, something tailored to games. (don't care for 4K as I don't have or plan on having 4K content right now). Probably something at 50 or 55 inches. Any help would be appreciated.

You can just get a 1080 LG OLED.
Really outside of that most 1080p TVs are cheap bottom of the barrel sets now. Virtually everything even half good is a 4K smart TV now a days.
Ended up passing on a TV this Black Friday. The space constraint is what stopped me, if I had room for a bigger tv I would have tried to jump on that Samsung employee program for a ks8000. I may just wait to see what is introduced during CES in the 40 inch range. Hopefully something good comes out if not will just wait for the x800d or the ku6300 to drop further in price.
They do suffer from image retention but it's not permanent.

Picked up an Xbox one S mainly for the 4K blu ray support, selling off my OG and jumping on the low prices this holiday. Mad Max will be the first non streaming, UHD HDR title I watch on the B6. Maybe Pacific Rim next if it stops costing 30-40$.

I'll echo this sentiment. I just set my C6 up last night and I barely notice the curve while watching content. Awesome TV and I haven't even finished adjusting it fully to my liking yet!
That's good to know. Was afraid it would be distracting. Will see it again on display before making a final decision.
What size is your tv? 55"? 65"?
