Play-Asia Now Adds "Import Duty" for U.S Customers Ordering Things (Around ~30%)

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

US Tariffs and Regulations:
Ahead of the United States de minimis and tariff changes effective August 29, 2025, we would like to provide clarification to our customers regarding Playasia and our import services.

No disruption of services:
All Playasia shipping services will remain operational and function without any hindrance to our customers. Packages destined for the United States will be shipped as planned. This will remain unchanged once regulations are in place.

Existing orders covered by Playasia:
All existing orders placed before August 29, 2025, will not be subject to additional fees upon receipt of the package, even if the order ships after this date. Any unforeseen tariff duties or fees that would arise for these packages to the United States will be covered by Playasia prior to shipment.

Collecting duty and tariffs:
To comply with new regulations all Playasia shipping methods to the United States starting August 28, 2025 will have duties and fees paid by the customer at the time of checkout. This will ensure that no matter how your order is shipped, there will be no surprise fees when receiving your order.

Please note that all orders shipped via Economy will have the duties and fees consolidated into the shipping cost displayed at checkout.

Anything before today will be honored without the import duty.

That's going to cost them lots of money. And on top of that they'll lose most of their us customers with these changes.

Guess they'll be losing out on tons of money from the lack of purchases.
US isnt their only customer. and some people don't care and just throw money if they want something. especially if things that can be found no where but that east part of the world.

They will also lose business too of course. but for the most part they will be fine. its people in the US that are affected by this more than anyone honestly.

The fuck? You expect them to pay the tariffs on your behalf? Some of you over there need to do some reading on what a tariff actually is.......
I am over here and I think some believed the Orange One when he said the other countries are paying the tariffs. 🤦‍♂️🤡🤡

It's not just the tariff btw, de minimus exemption is gone too. Most of Europe and Asia won't even ship through post anymore, have to use courier service like DHL.

I am guessing Amazon Japan will jack up prices as well. But I wonder about VGP now too.

Anyways, this sucks but I feel so liberated. ☹️

having china manufacture everything is going super great
great plan, world
Do you think that we are going to manufacture consumer electronics (at least on the lower end), video game disks / packages, cell phones and so on in US?

Tariffs make sense to juice up certain industries. Blanket tariffs will result in higher cost to US consumers, higher inflation, lower GDP and more "fun" stuff like that.

But hey, we got the "BBB" passed so the top 1% can get even richer and tariff revenue can paper over at least some gaps, so it's a WIN, let's give ourselves a 🏆.

Yeah Auspost pulled the plug the other day, they handled a lot of transhipment to the US from our region I believe. Scrambling to set up some sort of system to handle taking the tariff from US buyers before on-shipping I think.

On US side there is no solid system to process tariffs on billions of packages coming in. It's going to be sheer madness for a while.

They can either eat the tariff or lose customers. Either way they're the one getting fucked.
Depends how big a market the US is for them I guess. But the general consensus outside of your bubble is that your country now carries significant sovereign risk and decoupling or diversifying is a very good idea. End result will be net negative to consumers in the US and reduced living standards. So the true answer is, if they are the ones getting fucked, they sure aren't the only ones.

It is what it is. I guess they'll find out how important those resin statues really are to the market.
You do understand that these fairly small businesses can't possibly take new tariffs on the chin, right?

Yes, they will lose a lot of the customer base, but US customers will lose out even more. It's not just the stupid figurines, it's going to be most things that used to be shipped for free under $800.

Edit: and of course pretty much everything coming from rest of the world will get hit by 15% to 35-40% tariff so prices will go up on a lot of things.
