I listen to sacred symbols almost every week and i do like the chemistry between colin and Chris. I personally cannot stand Greg as a host on kinda funny. I think hes juvenile, loud, obnoxious and has terrible taste in games. The fact Kinda funny would drop colin because of an out rage mob of sjw's and blue haireds for colins "joke" from back in the day was enough for me.

No one else find it funny that when Cerny did the Wired interview without giving any real specs Xbox insiders came from out of nowhere just to say that Anaconda was going to be more powerful but after someone leaked that PS5 devkits are close to 13TFLOPS we haven't heard anything else from them?

I'll be getting both . I love god of was and uncharted but also live gears and halo. Obsidian and ninja theory are 2 of my favorites as well but after playing Spider-Man this weekend for my first time insomniac is getting up there too. I'm pretty sure Sony will announce they bought insomnia at ps5 reveal

What are you basing this assumption on? Insomniac are famous for holding on to their independence, and currently hold a position of power when negotiating projects for both Playstation and Xbox.

yes it was. The og Xbox had Halo as a standout exclusive and that was about it. 360 had better games early on but as the generation progressed, their output didn't really evolve like Sony's did and instead we just got underwhelming sequels like Halo 4 and way too many Gears of war games

But don't forget that Sony already has the services and streaming. It's been up and running for over 5 years and they currently have more than half the market for gaming subscription services.

If they are dead even then the war will shift to exclusives. Of course PS5 will win cause Xbox games are on PC, and every PlayStation owner also has an I9 and a 2080 ti in their beast PC.
 
I said this last time around and my only console this gen was a PS4 (increasingly more PC centric)

Power only matters in regards to price with the competition. I know some people need the best hardware but I think for many people, power was a point when the PS4 was also $100 cheaper. It was a no brainer back in 2014. Cheaper and more powerful? Okay. Sold.

The games and the ecosystem matter a lot more than power alone when price is equal and power in question is marginal or even moderately different.

With that all said, the smartest thing Sony announced was backwards compat with the PS4 for the PS5. I'll probably pick it up to keep my games moving forward.

SNES & Sega Genesis was pretty much equal & that didn't stop the console war & PS5 & Xbox Next being equal isn't going to stop it either.


My hope would be for them to be unique & make it worth buying both

This is a short sighted response. Because Microsoft is also focusing on Xcloud, doesn't mean they can make a powerful console as well. These are very different teams working on both technologies.

Gamers need to get out of and/or method of thinking. Its also/in conjuction with.

Irrelevant. Sony didn't have to release a refresh first and they didn't have to settle if they didn't want to. They released the console they wanted to release, when they wanted to release it. Not on Microsoft because they wanted to go further.
 
If the low end version of the next gen Xbox has been canceled, then I can only see both consoles being released at 399 or 499. If Xbox launches at 499 and the PS5 at 399, then it's going to be bad for MS.

This is why I think both consoles will have similar specs if both companies release one console in 2020.
 
Whichever console is more powerful, it will matter less than this gen. The whole 720p vs 900p, 900p vs 1080p of this gen was a genuine difference, but with next gen targeting 4k, and hitting it most of the time i bet, any slight difference in resolution will certainly be much harder to see on a 4k screen.

Service one = 50 ms. Service two = 55 ms.

Gamers, this is Leadbetter and gang. I know you gamers want us to do a test between our shady as fuck pirated games we sell vs. legit software, but we aren't going to compare them, so stop asking. Our legal team always told us not to bring it up.

Instead, we just a did a huge test across 10,000 frames of gameplay across two streaming services. Service one has a 5 ms betterment in 800 frames of a 10,000 frame test. The other 9,200 frames were the same input lag.

Service one is HUMONGOUSLY better.

I disagree.

Why would Microsoft spend an extra X00 million dollars just to have the most powerful console, if a console reaches the power level they require without the need to spend extra?

In the boardroom, they will have laid out their requirements, what the console needs to do, the possibility or milestones of mid-gen refreshes. They will have then set a budget and an overspend. The overspend will not be about making a console more powerful or going above and beyond their internal requirements.

Microsoft aren't powering Kinect, they aren't going for a 10 year gen on one console and they don't need the brute force to power VR. If VR comes, they will adjust accordingly.

Sony, on the other hand, will have set requirements to power PSVR2 to the highest spec and therefor need as much power as they can.

It's not a fanboy argument of Sony is 4 the gamorz. Or Microsoft don't care about power. Each company has pretty publically acknowledge the direction they wish to go in.

And even then, it can vary with how the wind blows.

If this comes into fruition from DF, I will tune them out completely. I know they need to survive, and if streaming does have any sort of relevance based on convenience from a swath of people, thus they feel the need to cover it... I won't pay no mind There are too many variables based on one's own local isolated internal network setup, their ISP, the data center locations to them, weather, load (time of day), etc., it is literally an inconsistent reading or analysis 24/7 compared to the variables of the world.

Stick with local native. I weep for the streaming wars. FFS.

Streaming is literally an option, you don't have to use it. You can still play the old way, by installing the full game locally. Why so much wailing and gnashing of teeth?

The assumption is that as years go by, buying games the traditional way will die off, and only streaming services will be around. And will involve monthly sub fees.

You never know. Just like Netflix and tv/movie streaming maybe gaming will go full swing into game streaming.

It all comes down to what people want.

PC gamers switched to digital downloads instead of hardboxed gaming. When was the last time PC gamers complained about lack of box and disc? Never. So that's why PC gaming is all digital. PC gamers didn't support boxed copies anymore.

Tons of people stream movies. If people don't want to buy DVDs and BR discs at $20 each (which just about every half decent budget movie still sells on Amazon) and want to go full streaming, that's the trend.

Video game streaming services are at it's infacy. If gamers love it that much, it goes to show all the anti-streaming posts aren't so influencial after all. No different than gamers going apeshit at digital downloads. Years back people hated it. Now it seems tons of people do it (even me who was a disc supporter).

If game streaming is too costly and sucks with shitty laggy gameplay, gamers will balk and prefer full digital downloads and discs. And if the streaming service allows gamers to download a local copy (no more lag), but the value isn't there, then gamers will balk again, then these streaming services will stagnate or disappear.

It all comes down to how much gamers embrace it.

It's like microtrans. How can it be that 99% of gamers on forums say microtrans are a poison to gaming, yet every publisher brags about record digital DLC fees? Well, someone is lying. And it's not the publisher lying about revenue. That got the money to prove it.

There's tons of anti-microtrans people on forums. So where's all the microtrans supporters saying they love buying weapon skins and hats for $2 each?

I've been reading a lot on the development of FF7 (the original) and interviews of the staff say the primary reason they choose Sony was because the PS1 was more powerful, specifically for raw poly output. They had specific benchmarks that the PS1 whipped the N64 at, they even made a trip to Nintendo to try getting more out of the system via working with Nintendo engineers and couldn't. They used the disk media excuse as the public reason to save feelings with Nintendo.

We spent a few days, I remember, optimizing my code, to try to get a few more polygons out, but it didn't really make much of a difference. He just comes in. "OK so, how was it?" And I gave a few figures when asked, but Narita-san was the main person who was talking. And he was essentially saying, "We're just not getting the performance. We're nowhere near what we did during the Siggraph demo." Miyamoto-san just silently acknowledged that, and I didn't hear anything from them until the point when Sakaguchi-san called [the office] together and said, "We're not doing the 64 anymore." So yeah. I guess in a sense, I kind of provided the objective data to say that the 64 wasn't suitable for the next-gen Final Fantasy.

I thought they chose the ps1 because it was easier to code for and FF7 wasn't gonna fit on a cartridge vs multiple discs.

Xbox One X never had it's moment in the sun & before it could get a die shrink & reach mass market prices PS5 & Xbox Scarlet is already casting a shadow over it.

why would Sony wait until 2017 to release a mid cycle console & never really get a chance to profit off of it?



MS pretty much made a new console but it probably isn't going to sell over 15 million units when it's all said & done .
 
I mean, do we need more powerful hardware? I feel like the difference in game quality between PlayStation 3 release titles and games that were released at the end of the console's cycle speaks for itself. Think back to how much more advanced Uncharted 3 felt compared to the first Uncharted. Do we really need a better console right now?
