PlayStation 5 Pro Could Be the Best Place to Play Multiplatform Games With Bad PC Ports; There Will Be No Reason to Use FSR Over PSSR

Well, this thread has run its course. Like damn, it kinda feels like 2020 all over again, PS5 is going to lead to the end of high-end PC gaming because it is way more powerful than the far majority of hardware on Steam and PC gamers will flock in droves to the PS5 (spoiler alert: it did not). Even the same tired arguments about how many gamers own a 3090, 90% of the Steam hardware is weaker than a PS5! Just replace PS5 with the Pro and it's the exact same tired take. Meanwhile, Steam growth has exceeded basically everything since 2020.

Between that and the silly PCMR takes (it's possible to enjoy console gaming over PC gaming for a wide variety of reasons, shouting at people that they are wrong because of reasons x through y doesn't help anyone) and I'm not sure what is worse.

Just a reminder....

This thread was started by a comment from Alex of Digital Foundry stating this.

People are (for the most part) just discussing the basis of his comments and stating their arguments for or against.

No need to come into this thread (in particular) and gaslight people about the very foundation of this fucking thread.

Or just don't play a game that is only fixed by mods. There are plenty of other games out there.
The point of playing on PC is to have choice in the way you play your games.
The important point is that some issues can be fixed by talented people and that allows PC gamers to play whatever they want in the best way ever.

Some people care, some don't and that's okay but it is a pretty significant advantage when taken into account.

Stutter issues, especially traversal stutters which is common is a game issue, not a plattform issue and appears on all plattforms, for example Silent Hill 2 Remake on PS5 with has major stutter issues.

I haven't had any major stutters on PS5 — certainly nothing worse than what I had on PC (which, at times, were full on pauses and stops).

PS4 Pro turned out to be 13% of PS4 owners, and it had a lot more to offer than PS5 Pro. The idea that PS5 Pro is going to be a big success in general, let alone that it puts pressure on PC in some way is wild cope man.
Ey,
PS5 Pro has AI upscaling, the PS4 pro was just a power bump.

It also has improved dedicated RT hardware.

Both of these additions in isolation provide a massive uptick and offload a bunch of tasks from the base hardware.

Why spend 2k on a PC when you can get a gaming dedicated box with a far better UI for less than half the price? cos you can play excel and word?

Please Make it make sense.

So, one extra feature? 🧩

The Pro also uses an AI upscaler, which didn't exist with the PS4 Pro. I'd say that cancels things out.
you can say whatever you want. ps5 pro isn't needed. ps4 pro made a big difference if you bought a TV after 2016. ps5 pro doesn't solve any problems and is still too underpowered to deliver RT. 400 vs 700

At this point, I’ll assume people who do that are trolling. You don’t understand the benefits of a PC, but you perfectly understand the benefits of a console and seriously ask someone about them?

I can say what I want, as you have, and if the Pro is not needed, vote with your wallet, as I have done while I wait for Nov 7. :)

Yeah buddy you got me I will sell my 3k PC and 2k simulation rig so I can play the latest "AAA" trash on a plastic box.

I will sell my PC that I carefully hand picked every part of it and built it myself. I will quit my milsim group, my DCS squadron, give up my iRacing career and leave all my discord groups and friends so I can play the next Sony DEI hit while sipping mountain dew.

You simply don't understand how vast and engaging the PC ecosystem is. There is a reason Sony games on PC get relatively poor sales.

PS4 Pro offered checkerboard rendering which was ahead of anything in the PC space at the time, it took 4 years before PC started offering better upscaling in the form of DLSS 2. All for a mere $399.

PS5 had GPU performance at launch that was equal to $500-$700 GPUs. RT was still incredibly niche and DLSS 2 had just kicked off with only a handful of games. Price was once again a mere $399.

Despite all of the above, Steam is now 3 times as large as it was back in 2016.

Now we have the Pro. Upscaling that PC already has or slightly exceeds, RT that is still behind Nvidia with it now being way prevalent, and GPU power that is roughly in the same ballpark vs PC where the PS5 was 4 years ago. Except the price is now $699 and even higher in Europe.

Why is anyone expecting the Pro to do anything to PC players is beyond me. PC gaming has a huge following for a reason, and it’s got nothing to do with Excel. The advantages of PC gaming and why people are drawn to it have been discussed over and over again. It is not for everyone, but it is for the hundreds of millions that enjoy it.

Same reasons as always. And a massive LOL at "better UI".
You think Windows is a good UI?
At this point, I’ll assume people who do that are trolling. You don’t understand the benefits of a PC, but you perfectly understand the benefits of a console and seriously ask someone about them?
Its a rhetorical question designed ingeniously to highlight the absurdity of the argument that someone would want a dedicated gaming device to do "other things".

Guess what my toaster can also burn documents, but I didnt buy it for that did I?

Any UI that I can navigate with a mouse instead of a retarded Dpad/analog stick is betters. Plus the keyboard for typing when I need. Plus Steam Big Picture and alternatives are options. -_-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Your sentiment over your gaming machine is irrelevant. The thread is about advantages of playing in one machine over other. Almost all games have several advantages on PC over what the Pro will give. Fact.
Consoles also have major advantages over PCs and this isn’t Sophie’s choice. You can easily get the vast majority of benefits of PC without spending yourself into missing out on the benefits of consoles.

Cool. All of them I see as insignificant/don't see as an advantage/don't use, other than some exclusives.

It's not a PC if you don't use it for excel. Duh.

Ehhh, even pc on par with pro or worse has shit ton of things that consoles doesn't offer. It was discussed millions of times. And this is all about gaming, not word or office...

PS4 pro power bump was over 100% when it comes to GPU power, it was bigger jump than PS5 pro is (45%) and for the same price as launch unit!

They even didn't remove features (disc drive), lol.

I'd say 4K and better VR performance are easier advantages to market to the masses along with a friendlier price point.
VR was not a feature of the Pro. It still required additional hardware. 4K was, and like the PS5 Pro, it was an improvement of image quality, only mass market. It was priced accordingly.

So, the point stands that there wasn't some huge featureset that accompanied the PS4 Pro in comparison to the PS5 Pro.

You continue to make disingenuous arguments.

Fire up Wukong on PC? You mean specifically an Nvidia RTX PC, because you're not going to have DLSS with a non nvidia non RTX card

Frame gen? That requires RTX 40 series narrowing it down even more.

Even among these users, PS5 Pro is going to overperform the majority, which are using 4060 level cards.

Your idea that PC = nvidia rtx is simply a lie.

Are you that dense? The point I was driving home is that you build a PC to customize your experience to your liking.

And do you even know what the fuck the word disingenuous means because it’s clearly far above what your little brain can comprehend. You’re the one who accused me of saying a bunch of things I never even claimed and you act like a dishonest fanboy yet have the nerve to call anyone disingenuous.

Grab a dictionary and learn what fallacies are and stop being a freakin’ hypocrite.

I don't think anyone is claiming that PC doesn't have unique advantages but so do consoles. I think what doesn't add up is claiming PC is this larger monolith than it is or that it is a larger market than it is.

Ignoring PSSR and better ray tracing is quite convenient.

A disc drive we know most aren't using by default...
