Sony would have been better off by not doing a pro model at all. Forget the r&d costs, manufacturing, shipping, marketing, etc. and just look at all the negative PR they're getting. Back-to-back fails with this and Concord.

Still selling a four year old console at a loss when it has a higher price tag than when it launched ...? It used to be that consoles would get substantially cheaper to make the longer they were on the market.

With the costs remaining the same Sony aren't going to magically cut the standard PS5 to $300 when releasing the Pro. Unfortunately it was always going to be priced stacked, Standard PS5 remains around $500, this Pro around $700. I just don't get the outrage. PS5 standard has remained expensive like everything else.
Adding a disc drive puts the cost up more, they probably have data that the type of buyer isn't buying used games or looking for deals at retailers and it's about 80% digital, they probably need a 2tb drive which is what they went for. Seems people are being unrealistic given the current PS5 price.
PS5 at launch were selling for more, there's enough out there to buy this, which is aimed at the 15-20%.
Normally prices on consoles go down yet we're not seeing this in a post covid inflation period. I don't have a PS5 due to it remaining at a high price, no interest in a $700 one. I've stuck to my GTX 1080 and just laughed at GPU prices and the current PS5 price. The BOM price on consoles means there not much room to maneuver.

If the reception is overly negative then either lower the price or include the disc drive. I'm assuming its too late to bundle in the disc drive at this point, so a price drop of $100 might chill some people out. I'm buying regardless.

Because the $600 Series X is a terrible deal too. The 1 TB Series X has been available for $400 many times in the last year. Comparing one overpriced console to another overpriced console isn't the way...

I was looking forward to it. You have read my posts in the other thread for months. I even would’ve paid $700 for a disc version. I would’ve bitched about it but still bought it. Not including disc drive is frankly insulting and charging $80 for it basically makes this a $800 console. Not showing any new games for it after skipping e3 is also completely out of touch. It shows that Sony is exactly everything i have been warning you all about, and I’m glad more and more people are starting to see how far this company has fallen.

The $500 PS5 is perfectly fine for most. This is for enthusiasts who want higher graphics and performance. Those people only have two options: buy a PS5 Pro for $700 or build a gaming PC for $1500-$2,000.

If the PS5 had nearly the same amount of fantastic exclusives (not available on PC) as the PS4 did when the PS4 pro was released (and those games really benefitted from the upgrade), maybe I would think about it.

Well, let's ignore it being the most expensive PlayStation console ever made. Let's also add in the disc drive and stand, so it's at least actually comparable, and now you have an USD$199.00 price difference to the most expensive competitor SKU, and a USD$299.00 price difference to the base console. And what does that USD$300 difference buy you? A curated list of PS4 games with higher frame rates, it seems. In terms of reveals, marketing, and value propositions, this is one of the worst in recent times. The PS4 Pro made its case pretty well. The PS5 Pro? Not so much.

About price.. eh, if this thing is really going to give me Quality modes at 60fps I'd gladily pay what they ask. Sucks about the disc drive, no doubt.
Well the push for digital is clear, and under this lens a 2TB obviously makes more sense than an included disc drive.
It sucks for me as I'm a 100% physical dude, but makes sense unfortunately (thanks to all you digital fuckers).

Sony made a limited number of units for the Portal, since they weren’t sure of the market response.
They’ll have much bigger expectations for the PS5 Pro. The volume will be there.
Chance of this being ‘backordered for months’ is vanishingly slim. This isn’t 2020. They’ve most certainly secured the chips they need.
I’ll be preordering and hopefully getting mine by Nov 7th, but it’s very likely the smart play for some would be to expect a Black Friday bundle with a game by late November, similar to the PS5 Slim last year

The value proposition is nowhere near good enough for that price. Minimal upgrades, zero games that require it to run... its a largely pointless piece of kit, given where we are in the generation.
No one would be complaining if it provided a major boost to the gaming experience.

Have I missed something? Are likes purchases now? I doubt that the thing will sell very much at that price. It's not very easy to find people who are still enthusiastic after the announcement. 900 Euro with drive and stand here. I'm still looking for people from my bubble who are planning to buy a Pro. So far I've only read no thanks.

You have to compare that with 2017-2020 when both consoles were out. Don't know the numbers, but should be >25%. I would be surprised if the PS5 Pro hits 10%.

It's on the expensive side, yes, but nowhere near 'The value proposition is nowhere near good enough for that price'. Hell, Rebirth in native res without shitty FSR is enough value proposition for me, honestly.
It never was near that number. As entrhusiast forum we're kinda skewed and we're buying better kits sooner than later, but broad consumer was more than happy with his base PS4 slim and a lot of people are still happy with it.
