PlayStation 5 Pro Unboxed, 16.7 TFLOPs GPU Compute Confirmed

Possibly they could have dropped the 32-bit instructions of VOPD? Similarly to how they use the Mendocino variant of Zen2 with the lower performance FPU to save a couple mm² of die space. They haven't really resulted in much in the PC space in terms of performance in either gaming or compute.

We know they have them for lower precision modes and list them there in reveal, e.g. 67TF FP16 and 300 TOPs (likely sparse int8) so it'd be pretty weird not to do the same with the FP32 number.

The Mendocino variant Zen2 is only 4 cores 8 threads, it's a laptop APU, PS5 and Series X use Custom Zen 2 APU's.

dual issue has never shown to have any tangible benefits for games.
which Sony also clearly thinks, which is why they officially list it without dual issue

I remember an interview by AMD, where they claimed the best they managed to get out of VOPD, was 6% extra performance. And it was on a few games.
So it's pretty much useless. AMD has to, either remove this feature from RDNA4, or rework it to be more impactful. Otherwise, it's just wasting silicon.

You are talking with much assurance, why both AMD and Sony developed/choosed to include such a hardware feature if it can't be of any meaningful help for performance then, for the sake of it?

He's such a cringetard.

Don't lie to yourself 😂😂 Of course that TF matters in the console war… A lot. And that's the fuel of this site.

TFLOPs are just one metric, among several, to discuss a console performance.
And even that has to be taken into consideration, that performance per TFLOP is only comparable inside the same generation and architecture of a GPU.
But even this has caveats. For example, RDNA3, has different cache sizes, dependent on the SKU. And in higher SKUs the cache is on a separate chiplet.

It is Sony fault. Have you unbox a ps5 box before? They using the thinnest of paper wrap, it tightly holds on to the main cardboard, every edges are sharp.
You cannot open it the regular way, it bleeds my dainty fingers. Rich got the right way.

It's still in RDNA4.

So no one actually thinks Pro has 3x the GPU Power vs. Standard. Give users here a better perspective.

It was known from day 1 of the first leak

AMD simply changed the way they calculate TFLOPS with RDNA 3 and beyond...

If people are ignorant, and don't even bother to know this, then it's their problem....

But let's play dumb and say PS5 Pro was expected to have 3x the teraflops of the base model...

LOL

PS5 Pro has 16.7TF FP32 in single issue mode like PS5 or XSX or any GPU before RDNA3.

Dual issue FP32 doesn't work in games

FP16 is a half precision, every GPU has it. You can't make a game on it.

FP32 teraflops alone means nothing, GPUs also have ROPs, TMUs, schedulers, memory subsystem, different architectures.

End of story

Console users have no clue about anything

We will see if "Dual issue doesn't work in games" statement ages gracefully in years to come for PS5 PRO. Waiting development insights eagerly.

Sony has to be careful not to throw around the 33.5 TF number around, otherwise people would think the PS5 Pro is 3x the power of the original. Thay why they are omitting it.

It's about the same height as the regular PS5. That means it should fit just fine under my TV! This is the best news so far.
