Pokemon sequel is under development for DS

Hehe I agree with what you're saying. Pokemon is nintendo's baby though. I doubt they will ever let them change anything substantial. And fans are more than willing to eat anything with Pokemon in the title up so, I don't see them taking any big risks with this new one, specially now that its been confirmed for the DS and not 3DS.

Has Gamefreak ever given any reason why they don't make EVs/IVs a clear and present game feature?
I know, and it's really quite pitiful. A sad day it will be indeed when all developers follow that guideline.

Dear fucking lord.
Chill out, Overreaction Jackson. There's no need to start swearing at me. I'm not the one releasing the same game every two years and I'm not the one making you buy it every two years.

Actually, you'll be smiling, and I'll be laughing that you got suckered into yet another non-sequel. :D

If i could pick one thing to change in the game formula:

More persistant trainers like your rival and your friend. Have a group of like 10 trainers who have a believable group of pokemon (not 99% percent of the NPCs you encounter who only have like two slowpokes, 6 pidgeys or a abra and a kadabra) who you frequently encounter and grow with you. Give them a little backstory and character.

Think something like that Ritchy guy from the first few seasons of the pokemon anime and offcourse Gary and the other rivals.

YES.

Why do so many trainers only have 2 or 3 pokemon? And why would anyone have 5 magicarps and a gyrados?

Yes, I understand that swimmers will have lots of water pokemon, but why cant other people have a real team?

And I do want more traveling trainers, such as your rival or the TV people.

That and just having an icon for Weather instead of informing the player after every turn.

Yes, I hate the repetitive text. It makes traveling through the desert hell.
"A sandstorm is raging.
Your pokemon is hurt by sandstorm"

Balance, comedy. I do want more trainers with real teams though, but not on the main path of the quest. Give me Battle Frontier-esque places, tone down the difficulty, put them in a few towns. Have them as an alternative to Gym Leaders (still including Gyms in the main quest, mind you) and give us more rivals to fight over the main quest.

Well, if nothing else, I think the Pokemon Special manga had the right idea: the various "main characters" (PokeDex holders) all have something different about them, with regards to their overall "role" in the world. Red was the Fighter, Green (his Rival, known as "Blue", in the Viz dub) was the Trainer, Gold was the breeder, Ruby for contests, etc.

Not all of them were interested in the "Champion" route like Red. But that just made them more interesting, in my eyes. I wouldn't mind it at all if a future PKMN game gave more characters that echoed that type of aspect. You could have respective "rivals" in the various "modes" of the game. Frankly, I'm surprised there wasn't just such a rival for those sports-based minigames in HG/SS... :lol

Another wish? ...Better animations, perhaps? C'mon, GameFreak. If you're not going to change much else fundamentally about this series, maybe you could at least make the special attack anims look better. :lol

I'm really sorry for going off-topic here for a bit.
Before going for the games (the last one I played were Red for Gameboy) I got to catch up, so I would like to know how many seasons of the cartoon show are there? 9?

EDIT: 12, soon 13 with a little Wiki-search.

I really think this game would have to be for 3DS. For one, there would be no way to transfer Pokemon into D/P/Pt and HG/SS due to them either being completely new or having moves that aren't in those games. Also, the 3DS being backwards compatible makes me think there will be a Pal Park feature where we can bring our DS Pokemon over into Gen V. Having three different series on the DS with no way to transfer the bulk of your Pokemon between them easily sounds a bit crazy.

I really wonder what new features Nintendo will add to the next generation. They really went above and beyond in Gen IV and gave fans pretty much everything they wanted. There are many issues I'd like to see resolved, but most of these are just tweaks, so I wonder if Nintendo will do anything big and shocking with the next gen.

they can sidestep the whole pal park and make a Pokemon Ranch for the 3DS/DSi. this would save a whole lot of hassle. just insert your old games, the game detects pokeranch (disguise it as another ds or some shit) and allow it to be traded to the system memory. then insert Gen V, and extract from the system memory to your box.

argh, I just want a free roaming world. basically, skin Zelda OOT or even better Wind Waker (use that graphical style for the game), and just make it pokemon. free roaming, actually seeing pokemon in the wild, full 3d camera. PLEASE.
I just imagained flying but your on a 3D plane looking at what the pokemon is looking at (/ its head) and your flying and you can go through montain ranges and change your route etc. That would be awesome.

And people saying Pokemon is sacrad bla bla bla, they already ruined Pokemon in the later games, SS and HG remain a bit of the charm but still- who cares anymore, let them run with wild ideas.

I really enjoyed Ranger a bit- they should take some ideas from it and put it into Gen V.

The problem with that IMO is that it would take away focus from the battling, which is the best part of the series.

also I personally think that Pokemon has only gotten better with each game and that the originals are the worst in the series.

What's ruined about Pokemon?

I like Gen3 too. I think those who dislike it are a very vocal minority.

The detractors say "they took AWAY features from the game!"

But then there's this from the very Bulbapedia article Jeels linked to:
Through its incompatibility with Generation I and Generation II, Generation III enhanced the Pokémon world the most yet, bringing about the most changes to the world of Pokémon. The advances include:

I think Gen 3 took a lot of steps back gameplay-wise (losing the day/night cycle what), but I hold nothing against the designs. Aside from the total lack of good fire Pokemon.

But it was the game that really got me in to the series and I put like 300 hours in to it.

Yeah I don't know of anything that's ruined Pokémon. It's actually gotten better with each iteration overall...

It's just not better enough. It's not different enough. I'm sure had I gone straight from Red/Blue to Diamond/Pearl (or even the new Gold/Silver remakes), it would've been an incredibly enlightening experience, but from one game to its direct sequel is just not enough.

The absolute biggest problem with the game, though, is the structure, from beginning to end. The same pattern. Every time. Fuck that.

school :( sucks how much work I have considering we have a GAF server now

Sorry for the off-topic, but there is a GAF TF2 server? Can someone point in the direction of where I can find the server address? I tried searching through google, but only came across a thread from 2008 talking about an unofficial server.

Don't you guys remember how poorly FF7 did sales-wise after FF6?! Don't change a series radically unless you want bad sales!

Bad analogy considering FFVII is very similar to FFVI in everything except the 3D graphics.

Another server I'd recommend: 66.150.164.55:27015

Gen 3 added so much awesome stuff but the removal of day/night was pretty baffling. I do wish there were more avenues to take that didn't involve the whole gym battle thing. My ultimate wetdream would be pokemon meets morrowind. I want to join different guilds like the rangers, breeders, etc. until I want to do the main quest.

*Looks at Gen III list of improvements*

Wow, I never really looked at it that way. Consider me no longer part of that minority who thought it didn't do much.

But still, no day/night? =/

I had always wondered about this, but upon reflection it makes sense. In the game's universe, the player is supposed to be a Pokemon trainer prodigy. The reason most trainers have such boring teams is because that's the best they can do as your "average" trainer.

The reason the gym leaders have such boring teams is because they intentionally hold back.

Although given that, I do agree with the idea that there should be more persistent "good" trainers to fight besides the rival/gym leaders

Yeah. Most people don't even have pokedexes and by and large most don't get starters at age ten.

Also, very few of them are actual trainers. They're people with Pokemon who just like to battle. Like a guy with a dog who is arranging playdates with other dogs.

Is Micheal Vick arranging these playdates?

On that note, who the hell is financing the Pokemon league

The Pokecenters alone would be a huge drain of resources.
I mean, you're feeding thousands, if not millions, of people for free, basically, and healing Pokemon.
My theory is that the taxes in that world are astronomical.

"Starter pokemon" are extremely powerful, and in every game its almost always chance that your trainer is lucky enough to get one.

Which in turn causes people to rely on Pokemon for everyday stuff, like how Ash fixes every town he comes to

And then those people become trainers and lose money to the Pokemon league

Brilliant!

It's the ultimate Pyramid Scheme...

My hopes for new game :
EVERY non legendary from each region/gen available in some way in addition to 150 or so new pokemon.

Bring back the VS Seeker
NO repetitive phone calls about Joey's god damned ratatta.
One of each message I can live with, same message over and over NO.

Pokewalker - I think it is brilliant and alot of fun.

WPA support

Better sound effects (though i do not want to hear "Pika Pika" over and over either.

They should bring back the ability to catch all (most) Pokemon in the game.

Well, maybe not in the game itself, but among the 3 gen 5 games, I want to be able to catch all of them. It's not even hard - all they need to do is stick a couple into swarms, a couple there and a couple there and it's over.

Uhh, you already can in gen 4...

Yeah, across 5 games (you still need DP for Glameow and Stunky).

And that's fine, don't get me wrong, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't ask for it on gen 5. For all you know Game Freak might be going right now "but they can already catch all of them in gen 4 so we don't need to do it again!!!!".

They should also throw a huge variety of pokemon at you from the very beginning of the game. I'm tired of starting with Pidgeys, Rattatas and Geodudes (or the other Gen equivalents). Gimme a huge selection! Totally different monsters coming out at night on the very first route! Swarms and all that stuff right from the get go. Plzzzz.

Dude, there'd only be about 600 or so available Pokemon in that game. There's not enough mons for that to work. Somehow. I think.

I'd personally like to see a way to transfer easily between your own games (ie. i don't want to have to go and get my friend's ds to transfer pearl pokemon to my diamond cartridge).. is that too much?

I'm guessing they don't want to confuse new players.

Same with the weather stuff from before by the way, shortening weather for an icon and things like that will only confuse first timers. For Pokemon to lose those first timers every gen means for Pokemon to lose its popularity.

Yeah, I mean I figured that the way they do it now is mainly for the benefit of "first timers" but I mean... the options should be there. And I think it is totally possible.
